Oregon's festival year starts and finishes at almost the same temperature. When the Biamp Portland Jazz Festival opens on March 4, 2027, March nights at Portland's airport average 39.7°F. When Sisters Folk Festival plays its final sets on September 26, NOAA's station at Redmond's airport, about 20 miles east, averages 40.6°F after dark.
The months between hold a riverfront blues weekend, the Oregon Country Fair in the Veneta woods, Pickathon's farm stages in Happy Valley and a two-stage weekend under the ponderosa pines of Sisters. East of the mountains, SOAK, a Burning Man regional founded in 2005, gathers each year in Tygh Valley.
SOAK, Bend Roots Revival and Cascade Equinox had not named 2027 dates by October 30, 2026; the other six had.

Portland: concert halls in March, a riverfront lawn in July
Biamp Portland Jazz Festival: from the Schnitzer to Revolution Hall (March 4–13)
PDX Jazz, a Portland nonprofit, has posted its 2027 festival lineup: ten days of shows, March 4–13, in halls and theaters around the city.
Outfit note: warm rooms, 39.7°F sidewalks. Velvet works inside the halls; the cloak covers the blocks between them.
Waterfront Blues Festival: the 40th year downtown (July 2–4)
The Waterfront Blues Festival returns to Tom McCall Waterfront Park, on the Willamette downtown, for its 40th edition on July 2–4, 2027. In 2026 it filled three stages; gates opened at noon, the music started at 1 p.m. and the day closed at 10:30 p.m.
Outfit note: Portland's July afternoons average 81.9°F. Bare arms for the lawn and a hood for the late sets: a sleeveless hooded tank covers both.
Willamette Valley trails and a farm near Happy Valley
Oregon Country Fair: costumes on the forest loops (July 9–11)
The Oregon Country Fair returns to its wooded grounds outside Veneta for three daytime sessions, July 9–11, 2027. Shuttles, parades and what to wear on the trails are in our Country Fair guide.
Outfit note: a daytime fair means the afternoon sets the dress code. A green cap shades the trail; the costume can be as bright as you like.
Pickathon: neighborhoods built into a farm (August 4–8)
Pickathon is back at Pendarvis Farm, Happy Valley, for August 4–8, 2027. The nonprofit Creative Neighborhoods builds it, and its 2026 info page described 80 acres, free camping on site and a reputation among designers as "Oregon's largest architecture festival."
Outfit note: Portland's August nights average 58.9°F. Keep the cloak at camp for after dark; our Pickathon outfit guide goes stage by stage, from the Woods to the Galaxy Barn.
Ponderosa country: Sisters, Redmond and Bend
Big Ponderoo: two stages under the pines (June 25–26)
SFF Presents, the Sisters nonprofit behind the folk festival, brings the fifth Big Ponderoo Music + Art Festival to Village Green Park on June 25 and 26, 2027, with Americana and bluegrass made for dancing, plus interactive art. Its 2026 FAQ named the Ponderoo and Pinecone stages and listed giant handmade puppets and a community quilting wall.
Outfit note: Redmond's June nights average 42.8°F, colder than a Portland night in April (43.7°F). Campers will want the cloak once the pines go dark.
Cascade Equinox Festival: coming back in 2027 (dates TBA)
The Cascade Equinox Festival says it is coming back in 2027 but has not posted dates. Its 2025 pages place the third edition in Redmond around the autumnal equinox, with music, art, workshops, a family zone and camping.
Outfit note: September nights at Redmond average 40.6°F: cloak weather. Equinox people may enjoy Two Minutes of Totality, our central Oregon eclipse romance, years in the making for two minutes of darkness.
Bend Roots Revival: a free community weekend (2027 dates TBA)
Bend Roots Revival marked its twentieth season on September 11–13, 2026, free and family-friendly. Its schedule ran from bluegrass and blues to hip-hop, funk and heavy metal. The 2027 edition has no date so far.
Outfit note: mid-September in Bend: a tee by day, then the velvet hoodie as the evening cools toward 40°F.
Sisters Folk Festival: "All The Town's A Stage" (September 24–26)
Founded in 1995, Sisters Folk Festival returns September 24–26, 2027, with more than 30 artists on seven stages scattered through downtown Sisters.
Outfit note: stages spread across town mean short walks in 40.6°F air between sets, so keep the cloak zipped.
Tygh Valley: SOAK, Oregon's Burning Man regional
SOAK: a volunteer-built burn (2027 dates TBA)
SOAK, Portland's Burning Man regional, meets each year in Tygh Valley. Its FAQ still describes 2026: Thursday, May 21 to Memorial Day, May 25, under the art theme Not to Scale, with the Major Burnable Structure burning Saturday night and the Temple on Sunday. Production on 2027 has begun, with no dates posted yet.
Outfit note: SOAK lists radical self-expression among its principles, so dress up, and plan layers for May nights like Redmond's 37.8°F. Our guide to regional burns explains how they relate to Black Rock City.
How much colder are central Oregon nights than Portland's?
Between 10 and 13.5 degrees in the festival months. September shows the widest gap: Redmond's airport averages 40.6°F at night against Portland International's 54.1°F in NOAA's 1991–2020 normals. The east side swings harder by day, too: Redmond's July afternoons reach 87.5°F and its nights fall 39 degrees, while Portland's drop is 23.4.
| Month | Portland International, high / low | Redmond Roberts Field, high / low |
|---|---|---|
| March | 56.8°F / 39.7°F | 54.9°F / 27.7°F |
| May | 69.3°F / 49.4°F | 69.1°F / 37.8°F |
| June | 74.3°F / 54.1°F | 77.2°F / 42.8°F |
| July | 81.9°F / 58.5°F | 87.5°F / 48.5°F |
| August | 82.3°F / 58.9°F | 86.5°F / 47.2°F |
| September | 76.7°F / 54.1°F | 78.6°F / 40.6°F |
Elevation matters here: Portland's station sits 19 feet above sea level, Redmond's at 3,043 feet. Source: NOAA NCEI climate normals (1991–2020, monthly) for Portland International Airport (USW00024229) and Redmond Roberts Field (USW00024230), checked October 30, 2026. Our 2027 festival calendar lists night lows for events nationwide.
Forest cloaks for Portland halls and Sisters pines
Two cloaks in the greens and teals of a wet forest lead, then three lighter pieces.

Fern fractals for the ponderosas. On the Feathery Fractal women's festival cloak ($250), green-teal filigree branches like fern fronds across deep violet and indigo, and zipping it shut lines up a dark diamond at the chest. Our pick for Sisters Folk's walks between stages and SOAK's May nights.
Either design comes unisex in XS–5XL, with a micro-mink poly shell at 200 g/m² lined in your pick of black or white faux fur. The hood draws shut on thick cords, two sliders run the front zipper, and there are pockets for both hands plus two sewn into the lining, one of them zipped.

Angel script in forest teal. Up close the Enochian Vision Teal men's festival cloak ($250) is mostly black, shaded with dark teal swirls, and rows of gold glyphs line both sides of the zipper, turning copper near the knees. Wear it across Portland between jazz halls in March, or to Cascade Equinox when its dates arrive.

Rain grey in velvet. The Cosmic Cross Silver crushed velvet pullover hoodie ($100) looks like frost on a windshield, pale lavender and pewter shards splitting from the chest toward the sleeves: the palette of a Portland sky between showers. The knit is crushed velvet with a little stretch (a 95/5 poly-spandex blend at 240 g/m²), cut to a regular fit in S–2XL, with black hood cords and a kangaroo pouch.

Moss green, with wings. On the Angel Catcher Green snapback hat ($40), two leaf-green wings spread from a hexagon packed with Flower of Life circles, all on charcoal traced with grey mandala lines; a fine geometric pattern rims the black brim. One size fits most, thanks to the snapback band. Shade for the Country Fair's trails and Big Ponderoo's lawn.

A kraken for the riverfront. Across the front of the Mechanical Kraken cotton sleeveless hooded tank ($80), a studded grey octopus machine spreads its arms over a gilded cathedral gate while pale violet jellyfish hang in glowing teal water. The cotton weighs 310 g/m², sized XS–5XL with a drawstring hood; the listing allows for 3–5% shrinkage once it's washed. Made for Waterfront Blues afternoons.
The $150 hooded blanket for a 42.8°F June campsite
Big Ponderoo opens its camping to weekend pass holders, and June nights at Redmond average 42.8°F. Between the last set and the first coffee, pull on our hooded blanket ($150). It comes in a single 4XL, 300 g/m² of polyester fleece, roomy enough to slide over the clothes you danced in. Cat ears crown the hood, a short zip opens under the chin, and one oversized pocket runs across the front.
Order dates for the jazz halls, the Sisters lawn and the riverfront
We keep no stock: your order starts the work. Printing and sewing take 7–11 business days, delivery another 6–14. We aim each order at the working day just before the gates open, count 25 working days back for the latest date and 30 for a relaxed one, and skip every weekend day and federal holiday along the way.
- Biamp Portland Jazz Festival (Thursday, March 4): relaxed date Tuesday, January 19; latest Tuesday, January 26 (Presidents' Day skipped).
- Big Ponderoo (Friday, June 25): relaxed date Tuesday, May 11; latest Tuesday, May 18 (Memorial Day and Juneteenth skipped).
- Waterfront Blues Festival (Friday, July 2): relaxed date Tuesday, May 18; latest Tuesday, May 25 (the same two holidays skipped).
Wrapping a present? The last order date for Christmas Eve is Tuesday, November 17, 2026. Our made-to-order guide counts back the same way for festivals across the country. Our FAQ advises sizing up cloaks and hoodies, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under," and Lylyth helps with fit by email (art@magusfawn.com).
The last folk set in Sisters
Sisters Folk Festival closes Oregon's 2027 list the way the jazz festival opens it: a short walk between stages, near 40°F, hood up. A whole Oregon summer fits between those two walks. Our must-attend list for 2027 names the out-of-state weekends we're circling.

Frequently asked questions
Which Portland venues host the 2027 jazz festival?
The Biamp Portland Jazz Festival runs March 4–13, 2027, at venues across Portland rather than a single site. Its 2027 shows announced so far use the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, the Roseland Theater, Revolution Hall and the Aladdin Theater. PDX Jazz, a nonprofit, presents the festival, and its members can buy tickets early and at a discount.
How did SOAK get from Tide Water Falls to Tygh Valley?
SOAK began in 2005, founded by members of Portland's Burning Man community who were inspired by KAOSmosis, a Crystal Ballroom party that also gave SOAK its name. The first SOAK drew 80 people at Tide Water Falls. Today more than 2,000 people attend each year in Tygh Valley.
Why is the Sisters Folk Festival spread across town?
Its motto is "All The Town's A Stage." Since 1995 the festival has set its seven stages around downtown Sisters, using large tents, a historic church and restaurant courtyards, so the crowd walks between sets. More than 30 artists play, and some lead small workshops. The 2027 festival runs September 24–26.
Where do people sit at the Waterfront Blues Festival?
On the grass. Its 2026 information page described most of the park as a sloping lawn and allowed each guest a single low lawn chair, plus a personal umbrella up to 62 inches. Shows go on rain or shine, though July is Portland's driest month in NOAA's normals, at 0.51 inches. The 40th festival runs July 2–4, 2027.
