Music Festivals in Utah 2027: Desert Burns, Lakeside Bass and Mountain Nights

Salt rides the breeze off the Great Salt Lake. Far to the south, the cliffs above Torrey turn the color of a struck match, and three hours northwest of Salt Lake City an effigy stands among the wild grasses, waiting for its Friday burn. Utah packs three festival climates into one year, and you meet each of them after dark.

That's reason enough to give Utah a map of its own instead of a paragraph in our Southwest festival hub. Each date here was read on the festivals' own sites in late October 2026: five are confirmed for 2027, from Kilby in May to three nights of bass at the Saltair in August, and two are still TBA.

Which Utah festivals are on the 2027 calendar so far?

Utah's confirmed 2027 festivals are Kilby Block Party (May 14–16, Salt Lake City), Element 11 (June 2–6, near Park Valley), Fort Desolation (June 17–19, Torrey), the Utah Arts Festival (June 24–27, Salt Lake City) and Das Energi (August 6–8, Magna). The Ogden Music Festival and Breakaway Utah haven't posted 2027 dates yet.

Each low is a 1991–2020 NOAA NCEI monthly normal, checked October 30, 2026, from Torrey 7 E for Fort Desolation or Salt Lake Triad Center for the valley. *Element 11's figure comes from the daily normals in our Element 11 guide.

Two NOAA stations, two kinds of Utah night

Magus Fawn reads Utah's nights from two stations: Salt Lake Triad Center, about a mile and a quarter from the Fairpark gates, for the valley floor from the Saltair to Sandy and Ogden, and Torrey 7 E, roughly seven miles east of Torrey, for the plateau.

Here's the twist: a June afternoon near Torrey runs as warm as one downtown (82.0°F against 82.7°F), yet the plateau night lands four degrees cooler, a swing of about 26 degrees. Same sun, thinner air, a longer drop.

Burns and bass: Element 11, Das Energi and Breakaway Utah

Element 11: Utah's sanctioned burn, three weeks earlier

Element 11 jumps ahead in 2027: its official site has saved June 2nd–6th, three weeks before 2026's June 24–28, to give the burn its best shot before the seasonal burn ban and to stay off Apogaea's weekend. The maps page still points to Stargazer Ranch, a three-hour drive from Salt Lake City toward Park Valley, and the FAQ says the effigy usually burns Friday evening, the temple Saturday. Outfit note: sun cover until dinner, then the deepest hood you own for the burns; both cloaks below suit the basin.

Das Energi: three nights on the lakeshore at the Saltair

The Das Energi info and FAQ page brings the festival back to The Saltair, 12408 W Saltair Dr. in Magna, for three nights, August 6–8, 2027. It's 18+, and only a government-issued ID gets you in (photos of IDs don't count), with no re-entry or camping. Our Das Energi outfit guide covers the item list.

Outfit note: an August valley night near 68°F asks for texture more than weight. The Solar Eclipse crushed velvet tee ($60 in velvet, $50 in poly jersey, $60 in cotton) stacks three dark discs down the chest, the top one haloed in gold, then a pale Flower of Life cupped in blue petals, then teal and copper paisley. Its 240 g/m² velvet (95% poly, 5% spandex, regular cut, XS–5XL) shimmers silver-gray under the lasers. Eclipses line up Sun and Moon; the Saltair lines up the bass.

Breakaway Utah: a stadium weekend in Sandy, 2027 still TBA

Breakaway's touring EDM festival played America First Field in Sandy on October 2–3, 2026, with GA for 18 and over, per its Utah 2026 page. The 2027 season page names Tampa, Atlanta, Ohio and Minnesota so far, with Phase 2 to come; our Breakaway outfit guide follows the tour.

Outfit note: October nights near 47°F make an early-autumn Breakaway the second-coolest stop here; if Utah returns on similar dates, bring a lined hood.

Tents and string bands: Fort Desolation and the Ogden Music Festival

Fort Desolation: Torrey's camp-out moves to June

Fort Desolation returns to Cougar Ridge Resort in Torrey on June 17–19, 2027, per its official site, after a late-September 2026 edition with Drive-By Truckers and Andrew Bird first on the bill. Campsites sit on the festival grounds, up to six people each, with after-hours jams by festival artists, and the 2026 FAQ let kids 12 and under in free with a ticket-holding adult.

Ogden Music Festival: acoustic roots at Fort Buenaventura

The Ogden Music Festival hasn't posted 2027 dates. Its 18th edition ran May 29–31, 2026, at Fort Buenaventura, 2450 A Avenue in Ogden, an Americana, progressive bluegrass and blues bill led by Yonder Mountain String Band, per organizers Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music. Tent and RV camping passes are first-come, first-served, under leave no trace.

Outfit note: late May on the valley floor still averages a 52°F night. The Golden Phoenix kids' pullover hoodie ($75) spreads violet and teal-blue wings, edged in gold filigree, that meet at a glowing green medallion on black. The Greek phoenix is born again in cycles, like a festival on its 18th edition. The 230 g/m² scuba (95% poly, 5% spandex) resists creases and pills, the hood is drawstring-free, and the kangaroo pocket takes pinecones. Kids' sizes run 2XS to XL.

Salt Lake City's downtown weekends: Kilby Block Party and the Utah Arts Festival

Kilby Block Party: three days at the Utah State Fairpark

Kilby Block Party runs May 14–16, 2027, at the Utah State Fairpark, 155 N 1000 W in Salt Lake City, with Deftones, The Strokes and Jungle heading Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the official 2027 poster. The FAQ makes it all ages, with tickets for everyone over 2. Bags have to be see-through and 12 x 12 x 6 inches at most; chairs, blankets and tents stay outside. Concerts run rain or shine, ponchos are allowed, and there's no camping.

Outfit note: May afternoons average 72°F. The Golden OM snapback ($40) crowds a black crown with zigzag mandalas in gold, amber and copper, with a copper six-pointed star in a ring on the brim; its namesake Om is on the other side, out of this shot. Hindu texts often open and close their chapters with Om, fitting for a festival you'll open and close in the same hat. One size, snapback band, 150 g/m² polyester.

Utah Arts Festival: four days of stages, films and makers

The Utah Arts Festival has saved June 24–27, 2027, on its official site, after its 50th edition on June 18–21, 2026: four days downtown with 170-plus artists, 200-plus live performances and 80-plus films, and more than 42,000 visitors in 2025, per its about page.

Outfit note: late June downtown runs from 83°F afternoons to 60°F nights. The Liquid Gold women's yoga leggings ($70) swirl gold and mustard through chocolate brown, with olive shadows, yellow-green flashes and near-black seams, like gold leaf rippling under an artist's hand. Its 225 g/m² microfiber has four-way stretch, and sits high at the waist, XS to XL; keep it off rough benches, which can snag it.

The Utah wardrobe starts at the hood

For Element 11 and the October valley: the Egyptian Atlantis women's festival cloak ($250) carries a temple frieze in gold and amber on black: a winged chevron across the hood, a ringed golden tree with a blue gem set in its crown, two seated jackals guarding a domed vessel and sphinxes lying low at the hem. Plato's Timaeus and Critias, the only primary sources for Atlantis, route the story through Egypt. At an effigy burn the gold catches firelight from every side. Kopano reviewed this exact cloak on May 15, 2026: "Everything about the item is good . Very impressed"

For Fort Desolation and the Torrey cliffs: the Yellow Dream Weaver men's festival cloak ($250) sets a gold wildcat mid-back, a violet accent on its forehead, amid gold spires and olive and chartreuse scrollwork, with violet-magenta plumes at the sides. Under Torrey's orange cliffs, all that gold looks right at home.

Before the camp kitchen wakes: a cat-ear blanket for Torrey and Ogden

Fort Desolation, the Ogden Music Festival and Element 11 all let you sleep on site, and camp is chilliest just after sunrise, with the tents still in shadow. That hour belongs to our hooded blankets with ears ($150): a single oversized 4XL of 300 g/m² poly fleece with a cat-eared hood, a part-way zip and one wide front pocket. Kilby's prohibited list includes blankets, so that weekend it stays home.

Three spring order-by days: Kilby, Element 11 and Fort Desolation

Torrey after the encore

The main stage goes dark at Cougar Ridge, and the campground starts its second set: a guitar here, a fiddle answering from three sites over, a few voices finding the chorus. The cliffs have gone from struck-match orange to deep plum, the stars come out thick over Capitol Reef country, and every hood around the circle is up.

Which TRAX line runs to Kilby Block Party?

The TRAX Green Line, which stops at Fairpark Station for the Utah State Fairpark. Kilby Block Party's FAQ recommends it, and a festival ticket covers free rides on UTA buses, TRAX, the streetcar, FrontRunner and microtransit from May 14 to 16, 2027. Parking at the Fairpark is very limited.

Has Breakaway announced a 2027 Utah date?

Not yet. Breakaway's 2027 season page lists Tampa, Atlanta, Ohio and Minnesota so far, with more dates to come. Utah's edition ran October 2–3, 2026, at America First Field in Sandy, with Tiësto, Chris Lake and Gorgon City b2b MPH, and general admission was 18 and over.
