South Carolina keeps its festivals at opposite corners of the map. The coast has the big names: the Gullah Festival in Beaufort, Spoleto in Charleston and country music on the Myrtle Beach oceanfront. Inland, Columbia hands Finlay Park to a free day of music, Greenville fills its downtown with art, and the Blue Ridge foothills gather for Appalachian music at a historic mill in Pickens.
Pack for the drive between them: Greer's weather station sits about 900 feet above Charleston's, and foothill nights run cooler all year.

Salt air and live oaks: the coastal festivals
Charleston Bluegrass Festival: camping at Woodlands Nature Reserve (2027 dates TBA)
The Charleston Bluegrass Festival last ran March 20–21, 2026, at The Woodlands Nature Reserve: a family camping weekend with local food and craft vendors, RV rentals, and kayaking and biking between sets. Its 2027 weekend is still to be announced.
Outfit note: March nights average 47.3°F at the Charleston station, about six miles away. Wear the Mechanical Kraken cloak to the evening sets and sleep in the hooded blanket.
Original Gullah Festival: Decoration Day on Beaufort's waterfront (May 28–30)
On Memorial Day weekend, May 28–30, 2027, the Original Gullah Festival draws more than 35,000 people to Beaufort's Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park for storytelling, dance, jazz, blues, reggae and African drums, an arts-and-crafts market and traditional Gullah food. Lest We Forget panels and the Decoration Day Play teach its history, and a riverboat cruise opens the weekend on May 27.
Outfit note: it's a daytime festival, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and May afternoons average 83.6°F at the Charleston station, about 50 miles up the coast. A gold snapback and a tee will do.
Spoleto Festival USA: 17 days in Charleston's theaters and churches (May 28–June 13)
Spoleto Festival USA runs May 28–June 13, 2027, opening as always on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Opera, theater, dance and music from chamber and choral to jazz fill Charleston's historic theaters, churches and outdoor spaces, about 150 performances in a typical season. The 2027 festival comes fifty years after its first season in 1977.
Outfit note: Charleston nights average 63.0°F in late May and 70.4°F in June, so the Mystical Egypt hoodie covers the walk between venues.
Carolina Country Music Fest: five stages on Ocean Boulevard (June 10–13)
Myrtle Beach gives its oceanfront to country music on June 10–13, 2027, when Carolina Country Music Fest sets up five stages at 812 North Ocean Boulevard; the festival dates its first edition to 2015. Your wristband is the ticket, scanned at the gate every day, and only clear bags go in. Music starts at 3 p.m. on the Thursday and at 1 p.m. through the weekend.
Outfit note: June nights average 70.4°F at our Charleston station, about 87 miles down the coast. Spend the afternoon in a swimsuit, then tie a hoodie around your waist for the 11:30 p.m. close.
Inland from the fall line: Greenville, the foothills and Columbia
Artisphere: Artist Row and street stages in downtown Greenville (May 7–9)
Artisphere fills downtown Greenville with art, music and local food on May 7–9, 2027. Artist Row is chosen by jury, and in 2026 seven stages, an aerial arts amphitheater among them, hosted everything from a circus troupe to a living statue.
Outfit note: at the Greer station, about ten miles away, May averages 80.3°F by day and 57.5°F at night: a cap, then the hoodie.
Pickens Appalachian Folk Festival: two free days at Hagood Mill (2027 dates TBA)
In northern Pickens County, where the Blue Ridge begins, the Pickens Appalachian Folk Festival fills the Hagood Mill Historic Site with mountain music. Its fourth edition ran October 23–24, 2026: a Friday evening of Appalachian music, then a Saturday of bluegrass, old-time, blues and storytelling, with artisan vendors, food trucks, kids' games and period demonstrators. Admission was free, and primitive tent and car camping cost $10 a person for one night or $15 for two (ages 10 and up). The 2027 dates aren't posted yet.
Outfit note: Greer, about 30 miles away, averages 50.4°F on October nights. Zip the Crystalline Forest cloak for Friday evening and sleep in the hooded blanket.
Jam Room Music Festival: Columbia's no-ticket festival in Finlay Park (2027 date TBA)
Jam Room Music Festival costs nothing to attend; the nonprofit Jam Room Foundation runs it. Its 2026 edition falls on Saturday, November 14, in Finlay Park; 2027's date isn't posted yet.
Outfit note: neither of our stations is close to Columbia. Greer, about 90 miles away, averages 40.4°F on November nights, and Charleston, about 96 miles away, 47.1°F. Bring the cloak.
Charleston and Greer: two stations, 900 feet apart
Nights at Greer run 4.9 to 7.3 degrees cooler than at Charleston's airport through the festival months. The Greer station sits at 940 feet at the Greenville-Spartanburg airport, Charleston's at 40 feet. Afternoons tell a different story: in June the two finish 1.3 degrees apart.
| Month | Charleston airport, afternoon / night | Greer, afternoon / night |
|---|---|---|
| March | 70.1°F / 47.3°F | 64.4°F / 41.2°F |
| April | 77.1°F / 54.5°F | 73.2°F / 48.7°F |
| May | 83.6°F / 63.0°F | 80.3°F / 57.5°F |
| June | 88.5°F / 70.4°F | 87.2°F / 65.5°F |
| October | 77.9°F / 57.7°F | 73.1°F / 50.4°F |
| November | 69.4°F / 47.1°F | 62.9°F / 40.4°F |
The table's 30-year averages, 1991 through 2020, come from NOAA's climate normals for Charleston International Airport (USW00013880) and Greer (USW00003870), read October 30, 2026; our 2027 festival calendar pairs dates and lows for other states.
Stained glass and a sea monster: our South Carolina wardrobe
Our South Carolina palette comes from the drive: palmetto green, Lowcountry indigo and marsh gold, with two women's cloaks leading.

Palmetto green for Hagood Mill. In our top photo, the Crystalline Forest women's cloak ($250) hangs open in a stained-glass blaze of lime, emerald, cobalt, magenta, violet and gold, with pale gold bands at the cuffs. It's our pick for a Friday evening of Appalachian music in Pickens.
The close-up shows its one zippered pocket, set inside the front beside the main zipper, where keys stay put through a long set. A second inner pocket and a pair of deep pockets at the sides make four in all. Two sliders work the front zipper, thick cords gather the hood, and the outside is 200 g/m² micro-mink; pick black or white for the faux-fur side. Unisex sizes run XS–5XL.

Lowcountry indigo for March. On the Mechanical Kraken women's cloak ($250), a kraken stares out from the chest with four glowing green eyes, its tentacles traced in silver and bronze over a ground of deep navy. Below them rise rows of spires like the inside of an engine, violet curls run along the sleeves, and teal lightning flickers at the hem. We'd wear it zipped to the Woodlands bluegrass campout. The men's cut of this design hangs in a lobster boat's wheelhouse in The Dawn Haul Wager, our love story from a foggy Nova Scotia harbor festival.

Marsh gold for Spoleto evenings. On the Mystical Egypt cotton pullover hoodie ($100), a gold pharaoh face peers out below the collar, and glowing orbs stack down the front from violet to red. Gold circles and stars fill the black ground, and a strip of glyphs runs along the hem. It's 310 g/m² cotton, relaxed in XS–6XL, with a pouch pocket and hood strings; the first cold wash takes it in 3 to 5 percent, so hang it to dry.

Cobalt for the Grand Strand. On the Metallic Blue Fractal women's one-piece swimsuit ($65, rising to $69 at 3XL; sizes XS–3XL), a fractal mirrors itself in cobalt and royal blue, its forms layered like feathers or fish scales, and the photo shows how low the back is cut. Wear it on the Myrtle Beach sand before Carolina Country Music Fest opens its gates, with the kraken cloak on top once the ocean breeze turns cool.

Marsh gold on top. Gold, mustard and dark brown marble across the Liquid Gold snapback ($40), crown to brim, flicked with chartreuse like a salt marsh at sundown. One size, adjustable at the back: our cap for a Gullah Festival afternoon.
Between sets at the campground: our $150 hooded blanket
Woodlands and Hagood Mill both let you sleep on site, by tent, car or RV, and Greer's October nights average 50.4°F. We'd unroll our hooded blanket ($150) there. The hood carries two cat ears, a short zip parts at the neck, and a deep pocket spans the front. Everyone gets the same generous 4XL, and its fleece is all polyester at 300 g/m², so it pulls over a hoodie without a fight.
Counting back from May 7 and May 28
Nothing is cut or printed before you check out. Production runs as long as 11 business days; after that, delivery can take up to 14. Our last-call date gets even the slowest parcel to you by the last weekday before the festival starts, and the spare-week date gives you five more working days to try it all on. Neither window crosses a federal holiday.

Our made-to-order explainer does this math for festivals in other states. Unsure of your size? Write to art@magusfawn.com before ordering; we usually write back within two business days, and since each piece is sewn just for you, sales are final. If a hoodie will ride under your cloak at Hagood Mill, go a size up, or two for bulky layers, as our FAQ advises. Any US order of $70 or more ships at no charge.
Drums on the waterfront, string bands at the mill
South Carolina's year runs from African drums on Beaufort's waterfront to, going by 2026, storytellers and string bands at Hagood Mill, and the Gullah Festival's riverboat cruise sails the day before the 2027 festival. Whichever end of the state you pick, the nights cool off faster than the afternoon suggests, so the cloak rides along.

Frequently asked questions
What does Decoration Day have to do with the Gullah Festival?
Everything. In 1985, Rosalie Pazant, her daughters Charlotte, Lolita and Reba, and family friend Marlena McGhee remembered how Beaufort's Black community once celebrated Decoration Day, today's Memorial Day. They started the Gullah Festival in 1986 to recreate that spirit, and a Decoration Day Play is still staged every year.
How did a festival from Spoleto, Italy, end up in Charleston?
Composer Gian Carlo Menotti wanted an American partner for the Festival of Two Worlds he had founded in Spoleto, Italy, in 1958. He chose Charleston for its charm and its theaters and churches, a city small enough for the festival to fill and worldly enough to support it. Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. championed the first season in 1977.
Is it hard to get a place on Artisphere's Artist Row?
Yes. For the 2026 festival, 1,063 artists applied for Artist Row and a jury chose 140 of them, about one in eight. The same year Artisphere counted 540 local visual and performing artists, 243 student artists, 130 performances and 85,000 visitors in downtown Greenville. The 2027 festival runs May 7–9.
