A girl in white rabbit ears checks a pocket watch that has never once told the time.
Behind her in the line outside the NOS Events Center, a guy in a towering velvet top hat hands out kandi like party favors at a tea party, and a Queen of Hearts fans herself with a deck of playing cards. Somewhere past the gates a bassline rolls out, the whole queue cheers, and a March breeze comes down off the mountains and lifts every cape and hood in sight.
That breeze is the first secret of good Beyond Wonderland outfits. Late March nights here sit around 45–50°F, which is perfect dancing weather and a chilly walk in a costume made of ribbons. The ravers who look best at 1 a.m. found the trick early: in Wonderland, the warm layer can be the costume.
We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, visionary artists from Los Angeles, about sixty miles west of this line. Here's how to dress for Beyond Wonderland SoCal 2027, character by character, warm from the first song to the walk back to the car. (For the story version of this night, read our Alice tale, Three Riddles Before Last Call.)
How do you stay warm at Beyond Wonderland without covering your outfit?
Make the warm layer part of the character. Magus Fawn's approach for Beyond Wonderland's 45–50°F nights is a hooded outer layer whose artwork plays the role, so you're in costume with it zipped, plus a light base underneath that shines when the floor heats up and the layer comes off.
The cold arrives at the exact moments you want photos: the entry line at dusk and the long walk out after the last set. A plain black puffer over a Queen of Hearts look turns royalty into someone waiting for a bus. A printed cloak or a cat-ear hood keeps the story going, and keeps the queen warm.
The night moves through four climates:
| Where you are | What it feels like | What you want on |
|---|---|---|
| The entry line at dusk | Mountain breeze, lots of standing | Everything on, hood up, hands in pockets |
| Deep in a packed crowd | Warm bodies, arms in the air | Base layer; outer layer open or tied at the waist |
| Wandering between stages | Brisk open air under the lights | Outer layer zipped, hood optional |
| The walk to the car | The coolest stretch of the night | Everything back on, zipped to the chin |
Every Magus Fawn festival cloak shares one build: a micro-mink outer, an ultra-soft fluffy microfiber fleece lining in black or white faux fur (listed fabric weight 200 g/m²), a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings and four pockets, two deep side pockets plus two interior stash pockets, one zippered. Unisex fit, XS–5XL. The zipper is the whole cold-night strategy: shut in the line, open the second the bass hits. Nicholas, reviewing our Sacred Grounds cloak in December 2023, wrote: "Super comfortable and warm."
Beyond Wonderland outfit ideas, one character at a time
Lewis Carroll packed Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) with characters who are basically outfit briefs: a rabbit with a pocket watch, a queen with a rose garden, a cat who leaves its grin behind. Pick one, commit to a single strong motif, and let the outer layer carry the color.

The Queen of Hearts. In the book, the Queen's gardeners paint white roses red in a hurry before she arrives. Skip the paint and wear the red. The Cosmic Cross Red festival cloak ($250) burns with copper and ember-red filigree across deep violet and indigo, mirrored perfectly down a jeweled center column like a face card. Add a heart-shaped crown and a fan of playing cards, and the courtiers will part for you. It's listed as a men's cloak, and every Magus Fawn cloak has a unisex fit.
The Mad Hatter. The Hatter's tea party never ends, and neither should your hat game. Swap the top hat for the Teal Mandala snapback ($40), teal mandala linework on black with an Om symbol on the side panel, patterned like the good china at a tea party that stopped at six o'clock. Carry a teacup on a ribbon and mismatch everything else on purpose.

The Cheshire Cat. Carroll's cat fades away until only the grin is left, which makes it the easiest character to wear warm. The Dream Weaver hooded blanket ($150) brings the ears: a cat-ear hood over blue, violet and aqua art, with a wolf face at the center whose glowing eyes stare back at the crowd (read the story behind the design: The Sand Loom). It's 300 g/m² poly fleece with a front quarter zip and an oversized front pocket, one size (4XL) with an oversize fit. Paint on the grin and keep smiling after you vanish into the crowd.

Alice, falling. Alice spends the first chapter tumbling down the rabbit hole past cupboards and bookshelves, which is exactly what the Liquified Abyss cotton hoodie ($100) looks like: liquid marbled swirls of violet, indigo, magenta, gold and teal pouring into each other (read the story behind the design: Meet Me at the Lake at 4 A.M.). It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m², dye-sublimated so the colors won't fade and the image won't crack, with a kangaroo pocket and a relaxed regular fit in XS–6XL. Allow 3–5% shrinkage after the first wash.
Underneath, the Angel Catcher teal yoga leggings ($70) scatter teal and aqua sacred-geometry stars across black, a storybook blue for an Alice who reads the fine print. They're four-way-stretch microfiber at 225 g/m² with a raised waistband, in XS–XL. Tie a black ribbon in your hair, hang a tiny golden key on a chain like the one Alice finds on the glass table, and you're the main character.
What should guys wear to Beyond Wonderland?
Pick a character with swagger and dress it in warm layers. Magus Fawn's formula for guys at Beyond Wonderland is a statement festival cloak as the costume, brushed-fleece joggers for the 45–50°F walk between stages, a snapback or hat for the character, and sneakers that can carry you from doors to the closing set.
The lineup mixes genres, so the dress code is wide open. One clear character beats five half-props.

The Caterpillar. Carroll's Caterpillar is "a large blue caterpillar" who greets Alice with "Who are you?" in a tone that suggests he already knows. The Blue Shroom Flower of Life men's festival cloak ($250) is that blue, head to hem: electric blue and violet symmetry lit with neon green, a flower-of-life emblem at the collar and coiled, segmented forms running down the back like something about to become a butterfly (read the forest story behind the design: Lost on Purpose). Answer every "Who are you?" with a long, slow pause.
The White Rabbit. The Rabbit is always late, always checking the watch from his waistcoat pocket, and always dressed better than the situation requires. The Madriax Grey joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL) carry black, grey and silver filigree, ornate as the engraving on an old pocket-watch case. Listed fabric weight 308 g/m², brushed vegan fleece inside, cuffed legs and a slim fit, so order one or two sizes up for a looser drape. Add white ears, a waistcoat and a watch on a chain, and run everywhere.
The same layering logic runs through our guide to what to wear to a winter rave.
When should you order a Beyond Wonderland outfit for 2027?
Order by mid-February 2027. Magus Fawn makes every piece to order: 7–11 business days of production, then 6–14 business days of delivery. At the slow end that's 25 business days, and counting back from a March 26 opening night lands on Thursday, February 18. The end of February is the last call.
Beyond Wonderland SoCal 2027 is set for March 26–27 at the NOS Events Center, per the official Beyond Wonderland SoCal site. An order placed by Friday, February 26 arrives in time when production and delivery land in the middle of their ranges.
Size outerwear for the costume underneath. Our FAQ suggests sizing up on cloaks and hoodies, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under." Tyler, reviewing our Ophanim cloak in November 2025, called it "Very cozy, a little longer than expected", which is worth knowing before you size up. All sales are final, so if you're between sizes, email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com; we typically reply within 1–2 business days. US shipping is free on orders of $70 or more, and every piece is 100% vegan friendly.
