Fir needles soften the trail to the stage, and the air smells of cedar, river water and somebody's camp coffee.
The bass arrives filtered through a hundred feet of forest. Moss climbs the speaker scaffolding. Somewhere behind the trees, the river keeps its own steady rhythm.
Pacific Northwest music festivals have a signature: warm, dry afternoons, then a cool blue hour that sends everyone back to camp for one more layer. Oregon brings barns and forest fairs, Washington a canyon-rim amphitheater and a mountain barter faire, and British Columbia two beloved bass festivals.
Our names are Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists who design layers for exactly these nights. Here are eight Northwest events, with 2027 status from each official site and an outfit note for every one.
What are the best music festivals in the Pacific Northwest?
Magus Fawn's shortlist of the best Pacific Northwest music festivals: Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge and Bumbershoot in Washington; the Oregon Country Fair and Pickathon in Oregon; and Shambhala and Bass Coast in British Columbia. For a cold-night classic, add Washington's Okanogan Family Barter Faire. Five already have official 2027 dates.
We checked each official site in October 2026; anything not yet announced reads TBA.

Canyon rim, forest fair, barter field: the Northwest lineup
In calendar order, with one past legend at the end.
1. Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge: Alice above the Columbia
The Alice in Wonderland-themed festival comes to the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, on June 25–27, 2027, according to the official festival site, with camping areas named Fox Den, Cheshire Cove and Queen's Ravine. The venue sits near the Columbia River, with views across the Columbia Gorge canyon.

Outfit note: a costume layer that keeps the theme going after dark. The Crystal Shroom Kingdom women's festival cloak ($250) raises a glowing teal crystal spire up the back, flanked by violet mushroom domes under gold arches, like the palace at the bottom of the rabbit hole. Micro-mink outer, fluffy faux-fur fleece lining in black or white, double front zipper and four pockets, unisex XS–5XL. George, reviewing a Madriax cloak in May 2023: "So comfortable you almost forgot how cool it looks!"

The same mushroom kingdom stars in our Alice story, Three Riddles Before Last Call, and our Beyond Wonderland outfits guide dresses the theme, and the SoCal edition at the NOS Events Center sits in our California festival guide. For the canyon's famous wind, read Six Weddings and a Windsock.
2. Oregon Country Fair: a daytime village under the big trees
The Oregon Country Fair calls itself "An Annual 3-Day Celebration of Art, Music, & Food." It runs July 9–11, 2027, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., near Veneta, 15 miles west of Eugene. Since 1969 it has wound trail loops of handmade booths through the forest, with costumed parades, stilt-walkers, and folk, world and vaudeville stages.

Outfit note: dress the whole family for a long walk in dappled shade. The Cosmic Knight kids' cotton sweatpants ($75) set a silver wheel medallion at the waist above slate-teal sacred geometry, a knight's compass for the smallest explorer on the trail. They're 100% cotton at 310 g/m², with an elastic drawstring waist and cuffed ankles, in S–3XL. Our fair story, Meet Me Under the Salmon, walks those loops with three siblings.
3. Bass Coast: an artist-owned valley weekend
Bass Coast returns to Merritt on July 9–12, 2027, and its official site says it is "celebrating its 19th year." Valley days reach 85–95°F and nights settle into the 50s°F. In 2014 it became the first festival to ban feathered headdresses, out of respect for the Indigenous nations nearby.

Outfit note: shade first, a hood later. The Liquid Cosmos bucket hat ($50) pours magenta, teal, red and gold into marbled swirls, like the Coldwater River catching a sunset. The full brim covers more of your face and neck than a cap, and it comes in XS, S/M and L/XL. Our Bass Coast outfits guide has the full heat-to-hood wardrobe.
4. Shambhala: the Kootenay farm that sells out
Shambhala's official site lists July 23–26, 2027, at Salmo River Ranch, and announces that tickets for 2027 are already sold out, with a waitlist. The Village stage anchors the bass, days hit 85–95°F, and the festival's help center tells guests to expect cold nights.

Outfit note: river gear by day, a real hoodie for the Village at night. The Mystic Eye Blue cotton pullover hoodie ($100) stacks two Flower of Life medallions down the back in cobalt and sky-blue linework, with an eye watching from the front neckline. It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m², with a kangaroo pocket and drawstring, in XS–6XL; expect 3–5% shrinkage after the first wash. See our Shambhala outfits guide and the Fractal Forest story The Quartz Trail.
5. Pickathon: a barn, a forest and five days on the farm
Pickathon returns to Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, near Portland, on August 4–8, 2027. The music is mostly indie and roots, with a DJ program by Daydream, played in the Galaxy Barn and on the Woods stage among the firs. Nights run 55–60°F.

Outfit note: breathable cotton for the barn and the meadow. The Blue Feathery Fractal cotton t-shirt ($60) mirrors blue, teal and violet feathers across the back, like a jay's wing held up to the light. It's 100% cotton at 190 g/m², in XS–5XL. Our Pickathon outfits guide covers the barn, the woods and the evening layer.
6. Bumbershoot: Seattle's Labor Day weekend
Bumbershoot ran on September 5–6, 2026, at Seattle Center as an all-ages arts and music festival, and its site signs off "see ya in 2027!" with dates TBA. Per Wikipedia, it began in 1971 as the city-funded Mayor's Arts Festival.
Outfit note: city-festival easy: a printed tee, comfortable shoes and a hoodie tied at the waist for the walk home.
7. Okanogan Family Barter Faire: frost, firewood and trade blankets
The faire gathers near Tonasket each mid-October, most recently on October 16–18, 2026, and while fall 2027 is still TBA, the official site now lists a Spring Faire for May 21–23, 2027. Its camping page sums up the weather: "Nights get frosty up here." Expect 25–35°F, the coldest nights on this list.

Outfit note: fleece from the first evening to the last trade. The Madriax Blue joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL) bloom violet and cobalt mandala rosettes down each leg, like frost flowers on a cabin window. Brushed vegan fleece inside, listed fabric weight 308 g/m², cuffed legs, side pockets and a slim fit in XS–3XL; order one or two sizes up for long johns underneath. Our guide to what to bring to a barter faire covers trade goods and etiquette, and the coldest music festivals in North America ranks it first.
8. Oregon Eclipse: the gathering that happened once
In August 2017, Oregon Eclipse filled Big Summit Prairie in the Ochoco Mountains for the August 21 total solar eclipse. Wikipedia records seven music stages, a plan for over 30,000 people and a production shared with festivals from Bass Coast to Envision. It was a one-time event, and no edition has followed.
Our love story Two Minutes of Totality is set on a central Oregon ranch in that same high-desert pine country.
Which Pacific Northwest festivals focus on electronic music?
Magus Fawn's picks for electronic music in the Pacific Northwest are Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge in Washington, plus Shambhala and Bass Coast in British Columbia. Shambhala leans into bass at its Village stage, Bass Coast curates bass, house and techno, and Pickathon adds a DJ program by Daydream to its indie and roots lineup.
The Oregon Country Fair and the Okanogan faire belong to a different tradition: handmade crafts, folk stages and community. Our pillar on what a transformational festival is explains the family resemblance. For psytrance in the islands and fog, read The Oracle and the Last Ferry, and for the big-picture calendar, see the must-attend festivals of 2027.
Does it rain at Pacific Northwest festivals in summer?
Rarely in midsummer. Seattle's climate record names July the driest month, with less than 1.6 inches of rain in July and August combined, and most of the festivals on this list fall in those weeks. Rain returns from October through May, so a fall gathering like the Okanogan faire calls for a dry plan.
According to Wikipedia's Climate of Seattle, the region brings "frequent, though light rainfall between October and May." So summer is about shade and sunscreen, the shoulder seasons about a shell: pack a light rain layer for any June or October event (our rain guide has the details).
Do you need a passport to go to a festival in BC?
U.S. citizens driving to Shambhala or Bass Coast should carry a valid passport, which Canada's border agency recommends. To drive back into the United States, a passport, passport card, enhanced driver's license or NEXUS card all qualify. Children under 16 crossing by land need only proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.
The Canada Border Services Agency adds that NEXUS members should still travel with a passport, and that an adult bringing a minor who isn't their own child, or without the other custodial parent, should carry a consent letter. The return rules come from U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative page. Bass Coast is 19+ with government-issued photo ID, per its FAQ.

Leave room underneath. Our FAQ suggests sizing up for outerwear like cloaks and hoodies, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under." Between sizes? Email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com.
Plan backward from the Gorge. Every piece is made to order: 7–11 business days of production, then 6–14 business days of delivery. Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge opens June 25, 2027, so our slow-end math puts the last order day for a U.S. address at Wednesday, May 12, 2027. All sales are final, US shipping is free at $70+, and international shipping starts at $10.
Layers for the firs: women's cloaks · men's cloaks · cotton hoodies · joggers · cotton tees · bucket hats · kids' festival clothing
Next summer the river keeps its rhythm and the firs hold the shade. Save a pocket for the stone somebody hands you on the trail.
