Hailstones bounce off a geodesic dome like spilled pearls, and inside, a dozen strangers in marabou and faux fur laugh and pass a thermos of cocoa down the line. Ten minutes later the storm drifts east over the ponderosas, the meadow steams, and the fire art glows against a sky rinsed clean.
Six months and three hours north, Colorado wears a different face. Breath clouds rise over a downtown Denver sidewalk, snow glitters in the streetlights, and a line of hooded coats inches toward the convention center doors while the bass hums through the glass.
Music festivals in Colorado swing that widely: a mountain burn where the sky tries out every season before dinner, a September dance festival in the Mile High City, and a two-night New Year's rave where the coat check is part of the ritual.
We put this Colorado list together as Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists and festival lifers. Each event's 2027 status is checked on its official site in October 2026, with an outfit for every stop.
What are Colorado's biggest music festivals in 2027?
Colorado's festival year runs from Apogaea, the state's official Burning Man regional, in the mountains in June, to Global Dance Festival in Denver in September and Decadence, a two-night New Year's rave at the Colorado Convention Center. Sonic Bloom, the solstice favorite near Rye, has been on hiatus since 2024.
Statuses reflect October 2026; night lows are seasonal averages, not forecasts.
| Event | Location | Month | Overnight lows | Confirmed dates |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apogaea | Valdez (2026 site) | June | 50–55°F | 2027 TBA |
| Sonic Bloom | Hummingbird Ranch near Rye | June solstice | 40s°F | On hiatus since 2024; no return announced |
| Global Dance Festival | LVC Festival Grounds, Denver | September | Around 50°F | 2027 TBA |
| Decadence Colorado | Colorado Convention Center, Denver | Dec 30–31 | Around 18°F outside | Dec 30–31, 2026 |
Four Colorado events, June wildflowers to December snow
Read them in calendar order and the year unfolds from a mountain meadow to a convention hall.
1. Apogaea: an official regional burn in the high country

Apogaea is "registered as an official Burning Man Regional Event for Colorado," a Wednesday-to-Sunday gathering of about 2,000 people in early summer. The 2026 edition, "Mythos & Mechanica," ran June 10–14 near Valdez, about 3.5 hours south of Denver. The 2027 dates are TBA, and the venue page says organizers hope to grow and "possibly move closer to Denver."
The survival guide sums up the mountain in two lines: "Daytime highs are 85-90 degrees with full sun, and nighttime lows are 50-55 degrees," and "anything can happen." It also asks for "a wide-brimmed hat," because "the sun is more intense in Colorado."
Outfit note: a wide brim by day, faux fur by night. The Temple of Horus men's festival cloak ($250) spreads four translucent, veined wings in green, gold and violet across a back of cobalt and violet swirls, like a dragonfly resting on the night sky. It has a micro-mink outer, a fluffy microfiber fleece lining in black or white faux fur, a double front zipper and four pockets (two deep side pockets and two interior stash pockets, one zippered), in a unisex XS–5XL. Kevin, on his Lunar Eclipse cloak in March 2025: "Super soft and warm." (The lake story behind the design: The Eye Made Whole.)

For the brim, the Lucid bucket hat ($50) swirls violet, pink, orange and lime into kaleidoscope rosettes, with a small coral heart tucked on the brim, in XS, S/M and L/XL. Our Apogaea outfits guide covers the feather rule, fire safety and the full day-to-night kit, and Under One Hood tells a mountain-burn storm as a love story.
2. Sonic Bloom: a solstice favorite, resting for now
Sonic Bloom gathered bass and livetronica fans at Hummingbird Ranch near Rye around the June solstice, with the Spanish Peaks in view, a Permaculture Action Day and nights in the 40s°F. In December 2023 the organizers announced a hiatus after 15 editions since 2006. As of October 2026, no return has been announced, and the festival's website no longer shows event information.
Outfit note: if it blooms again, pack it like a high-country bass weekend: hoodie, fleece joggers and a hooded outer layer for the late sets. Our story The Sparrow on the Cuff captures that feeling at an unnamed Colorado mountain bass festival.
3. Global Dance Festival: Denver's September tradition
Global Dance Festival calls itself "Colorado's longest-running dance music festival" and "Colorado's largest summer music festival," a fixture of the state's dance scene since the early 2000s. The 2026 edition ran September 11–12 at a new home, the LVC Festival Grounds on National Western Drive, across indoor and outdoor spaces. Gates ran 4 p.m. to midnight, and the FAQ allows no re-entry. The 2027 dates are TBA.
Denver's September averages run from about 80°F in the afternoon to 50°F overnight, so a midnight walk to the car feels like a different season.

Outfit note: sleeveless for the afternoon, cotton and fleece for the encore. The Egyptian Atlantis cotton sleeveless hooded tank ($80) gilds a deep navy field with a tree-of-life medallion between two eye-in-a-triangle roundels, framed by birds, standing Egyptian figures and hieroglyph panels, like a temple wall at golden hour. It comes in XS–5XL, with a hood for shade while the sun is still high.

When the air cools, pull on the Crimson Fenrir cotton pullover hoodie ($100): a snarling black-and-silver wolf with red eyes leaps out of crimson smoke across black, a fitting guardian now that wolves roam Colorado again. It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m² with a kangaroo pocket, in XS–6XL; expect 3–5% shrinkage after the first wash, so wash it cold and air dry. (Its winter story: Snowed In, set at a Rocky Mountain lodge.)

Below the hoodie, the Celestial Temple joggers ($100 in every size) raise silver and bronze temple towers among glowing orbs, blue sparks and violet stars on navy, a skyline from another galaxy. Inside is 308 g/m² brushed vegan fleece, with cuffed legs, side pockets and an elastic waist with drawstring. The fit is slim in XS–3XL, so order one or two sizes up for a looser fit.
4. Decadence Colorado: a downtown New Year in two nights
Decadence fills the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver on December 30 and 31, 2026, billing itself as "America's biggest electronic New Years celebration." More below on the venue, the rules and the coat check. Texas rings in the same two nights at Lights All Night in Dallas, covered in our Texas festival guide.
What is Decadence Colorado?
Decadence Colorado is a two-night New Year's electronic music festival at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver, produced by the Global Dance team. The 2026 edition runs December 30 and 31, inside more than 400,000 square feet of exhibit halls. It's 18+, there's a coat check in the lobby, and re-entry isn't allowed.
The venue page promises exhibit halls transformed into two arenas, with entry lines forming indoors in the lobby, light rail nearby and downtown hotels within walking distance. Denver's December averages run from about 44°F in the afternoon to 18°F overnight, according to the climate table on Wikipedia's Denver page, so the cold belongs to the walk, not the dance floor.

For the walk in: the Blue Sorceress women's festival cloak ($250) sets a white unicorn inside a pale coiled ring above a glowing blue orb, with teal waves and indigo feathered scales sweeping around it and two pale moons at the shoulders, a snowy night drawn in blues. It's the same faux-fur-lined build as the Temple of Horus cloak above, with a double front zipper that closes to the chin for the sidewalk. Check it in the lobby and collect it on the way out.

For the halls: the Mechanical Kraken women's crushed velvet crop hoodie ($75) curls silver-blue tentacles around lavender jellyfish on deep navy, a deep-sea dream for the bass bins. It's 240 g/m² crushed velvet (95% poly, 5% spandex), a long-sleeve hooded crop with a drawstring, in S–3XL. Our guides to Countdown NYE outfits and indoor raves have more ideas for a warm floor and a cold queue.
Is Red Rocks a music festival?
No. Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison is a concert venue, not a festival, and it celebrated the 85th anniversary of its June 15, 1941 grand opening this year, according to the official Red Rocks site. Many electronic artists play single-night shows there, and Global Dance promotes some of them, but each one is a concert.
That's why Red Rocks isn't on our list, even though it's often the first name people say when they talk about Colorado music. If you're going to a show there, our story Her Hands in the Dark includes a section on what to wear for a warm afternoon and a cool encore at a red-rock amphitheater.

Order-by dates for Colorado's calendar
Every Magus Fawn piece is made to order: 7–11 business days of production, then 6–14 business days of delivery, so the longest combined run is 25 business days.
- Decadence (Dec 30, 2026): a Thursday, November 19, 2026 order lands by Tuesday, December 29, even at the slowest pace.
- Apogaea (June 2027, dates TBA): our working date is Wednesday, April 28, 2027, as worked out in the Apogaea guide. Move it once the burn announces.
- Global Dance Festival (September 2027, dates TBA): count back five weeks from the first day once the dates are out.
Fit for layering. Our FAQ suggests sizing up for outerwear like cloaks and hoodies, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under." All sales are final, so if you're between sizes, email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com. US shipping is free at $70+.

Frequently asked questions
Is Decadence Colorado 18+?
Yes. The Decadence rules page says "THIS EVENT IS 18+" and turns away anyone without an acceptable ID as proof of age; a passport or a hard-copy driver's license or state ID works, and photocopies don't. Re-entry isn't allowed except in designated emergencies, so bring everything you need for the night when you arrive.
Is Sonic Bloom coming back?
No return has been announced. Sonic Bloom went on hiatus in 2024 after 15 editions held around the summer solstice since 2006, most recently at Hummingbird Ranch near Rye, Colorado. As of October 2026, its website no longer shows event information. Follow the festival's social channels, and pack for 40s°F nights if it blooms again.
Where is Global Dance Festival held?
Global Dance Festival moved to the LVC Festival Grounds at 4850 National Western Drive in Denver for its 2026 edition, which ran September 11–12. The festival describes the site as both indoor and outdoor spaces, transformed into an immersive experience. Gates ran from 4 p.m. to midnight each day. The 2027 dates and venue are TBA.
Which Colorado music festivals welcome all ages?
Global Dance Festival lists all-ages entry, with VIP areas for 18 and over and bars for 21 and over. Apogaea welcomes families too: children 12 and under attend free with a registered ticket, and youth tickets cover ages 13 to 17. Decadence is 18+. Check each event's rules page before you buy.
