Festival Clothes for Tall and Big-and-Tall Ravers: Real Size Charts

|Magus Fawn

At the sunrise set, the tall raver at the back of the crowd sees it first: the sky going from plum to gold over every head in the field.

Tall ravers get the best view in the house all night long: the whole stage, the lasers, friends easy to spot across the field. They also know the long stretch at the end of the night, when a hoodie that looked right in the mirror rides up past the waistband. The answer lives in a tape measure.

Big and tall are two separate measurements, and a size label blends them together. A 3XL buys width. It may or may not buy length. Below are the real garment numbers from the size charts we've started printing on Magus Fawn product pages, a way to measure clothes you already love, and a piece-by-piece look at where the length lives. (That's us, Magus and Lylyth Fawn, the artists behind every print.) We start with the garment that takes care of length on its own: the cloak.

What festival clothes work best for tall ravers?

A man at a golden-hour festival under kaleidoscope kites and banners, wearing the Mechanical Kraken men's festival cloak zipped with the hood up: silver and violet tentacles with teal glints on black, over black strapped cargo pants and brown lace-up boots

Long silhouettes work best, because their length is the design. A Magus Fawn festival cloak and our chiffon kimono are the longest pieces on our charts, and the cloak gains front length with every size. Add joggers with a published side length and tops with a real torso length, and a tall outfit comes together from shoulder to cuff.

Tall ravers have been asking for years. On Reddit, an r/ElectricForest thread titled "Tall guy rave clothes: aside from shorts, do they exist?" drew 30 comments. In r/aves, "Rave clothing for big boys" drew 32, "ISO rave clothing for big and tall" drew 9, and a "sizing help" thread about reading a size chart drew 10. The same words keep surfacing: big and tall, long rave pants, and 36x36, the jeans shorthand for a 36-inch waist and a 36-inch inseam.

A cloak answers most of that at once. It hangs from the shoulders, so there's no waistband to chase, and it grows longer as it grows bigger.

The Mechanical Kraken Men's Festival Cloak ($250) is our pick for tall frames. A kraken built of silver plating and filigree, part sea creature and part machine, fills the back, teal eyes glowing between the shoulders, tentacles curling down over a spired city that lights up ice blue along the hem. The legendary giant of the deep feels right on someone who stands a head above the crowd. It's faux-fur-lined in black or white under a micro-mink poly outer, with a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings, four pockets and a unisex fit from XS to 5XL.

How do you read a size chart for festival clothes?

Read it as a description of the garment itself. Every Magus Fawn size chart is measured with the garment laid flat, and actual measurements may vary, so each number describes the fabric edge to edge. Width lines marked "1/2" are half the full measurement, as the label says, so double them before comparing with a garment of your own.

Where a product page has a chart, it sits just below the size and option buttons, in inches, centimeters or both. Here's the vocabulary:

  • Front length (cloaks): how far the cloak runs down the front.
  • Across chest, 1" below armhole (cloaks): the chest width, named on the chart exactly that way.
  • Side length (joggers): the pant's length taken along the side, as named on the chart.
  • 1/2 waist width (joggers, shorts): half the waist measurement, as the label says. Double it for the full waist.
  • Bust (tanks, polos, kimonos, the hooded blanket): the chest line on the chart. Not sure how to compare yours? Email us your garment's flat chest width.
  • Tolerance: each chart states its own: up to 1 inch on cloaks and joggers, 3 cm on athletic long shorts, and 5 cm on tanks, polos, kimonos and the hooded blanket.

Why trust a ruler over a label? Wikipedia's entry on vanity sizing notes that in the United States, "although clothing size standards exist (i.e., ASTM), most companies do not use them any longer," and cites Mintel research finding that men reporting different waistlines from store to store doubled between 2005 and 2011. An XL is a word. Forty-four inches of front length is a fact.

How do you measure clothes you already own to buy festival clothes online?

Lay your best-fitting piece flat, smooth it without stretching, and measure it flat, the way our charts are taken: length, width across the chest or waist, and sleeve or side length. Then hold those numbers against the Magus Fawn chart for the same garment type. Our FAQ says it plainly: "order the size of your favorite garment."

Ten minutes on a clean floor:

  1. Match like with like. A zip hoodie or jacket for a cloak, a tank for a tank, your favorite sweatpants for joggers.
  2. Lay it flat. Zip or button it closed, smooth out the wrinkles, and leave the fabric relaxed.
  3. Measure the length. For tops and cloaks, straight down the front to the hem. For pants, down the side to the hem. Note where you started, so we can compare like with like if you email us.
  4. Measure the width. Across the chest, or across the waistband, flat.
  5. Compare. If your numbers sit within the chart's tolerance of a size, you've found your twin. Note what you'd change: "two inches longer" beats "XL" as a shopping note.

What is the difference between big and tall sizing?

Big sizing adds width; tall sizing adds length, and most clothing grows far faster in width than in length as sizes climb. On Magus Fawn charts, our crushed velvet tank's bust line grows 28 inches from S to 5XL while its length adds 6.5. Read the length line first if you're tall, the width line first if you're big.

Here's how much each garment grows from its smallest size to its largest:

Garment (size run) Length grows by Width line on the chart Width line grows by
Festival cloak (XS–5XL) 8 in (front length) Across chest 8 in
Crushed velvet tank (S–5XL) 6.5 in Bust 28 in
Chiffon kimono (S–5XL) 2.6 in Bust 16 in
Joggers (XS–3XL) 2.2 in (side length) 1/2 waist width 7.75 in

Width lines differ by garment, exactly as each chart names them, so compare length and width within a row rather than across rows.

Two patterns stand out. The cloak's front length climbs a full inch with every size, matched only by the velvet polo, and its eight-inch climb from XS to 5XL is the biggest on our charts. Every other piece gains width much faster than length.

Big and tall at once? Choose the size that fits your widest measurement, then read the length line for that same size. For pieces that run to 6XL, our plus-size rave outfits guide lists our size ranges garment by garment.

Are festival cloaks long enough for tall men?

A smiling man in mirrored sunglasses at a sunny festival stage wearing the Chakra Mandala men's festival cloak zipped closed with the hood up: lace-fine mandalas in bands of red, orange, gold, green, blue and violet rising from hem to hood, with olive pants and black boots

Yes, and they grow longer as they grow bigger. A Magus Fawn festival cloak measures 40 inches down the front at XS and 48 inches at 5XL, adding an inch per size, with sleeves from 27.5 to 33.5 inches. Sizing up for layers, as our FAQ suggests, buys extra length along with the room.

In feet, the run goes from 3 ft 4 in to a full 4 ft; in centimeters, 101.5 to 122, as the chart's converted row shows.

That sizing-up advice is the tall raver's quiet advantage. Our FAQ suggests going up for outerwear, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under." On a cloak, two sizes up adds 2 inches of front length, 2 inches across the chest and 1.5 inches of sleeve. Width and length arrive together.

Long arms? Email us your favorite jacket's sleeve measurement and how you measured it, and we'll hold it against our chart. For hood depth, shoulder fit and what to wear underneath, our guide to rave cloaks for men goes deeper.

The Chakra Mandala Men's Festival Cloak ($250) climbs the body the way the chakras do. Lace-fine mandalas rise up a black ground in seven color bands, red at the hem through orange, gold, green and blue to violet on the hood: root to crown, read from the ground up. The longer the cloak, the more room each band gets to bloom. It's faux-fur-lined in black or white, with a micro-mink outer, heavy drawstrings and four pockets, in a unisex fit from XS to 5XL.

Will a one-size hooded blanket fit a big and tall body?

Usually, because it's cut oversized on purpose. The Magus Fawn hooded blanket is one size (4XL), and its chart reads 61 inches at the bust, 27 at the shoulder, 24 at the sleeve and 36 inches long. Lay a favorite hoodie flat, measure it, and those numbers show how much extra room you'll get.

One size takes the guesswork out of width, so length is the line to check: 36 inches, or 91 cm. Measure your longest hoodie down the front to the hem and compare. It's the camp layer of the family, the pullover you live in from the sunrise set to the first coffee, and our hooded blankets guide covers how festival people wear them.

A smiling blonde woman in mirrored sunglasses at a festival stage pulling up the cat-ear hood of the Temple of Sound hooded blanket, worn with black leggings: a haloed figure, a meditating figure and stacked speaker cones in violet, lavender and cream

The Hooded Blanket w/ Ears | Temple of Sound ($150) turns the soundsystem into sacred architecture. A crowned figure glows inside a golden sunburst above a figure in meditation, speaker cones stack up on either side like temple pillars, and a lavender web of Flower of Life rings holds it all together. Bass as a form of worship, worn as a blanket. It's 100% poly fleece at 300 g/m², an oversized pullover with a cat-ear hood, a front quarter zip and an oversized front pocket.

How do you check rave pants length before you buy?

Compare side lengths. Magus Fawn joggers measure 37.8 inches along the side at XS and 40 inches at 3XL, cut slim with cuffed ankles. Lay your favorite sweatpants flat, measure down the side to the hem, and if yours run longer, email us before you choose a size.

Most pant labels give an inseam instead, which Wikipedia defines as "the seam from the bottom crotch to the lower ankle." Our jogger chart gives side length, so measure your own pair along the side to keep the comparison on the same line. In centimeters, side length runs 96 to 102.

Each size up adds width much faster than length. Our listings suggest ordering 1–2 sizes up for a looser fit, and that's what a bigger size gives you: a roomier jogger more than a longer one.

The Joggers | Liquified Abyss ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL) run marbled currents of magenta, coral, gold and turquoise over deep navy down both legs. It's the deep ocean lit from within, the abyss with the lights on. They're a 308 g/m² knit of 96% recycled poly and 4% elastane, with a cotton-feel face, brushed vegan fleece inside, side pockets, cuffed legs and an elastic waistband with a drawstring, slim fit from XS to 3XL.

Do kimonos work as festival clothes for tall people?

Beautifully, because a kimono's length is its whole silhouette. The Magus Fawn chiffon kimono measures 52.4 inches long at S and 55 inches at 5XL, with sleeves from 24.4 to 27 inches. On a tall frame it falls as a long, open, moving layer, and an adjustable belt lets you wear it open or tied.

Fifty-five inches is 4 ft 7 in, or 140 cm. Because length changes little across the run, choose your kimono by its bust and shoulder line (37.5 to 53.5 inches and 15.3 to 19.5 inches) and enjoy the long fall at any size. Guys wear them too: our men's rave outfits guide shows how a kimono fits into a house set at golden hour.

A woman with long braids and sunglasses glancing over her shoulder at a sunlit festival, wearing the Egyptian Atlantis chiffon kimono open over a navy one-piece with printed platform knee boots: gold and bronze Egyptian motifs on deep navy falling to her ankles

The Chiffon Kimono | Egyptian Atlantis ($75) covers deep navy in gold and bronze: watchful eyes, ringed medallions, bands of glyphs, temple columns, pyramids and a reclining sphinx near the hem. Picture a temple wall from a drowned city, lit gold at sunset. It's featherweight 80 g/m² chiffon in 100% poly, with long cuffed sleeves, an adjustable belt and a draped hem, in a regular fit from S to 5XL.

What tops are long enough for tall ravers?

Tops with a published length. Magus Fawn crushed velvet tanks run 28 to 34.5 inches long from S to 5XL, velvet polos 28 to 35 inches, and crushed velvet hoodies 26.5 to 30 inches from S to 2XL. Find a top that stays past your waistband with your arms up, measure its length flat, then match that number.

Here's every length on our charts in one place:

Garment Length line on the chart Smallest size Largest size
Chiffon kimono Length 52.4 in (S) 55 in (5XL)
Festival cloak Front length 40 in (XS) 48 in (5XL)
Joggers Side length 37.8 in (XS) 40 in (3XL)
Hooded blanket Length 36 in (one size) 36 in (one size)
Crushed velvet polo Length 28 in (S) 35 in (5XL)
Crushed velvet tank Length 28 in (S) 34.5 in (5XL)
Crushed velvet hoodie Length 26.5 in (S) 30 in (2XL)
Cotton sleeveless hoodie Length 63 cm (24.75 in) (XS) 76 cm (30 in) (5XL)
Athletic long shorts Inseam 15.5 cm (6 in) (2XS) 16 cm (6.25 in) (6XL)

Measured with the garment laid flat; actual measurements may vary within each chart's stated tolerance. Inch figures for the shorts and sleeveless hoodie are the converted rows printed on our product pages.

Our cotton pullover hoodie runs XS to 6XL; its chart isn't posted yet, so email us for its numbers. For a big frame, the tank's bust line climbs from 36 to 64 inches; email us your favorite tank's flat chest width and we'll compare it for you. Love shorts? The size run is all about the waist: the inseam holds at 16 cm (6.25 in) from XS to 6XL.

The Crushed Velvet Tank Top | Golden Phoenix ($60) opens gold and teal feathers into violet and blue wings around a green mandala on black. The phoenix rises from its own ashes, which makes it the right bird for your second wind at 2 a.m. It's crushed velvet, 95% poly and 5% spandex at 240 g/m², sleeveless, in a regular fit from S to 5XL.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure for clothes online before a festival?

Start with a garment that already fits you well. Lay it flat, smooth it without stretching, and measure its length and width the way our charts are taken, laid flat. Then compare those numbers with the Magus Fawn chart for the same garment type. Our FAQ recommends ordering the size of your favorite garment.

Does sizing up make festival clothes longer?

It depends on the garment. A Magus Fawn festival cloak gains front length with every size, so sizing up for layers adds length too. Our joggers, velvet tanks and kimonos gain far more width than length as sizes climb, and our athletic long shorts keep the same inseam from XS to 6XL, so sizing up there mostly adds room.

Where is the size chart on a Magus Fawn product page?

Just below the size and option buttons, on product pages that carry one. Magus Fawn charts list garment measurements, such as front length, side length, bust and half waist width, measured with the garment laid flat, in inches, centimeters or both. Each chart notes its own tolerance, from 1 inch on cloaks and joggers to 5 cm on tanks.

Can Magus Fawn make a garment longer or in a custom size?

Magus Fawn offers the sizes listed on each product page, and many pieces go up to 5XL. For anything beyond that, our FAQ says: "For special requests, feel free to email us at art@magusfawn.com and we'll let you know what's possible." Send your measurements, and we typically respond within 1–2 business days.

What should a big and tall raver wear to a festival?

Start with a long silhouette chosen by your widest measurement: a Magus Fawn festival cloak, which gains length with every size, or a chiffon kimono, the longest piece on our charts. Add joggers chosen by waist, then check each chart's length line, and email us your measurements if you fall between sizes.
