Music Festivals in Missouri 2027: Crystal-Creek Campouts, Grand Center Stages and a Free Kansas City Folk Day

|Magus Fawn

Druzy quartz turns up in the creek at Astral Valley Art Park, more than 700 acres in the St. Francois Mountains about 45 minutes south of St. Louis. Cosmic Kinection camped there in June 2026; Nocturnal Valley returns in September.

Beyond the valley, Missouri's calendar is just as varied: a plastic-free Saturday in Springfield, a Burning Man regional in Pulaski County, a free folk day in a Kansas City park and an arts-district takeover in St. Louis. Dates and TBAs below come from each organizer's page on October 30, 2026; the outfit notes are ours, from the Los Angeles artists who design every print.

Missouri's festival year, from Earth Day to the equinox

Earth Day Music Fest (April 24), MATI (July 15–18) and Nocturnal Valley (September 23–25) are already on the 2027 calendar. For InterFuse, the Kansas City Folk Festival and Cosmic Kinection, the table gives the usual month or the 2026 date until their organizers post 2027's.

Festival Grounds 2027 dates Night low, NOAA monthly normal Organizer's site
Earth Day Music Fest Jordan Valley Park, Springfield April 24 45.6°F, April (Springfield) earthdayspringfieldmo.org

Our Midwest festival guide picks up north and east of here, from Minnesota to Ohio, and the calendar we keep for 2027 gives 66 festivals a night low apiece.

Astral Valley: springs, caves and two campouts in the St. Francois Mountains

The park is open year-round for camping and climbing, with three caves and three springs that feed its creek.

Cosmic Kinection: workshops, giant puppets and a crystal creek (2027 dates TBA)

Cosmic Kinection, a collaboration between the fire and aerial troupe ReKinection and the park, ran June 4–7, 2026; its 2027 dates are still TBA. That edition listed four stages, more than 120 workshops, yoga, live painters, gifting culture and the Astral Gypsies' giant puppets. It's all ages, kids 11 and under went free in 2026, and weekend tickets included creekside, forest or meadow camping.

Outfit note: St. Louis averages 85.9°F by day and 67.2°F at night in June. Wear the green cap to the creek and save a long-sleeve layer for the bonfire jams.

Nocturnal Valley: an 18+ weekend in the same valley (September 23–25)

Downright Entertainment marked ten years with the 2026 Nocturnal Valley, and the festival returns to Astral Valley on September 23–25, 2027. Its site still describes the 2026 edition: multiple stages, immersive production and art, on-site camping and an adults-only gate with valid ID.

Outfit note: Lambert, about 55 miles north of the valley, averages 60.9°F on September nights. Zip the Celestial Temple cloak.

Across the Arkansas line, Wakaan's fall bass weekend has its own outfit guide.

St. Louis and Kansas City: an arts district and a park lawn

MATI: eight main stages in Grand Center (July 15–18)

MATI, short for Music at the Intersection, returns to the Grand Center Arts District on July 15–18, 2027, for its seventh year. Powell Hall and The Sheldon join the Fabulous Fox, The Sovereign and Jazz St. Louis as ticketed indoor rooms, while The Big Top, a mobile Wash Ave Stage and the Counterpublic Performance Green Stage are free. Artists and tickets arrive in spring 2027.

Outfit note: July is St. Louis's warmest month, 89.6°F by day and 71.1°F at night. The phoenix sleeveless hoodie carries you between venues.

Kansas City Folk Festival: a free day in Washington Square Park (2027 date TBA)

The Kansas City Folk Festival is a free, all-day city festival of song, poetry, dance, storytelling, local art, workshops and a craft market. Folk Alliance International hosted it first; since January 2022 it has run as its own nonprofit. The 2026 edition filled Washington Square Park on May 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the site steers visitors to the free KC Streetcar and a free bike valet.

Outfit note: the 2026 day wrapped at 7 p.m., so this is a cloak-free festival. The Purple Marble tee and the green cap cover a long day on the lawn.

Springfield and Pulaski County: an Earth Day fundraiser and a May burn

Earth Day Music Fest: plastic-free in Jordan Valley Park (April 24)

Earth Day Music Fest lands on the Saturday closest to Earth Day, which in 2027 is April 24, in Springfield's Jordan Valley Park. The one-day ticketed festival goes without plastic, and all ticket proceeds go to local environmental groups; the 2026 beneficiary was the Ozark Land Trust. Its 2027 artist page names folk band Rising Appalachia as headliner.

Outfit note: Springfield's April averages run 68.4°F in the afternoon and 45.6°F at night, so a tee and cap suit the day.

InterFuse: Missouri's Burning Man regional (2027 dates TBA)

InterFuse is the four-day regional burn of Midwest Burners, a Kansas City-based group, held each May at the Fort Leonard Wood Shrine Club in Laquey. The 2027 theme, picked by community vote, is Monster Mash, and effigy ideas were invited in August 2026. Under-18s come with a parent or legal guardian, tickets are never sold at the gate, vending isn't allowed, and once you have your wristband, leaving means leaving for the weekend.

Outfit note: Springfield, the nearer of our two stations at about 70 miles from Laquey, averages 55.6°F on May nights. Pack the Mystical Egypt cloak and our hooded blanket.

Lambert against Springfield in the festival months

Afternoons in the two cities barely differ: in all five festival months their normal highs sit within 0.8°F, and both reach 89.6°F in July. Springfield's nights run cooler, though, by 1.4°F in April and 2.6°F in June, and its July day-to-night drop is 20.8 degrees against St. Louis's 18.5.

Month St. Louis high / low Springfield high / low
April 68.0°F / 47.0°F 68.4°F / 45.6°F
May 77.1°F / 57.9°F 76.3°F / 55.6°F
June 85.9°F / 67.2°F 85.2°F / 64.6°F
July 89.6°F / 71.1°F 89.6°F / 68.8°F
September 81.1°F / 60.9°F 81.4°F / 59.1°F

Lambert sits northwest of downtown St. Louis, so treat its lows as a guide for the valley; Kansas City, about 140 miles from Springfield, borrows its May column as a stand-in.

Our Missouri cloaks: a temple in indigo, glyphs in gold

Woman with a braided updo, a jeweled headpiece and violet-tinted aviators in the Celestial Temple women's cloak, zipped, hands in pockets, metallic purple knee boots: gold linework, a chest triangle, blue lightning on indigo, spheres at the hem

A temple for the valley. The Celestial Temple women's cloak ($250) draws its architecture in thin gold lines on indigo. A tall triangle opens at the chest, rings and a looping knot sit below it, and a bolt of electric blue splits the violet sky across the middle. Small teal and green orbs dot both front panels, and green-and-blue globes sit at both corners of the hem over a band of gold lettering. Wear it zipped for Nocturnal Valley or open over a bodysuit at Cosmic Kinection. In our story Palette Nine, a lighting designer wears this cloak through fifty stalled minutes at the top of a fairground Ferris wheel.

Man with shoulder-length locs and gold aviators in the Mystical Egypt men's cloak, zipped, hood up, over brown patchwork trousers: gold glyph columns and robed figures on black, violet medallions at the cuffs and hem

Gold for the burn. The Mystical Egypt men's festival cloak ($250) runs columns of gold signs on black down either side of the zipper: ankhs, arrows, small crosses and looped symbols stacked like carved stone. Robed figures holding staffs stand on the side panels beside a pyramid, and violet medallions sit at the shoulder, the cuffs and the hem, the lower ones with blue centers. It's our pick for InterFuse's May nights in Pulaski County.

Our cloaks are micro-mink, 200 g/m², with a faux-fur lining: pick black or white. Heavy cords gather the hood above a double front zipper. Pockets: a deep pair outside, and an inside pair with a zip on one. Sizes run XS–5XL, unisex; our FAQ advises one size up for layers, two over a hoodie.

Man with wavy brown hair, seen from behind facing a festival stage, in the Golden Phoenix men's sleeveless hoodie: a phoenix in bronze and gold with teal flame plumes, wings fading to violet, blue and magenta, a green medallion and gold spires on black

Bronze wings for a St. Louis July. Seen from behind, the Golden Phoenix men's sleeveless hoodie ($75) spreads a bronze-gold firebird across black: teal flame plumes at the shoulders, wing feathers that fade into violet, blue and magenta, and a glowing green medallion at its heart, with gold spires rising from the hem. A pale lattice trims the hood. The jersey runs 180 g/m², 95/5 polyester and spandex, and the regular fit goes from S to 2XL.

Man with dark shoulder-length curls, mirrored aviators and stacked woven bracelets in the Purple Marble crushed velvet t-shirt before a festival stage: electric violet, deep plum, lavender, silver-gray and white marbled swirls

Deep purple in motion. The Purple Marble crushed velvet t-shirt ($60) folds bands of electric violet and deep plum through silver-gray and white, the way paint marbles on water. That $60 buys crushed velvet, 240 g/m²; the same print comes on poly jersey for $50 or cotton for $60, every version XS–5XL with a crew neck.

Woman with long light-brown waves, pink and teal braids, magenta eye shadow and silver glitter in the Angel Catcher Light Green snapback hat: a pale-green Flower of Life in a hexagon, lime feathered wings, small pink starbursts, black brim

Ozark green, overhead. The Angel Catcher Light Green snapback hat ($40) is all fern and lime. A pale-green Flower of Life sits inside a hexagon on the front panel, feathered wings spread to either side, and small pink starbursts scatter across the crown. The flat black brim carries a faint gray lattice. A snap strap fits most heads, and the crown's 150 g/m² polyester stays light for Jordan Valley Park in April or the creek at Cosmic Kinection.

Our hooded blanket at InterFuse and Astral Valley camps

Both Astral Valley festivals let you camp on the grounds, and InterFuse allows no vending, so camp comfort rides in your car. Our hooded blanket ($150) earns its trunk space: a pullover blanket cut as one big 4XL from 300 g/m² fleece that's all polyester, with an oversized pocket up front, a quarter-zip neck and cat ears on top of the hood.

Quartz in the creek, from June to September

On a June afternoon at Astral Valley, someone crouches in the spring-fed creek and tilts a druzy stone until it flashes. By late September the same water runs past an 18+ campground after dark. For trips past the state line, these are the 2027 festivals we'd plan a year around.

More indigo, gold and Ozark green: women's cloaks · men's cloaks · sleeveless hoodies · crushed velvet · snapback hats

Frequently asked questions

What is druzy quartz, and where does it turn up at Astral Valley?

Druzy is a crust of tiny quartz crystals coating a stone. Astral Valley Art Park says druzy quartz infuses its ground and is often found in the creek and along trails through the St. Francois Mountains. The park, more than 700 acres, also has three springs and three caves open year-round, with day use at $5 a person.

How does Earth Day Music Fest stay plastic-free?

It runs as a leave-no-trace event. Food comes in compostable or recyclable containers, hydration stations refill the water bottles guests bring, and local businesses sell sustainably made goods at their booths. Ticket proceeds go to local environmental groups, and the festival has raised more than $111,000 for them. The 2027 festival is Saturday, April 24, in Springfield's Jordan Valley Park.

Which MATI stages are free in 2027?

Three community block-party stages: The Big Top, a mobile Wash Ave Stage and the Counterpublic Performance Green Stage. Powell Hall, The Sheldon, the Fabulous Fox, The Sovereign and Jazz St. Louis are ticketed indoor rooms. MATI runs July 15–18, 2027, across St. Louis's Grand Center Arts District, with artists announced in spring.

How did InterFuse choose its 2027 theme?

By community vote. Midwest Burners collected theme submissions in early summer 2026, opened the vote in July, and on August 20 announced the winner: Monster Mash. The same note invited suggestions for the effigy, the centerpiece everyone builds and sends off together. InterFuse is a four-day, all-ages regional burn held each May in Laquey.
