Ski and Snow Music Festivals 2027: Where to Rave on the Mountain (and What to Wear)

|Magus Fawn

The lift drops you into the village with snow still packed in your boot treads, and the bassline is already rolling up the street to meet you.

Ski jackets hang open. Goggles ride on foreheads. A snowcat grinds past a line of chalets strung with lights, and somewhere between the lift station and the stage, a hood goes up. Down its back, a feathered dragon circles a rearing white unicorn, the pair as pale as moonlight on a cornice.

This is the snow festival: a ski week and a rave week folded into one.

We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, and we design for cold nights from a warm Los Angeles studio. Here are the four Alpine ski music festivals with official dates this season, how cold their villages get after dark, and a cloak-led wardrobe for everything from the summit set to the last song.

Which ski and snow music festivals are happening in 2027?

Four Alpine ski music festivals have official dates for the 2026–27 season: Rise in Les Deux Alpes (December 5–12, 2026), Snowboxx in Avoriaz (March 13–20, 2027), Tomorrowland Winter in Alpe d'Huez (March 20–27, 2027) and Snowbombing in Mayrhofen (April 5–10, 2027). Each pairs a week of skiing with stages on and below the slopes.

Festival Mountain home Official dates The scene
Rise Les Deux Alpes, France December 5–12, 2026 (2027 TBA) Glacier resort, a stage at 2,600 m
Snowboxx Avoriaz, France March 13–20, 2027 Car-free village, open-air arena
Tomorrowland Winter Alpe d'Huez, France March 20–27, 2027 Heated MainStage, mountain stages
Snowbombing Mayrhofen, Austria April 5–10, 2027 Forest stage, street party

Rise, Les Deux Alpes: the December opener

Rise calls Les Deux Alpes home to "Europe's largest skiable glacier," and its 2026 week runs December 5–12, already listed as 99% sold out. Its High Altitude Arena, the Pano Bar, sits at 2,600 m, while the Muzelle Stage waits at the foot of the slopes. Rise's 2027 dates are TBA.

Snowboxx, Avoriaz: the car-free week

The Snowboxx FAQ sets 2027 for Saturday, March 13 to Saturday, March 20 in Avoriaz, "the highest resort of Les Portes du Soleil." Après starts at La Folie Douce, where "you can, literally, ski into this party." The resort is car-free, and the Snowboxx site lists fancy dress among its off-piste events.

Tomorrowland Winter, Alpe d'Huez: the big production

Tomorrowland Winter returns to Alpe d'Huez March 20–27, 2027, and every festival ticket includes a lift and ski pass. Artists play mountain stages and village spots "accessible to skiers and non-skiers alike," then the night moves to "the iconic, heated MainStage." Our Tomorrowland Belgium guide covers the summer original.

Snowbombing, Mayrhofen: the spring finale

Snowbombing brings its 27th edition to Mayrhofen in Austria's Zillertal, April 5–10, 2027. Its venues include a Forest Stage "deep within a canopy of fir trees," lasers cutting through the branches, and a street party that takes over Mayrhofen's streets.

Do you have to ski to go to a ski music festival?

No. Snowbombing says a lift or mountain pass gets you into its mountain venues "but you do not need to ski or snowboard," and Tomorrowland Winter calls its mountain stages "accessible to skiers and non-skiers alike." Plenty of guests ride the lift up, dance through the afternoon and ride back down.

The Snowbombing FAQ says mountain venues generally run from 12pm to 4pm, with the last lift down at 4:30pm, then town parties from 3pm "until the early hours," and its advice for the gap is perfect: "take the lift back down, grab dinner, get changed." Your ski kit owns the slopes. The village nights belong to art.

How cold do Alpine ski festivals get at night?

Below freezing on most nights. At Météo-France's Alpe d'Huez station (1,860 m), in Tomorrowland Winter's village, March averages a low of −3.9 °C (25°F) and a high of 4.2 °C (40°F), with about 26 nights at or below freezing. December runs colder, averaging −4.5 °C (24°F) overnight. Pack a warm, hooded outer layer.

The days tell a sunnier story. Alpe d'Huez, nicknamed "The Island in the Sun," counts around 300 sunny days a year, and the EPA notes that "UV intensity increases about 6% per kilometer elevation" above sea level, so Rise's 2,600 m arena gets roughly 16% more UV than the beach. Sunscreen and shades for the afternoon set, a hood for the walk home.

What should you wear to a ski music festival?

Wear your ski kit on the slopes, then change into a faux-fur-lined festival cloak for the village: it zips over velvet or a tee, carries your essentials in four pockets, and turns heads on a snowy street. Add fleece-lined joggers or leggings underneath, and a hooded blanket for chalet mornings and slow evenings.

Blue Sorceress: a cloak made for snow light

Front of the Blue Sorceress men's festival cloak, worn hood up at a festival: teal, indigo and violet panels with pale blue orbs at the cuffs

The Blue Sorceress Men's Festival Cloak ($250) is the one from our opening scene. Across the back, a pale dragon with feathered wings curls a full circle around a rearing white unicorn; below them a blue vortex swirls like a whirlpool of stars, and opal moons rise over both shoulders. It's a winter palette from hood to hem: ice, teal and deep night blue.

What a cloak brings to the mountain: micro-mink poly outer at a listed 200 g/m², ultra-soft fluffy microfiber fleece lining with black or white faux fur, a double zipper, heavy drawstrings, and four pockets (two deep side pockets, two interior stash pockets, one zippered). Unisex fit, XS–5XL. Gehtdir's review on its page says it best: "Perfect fit in size and style. Such a special piece of fashion and art Very comfy and warming on the skin" (September 2023). The design stars in our story The Name Before Sunrise.

Fire on the snow: Liquid Fire

Liquid Fire women's festival cloak worn hood up at a festival: molten swirls of orange, scarlet, gold and violet threaded with black

If Blue Sorceress is the glacier, the Liquid Fire Women's Festival Cloak ($250) is the fireplace: orange, scarlet and gold pour through each other with ribbons of violet and black, like lava marbled into stained glass. Same build, same four pockets, XS–5XL: fire to go with the ice.

Still deciding whether a cloak earns its space in the ski bag? Are Festival Cloaks Worth It? weighs the warmth, the pockets and the price, and makes the full case.

The chalet layer: a hooded blanket

Ski weeks have a quiet side: balcony breakfasts, slow afternoons, cards before the evening session. The Solar Eclipse Hooded Blanket ($150) is built for those hours. A black disc in a ring of orange fire rides between the shoulders, flanked by two smaller eclipsed moons throwing gold flares; beneath it a white Flower of Life glows inside a looping gold orbit, with teal and amber scrollwork running to the hem over black threaded with silver. It's 300 g/m² fleece with a cat-ear hood, front quarter zip and oversize front pocket, one size (4XL), and its listing names "chilly rave nights, camping festivals, travel" as home turf. More in our hooded blanket guide.

What do you wear to an après-ski party?

Wear something warm, soft and easy to move in, because après runs from slope-side terraces into crowded bars. A crushed velvet hoodie with fleece-lined joggers or leggings works from the last run to the late set, with a cloak over the top for the walk between venues and a snapback for the sunny terrace.

At a festival, après has one rule worth keeping: arrive in ski kit, leave in art.

Back of the Mechanical Kraken crushed velvet hoodie, worn at a festival: a silver mechanical kraken with teal eyes, coiling tentacles and two violet jellyfish

The Mechanical Kraken Crushed Velvet Pullover Hoodie ($100) carries the deep sea up the mountain: a silver mechanical kraken with teal eyes spreads its tentacles across the shoulders, violet jellyfish drift at the ribs, and a spire of silver machinery rises toward the hood. It's 240 g/m² crushed velvet with a drawstring hood and kangaroo pocket, S–2XL.

Metallic Blue Fractal joggers worn at a festival: cobalt and royal-blue fractal swirls veined with violet, cuffed at the ankle

Underneath, the Metallic Blue Fractal joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL) swirl cobalt and royal blue with violet veining. They have a cotton-feel face, brushed vegan fleece inside, cuffed ankles, side pockets and an elastic waist with a drawstring. Slim fit, XS–3XL. This design dresses a ski-town house festival in our story Frost on Steel.

Liquified Abyss women's yoga leggings worn at a festival: deep teal and indigo currents with curls of magenta and tangerine

Prefer leggings? The Liquified Abyss Women's Yoga Leggings ($70) pour deep teal and indigo currents down the leg, with curls of magenta and tangerine rising through them. They're 225 g/m² microfiber with four-way stretch the listing describes as "full coverage when you bend" and a raised waistband, in XS–XL.

Alien Dimensions snapback hat worn at a festival: big-eyed blue alien heads swimming through lavender and violet swirls, with a fine-line Flower of Life

For the terrace, the Alien Dimensions Snapback Hat ($40) sets big-eyed blue alien heads swimming through lavender and violet swirls, with a fine-line Flower of Life near the front. The listing calls its 150 g/m² poly "durable, lightweight, breathable," and the adjustable back fits most heads.

Back home, our winter rave outfit guide and the coldest music festivals in North America carry these layers stateside, and Snowed In takes a lodge rave into a blizzard.

Sizing, shipping and your order-by date

  • Room for the mid-layer. Outerwear goes over ski thermals, so our FAQ points you bigger, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under." The joggers are cut slim, and 1–2 sizes up loosens them.
  • One print run, one owner. Pieces are printed and sewn after you order, so sales are final (EU buyers get a 14-day cooling-off window on unused, tagged pieces). Size questions go to art@magusfawn.com; answers usually come back inside 1–2 business days.
  • Lift-pass math for US addresses. Production takes 7–11 business days and delivery 6–14. Order by Thursday, January 28, 2027, and even if making and mailing both take their full time, your parcel lands by Friday, March 5, ahead of all three spring festivals. Rise opens December 5, inside that longest window from early November, so plan new pieces for spring or for Rise 2027.
  • Shipping to Europe? International shipping starts at $10 (shipping policy). US orders ship free from $70.

The mountains keep the coldest hours for the best music. Bring a cloak worth the climb.

Pack the chalet suitcase: men's cloaks · women's cloaks · hooded blankets · crushed velvet · joggers · snapbacks

Frequently asked questions

What does après-ski mean?

Après-ski is French for "after skiing," and it means the entertainment, nightlife and social events at ski resorts once the slopes wind down. The tradition began in the Alps, where skiers often stop at bars on their last run while still in ski gear. At a ski festival, après is when the DJs take over.

Why does the sun feel stronger on a ski slope?

Altitude adds UV. The US EPA says UV intensity rises about 6% for every kilometer above sea level, so an Alpine village at 1,850 m gets roughly a tenth more than the coast, and clear skies let nearly all of it through. Wear sunscreen and sunglasses for afternoon sets, then swap the shades for a hood after dark.

When is ski festival season in the Alps?

The Alpine ski festival season runs from December to April. For 2026–27, Rise opens it in Les Deux Alpes on December 5, Snowboxx and Tomorrowland Winter fill back-to-back March weeks in Avoriaz and Alpe d'Huez, and Snowbombing closes it in Mayrhofen, Austria, on April 5–10, 2027.
