At 3 a.m. the temperature drops right on schedule, and every guy on the dance floor finds out what he packed.
The lasers have slowed from green strobes to a violet sweep, and the field smells like dust and cold grass. The guy who arrived at sunset in a tank top is doing a hopeful little shuffle toward the fire barrel. Love that guy. Lend that guy a hoodie. Beside you, your friend unzips his bag, pulls on crushed velvet, flips the hood up and goes straight back to the drop like the night just restarted.
He isn't tougher. He dressed for the whole night instead of the first three hours.
That's the real secret of a great men's rave outfit: pants you can dance in for six hours, one piece of art, pockets for the essentials and a warm layer waiting for the second act. Below, we dress you by genre, then by temperature, then piece by piece.
We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists. We design every print we sell, Magus produces Psy EDM, and our life orbits these dance floors.
What does a good men's rave outfit look like?
A good men's rave outfit has four parts: bottoms you can dance in for six hours, one piece of art that carries the look, pockets for your phone, earplugs and ID, and a warm layer for after midnight. At Magus Fawn we put the print in one place, keep the rest simple and dress for 3 a.m.
Pick your print zone. Decide where the art lives: your head (a hat), your chest (a tee, hoodie or kimono), your legs (joggers, shorts or lantern pants) or everywhere in one design, so it reads as a set. Keep the rest black or one solid color.
Run the pocket audit. Load everything onto your body before you leave: phone, ID, card, lip balm and earplugs. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders puts concerts at 94–110 decibels, so earplugs earn a front-row pocket. A cloak's zippered inside pocket beats a back pocket in any crowd.
Rave outfits for guys, genre by genre
The lineup tells you the dress code. Here's the men's formula for each scene and the Magus Fawn piece we'd build it around.
Techno: black on black, with one detail for the strobe
Techno grew up in Detroit and Berlin, and its floors still dress dark and utilitarian: black tees, cargo pants, boots, silver hardware and sunglasses at night. At Movement, Detroit's techno homecoming at Hart Plaza every Memorial Day weekend, nights run 50–60°F.
The formula: black tee, utility shorts or cargos, boots, one quiet print.
The Cosmic Cross Silver unisex cotton shorts ($65, S–5XL) carry ornate silver-grey and lilac filigree on black, like ironwork on a cathedral door. Black from across the warehouse, intricate under the strobe. (Read the techno story behind the design: Fifty-Two Minutes to Doors.)
House: sun-washed color and a kimono for golden hour

House is groove over drops, and its guys dress like the sun never set: open shirts, linen, bucket hats, vintage sunglasses, then a kimono at golden hour. At CRSSD on San Diego's waterfront, marine air cools the nights to 55–62°F.
The formula: tank or open shirt, shorts, a kimono, a bucket hat.
The Mechanical Kraken chiffon kimono ($75, S–5XL) is dark slate biomechanical filigree in pale teal and sand, half sea creature and half machine.
Trance: shimmer, kandi and a little starlight

Trance is the euphoric one: hands up for the breakdown, fan flags waving, kandi traded with a PLUR handshake. Guys at Dreamstate SoCal, on the Queen Mary waterfront in Long Beach each November, wear iridescent pieces, LED gloves and a flag tied as a cape.
The formula: something that shines, black joggers, kandi on both wrists, a flag cape.
Crushed velvet throws every laser back as a scatter of sparks. The Celestial Temple crushed velvet T-shirt ($60, XS–5XL, 240 g/m²) sets teal, violet and gold temple geometry against midnight indigo, a sanctuary built for the moment the breakdown lifts.
Psytrance: lantern pants and art you can stare into
Psytrance grew out of the Goa beach parties of the 1990s and still runs fast, around 140–150 BPM, with sunrise as the true headliner. Guys on a psy floor wear mandala and fractal prints, harem pants, pixie hoods and dusty boots.
The formula: loose printed pants, a fitted tank, a hooded layer for the coldest hour before sunrise.
The Enochian Vision men's lantern pants ($80, XS–4XL) read like an illuminated grimoire: gold and teal occult imagery on black, panels of angelic script, an open book and a carved altar, drawn from the angelic visions John Dee and Edward Kelley recorded in the 1580s. More in Enochian Vision Magick.
Bass: the hoodie-and-joggers uniform, plus a shrine to the speaker stack

Bass is where the classic men's rave uniform lives: an oversized hoodie, joggers, chunky sneakers, a hydration pack and a bandana for dust. Totems rise over the crowd at Lost Lands and Wakaan while the rail riders headbang up front.
The formula: printed tee, joggers, a hoodie tied at the waist, a bandana.
The Temple of Sound cotton T-shirt ($60, 100% cotton, 190 g/m², XS–5XL) is a symmetrical temple in lavender, violet and slate, its walls made of speaker cones and eye shapes around a glowing altar. Wear it to the bass stage and you're wearing the building. (Read the soundsystem story it stars in: Play for the Floor.)
How should guys dress for a rave by temperature?
Dress for the coldest hour, not the warmest. Magus Fawn's men's temperature ladder: above 70°F, a tank or tee with shorts; in the 60s, add a light layer; in the 50s, a hoodie and brushed-fleece joggers; in the 40s and below, add a faux-fur-lined cloak. Check the event's typical night low, then pack one rung colder.
| Typical night low | Where you'll feel it | The men's formula |
|---|---|---|
| 70°F and up | EDC Las Vegas (70–80°F) | Tank or sleeveless hoodie, shorts, bucket hat, a kimono for the sun |
| The 60s | HARD Summer (around 65°F), Day Trip on the Long Beach waterfront (60s) | Tee or velvet tee, shorts or lantern pants, a kimono or cotton hoodie at the waist |
| The 50s | Movement (50–60°F), Dreamstate (50–55°F), Lost Lands (50s, sometimes 40s) | Tee, hoodie, brushed-fleece joggers, broken-in sneakers |
| The 40s and below | Countdown NYE (40–45°F), Wakaan and Shambhala (45–55°F), Gem & Jam (35–45°F) | Joggers, hoodie, faux-fur-lined cloak, hood up |
Burning Man lives on the top rung too: the Burning Man Survival Guide says playa lows can fall into the 40s °F, with pre-dawn temperatures approaching freezing.
Even the warmest rung has a plot twist: at EDC Las Vegas, the desert wind can feel cool around 4 a.m. The Electric Dragonscape men's sleeveless hoodie ($75, 95/5 jersey, 180 g/m², S–2XL) carries an ice-blue, cobalt and white crystalline dragon in faceted, electric scales. Arms free for the drop, hood up for the breeze.
Why do so many guys wear joggers to raves?
Joggers do three jobs at once. They move like sweatpants on the dance floor, their cuffed ankles stay clear of dust and boots, and side pockets carry the essentials. Magus Fawn rave joggers add brushed vegan fleece inside, so one pair of pants takes you from the 9 p.m. opener to the walk back at dawn.

Ours are 96% recycled poly and 4% elastane with a cotton-feel face and a listed fabric weight of 308 g/m², cut slim in XS–3XL. For the baggy look the bass floor loves, order one or two sizes up.
The Forest Wizard Red joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL) carry our Forest Wizard art in crimson and black, silver vines curling down each leg like a spellbook's margins. Let them be your whole print zone and keep the top black.
Crushed velvet or cotton: which hoodie should a guy bring?
Bring crushed velvet for the dance floor and cotton for the long cool hours around it. A Magus Fawn crushed velvet hoodie is 240 g/m² with 5% spandex and catches stage light. Our cotton hoodie is 100% cotton at 310 g/m², printed with cotton dye sublimation, in sizes up to 6XL.

The velvet: the Crimson Fenrir crushed velvet pullover hoodie ($100, S–2XL) has a drawstring hood and a kangaroo pocket. Crimson Fenrir is our newest design: a black wolf rising out of crimson smoke. Fenrir is the giant wolf of Norse myth, and he was born for a Halloween rave. (Read his story: The Ribbon and the Wolf.)
The cotton: the Dream Weaver cotton unisex pullover hoodie ($100, XS–6XL, relaxed regular fit) weaves cobalt, ice-blue and violet crystal filigree around a mirrored feline face, a guardian for the long hours off the floor. Traditional dye sublimation only bonds to polyester; this print runs through a new cotton dye-sublimation process from our cut-and-sew partners. Expect 3–5% shrinkage after the first wash, so wash it cold and air dry.

Do men wear cloaks to festivals?
Yes, and on a cold night a hooded cloak is one of the boldest men's looks on the floor. Every Magus Fawn festival cloak, men's or women's, shares one unisex build: micro-mink outer, faux-fur fleece lining, double front zipper and four pockets, XS–5XL. Depending on the print, it reads as wizard, techno monk or desert nomad.

The lining is ultra-soft fluffy microfiber fleece in black or white faux fur, with a listed fabric weight of 200 g/m², and heavy drawstrings cinch the hood. The pockets: two deep side pockets for your hands and two interior stash pockets, one zippered, for phone and cash. Every cloak is $250. Wear it open on the floor and zip it for the walk back to camp. Our FAQ suggests sizing up for outerwear, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under," and our cloak buyer's guide covers the rest.
For the sunrise crew: the Sacred Grounds men's festival cloak sets a golden meditating figure inside a radiant gold halo on black, with flame-red wings and an ornate mandala below. Nicholas, reviewing a Sacred Grounds cloak in December 2023, wrote: "First cloak ever. Super comfortable and warm. Fell asleep with it on. Kept me warm all night." (Read the desert dawn story: Sacred Grounds: A Dawn Coffee Camp Story.)
For the techno monk: the Void Mandala men's festival cloak tiles charcoal and black mandalas tone on tone. A long black silhouette from the bar, hypnotic up close: the cloak for a black-only dress code.
Which hat should a guy wear to a rave?
Wear a snapback when you want a hat that holds pins and tells people your aesthetic; wear a bucket hat for shade at a day party and a soft brim in the crowd. Magus Fawn makes both in the same art as our clothing, so your hat can match your hoodie or be the one print in an all-black outfit.

The snapback: the Liquified Abyss snapback ($40, one size) swirls oil-slick marbling in violet, teal, magenta and gold, with a flat panel ready for a season of pins. Nearly 30 of our designs come as a snapback.
The bucket hat: the Lucid bucket hat ($50, XS–XL) swirls neon violet, magenta, orange and teal fractals, a lucid dream with a brim. It's the rave bucket hat for house day parties and bass afternoons. After midnight the hood takes over, which is why so many veterans end the night hat in pocket, hood up.

Frequently asked questions
Can guys wear a kimono to a rave?
Yes. A kimono is one of the easiest men's rave layers for warm nights and sunset sets, especially at house and psytrance events. Wear it open over a tank with shorts, and knot it around your waist when the floor heats up. Magus Fawn chiffon kimonos come in sizes S to 5XL.
What should a guy wear to his first rave?
Keep it simple and comfortable: broken-in sneakers, shorts or joggers with pockets, a black tee and one printed piece, like a hat or a hoodie. Add earplugs, a small bag that stays on your body and a warm layer for later. You'll look intentional and still be dancing when the sun comes up.
What colors should guys wear to a rave?
Match the genre. Techno floors lean black and silver, trance crowds wear pastels and electric blue, house goes earthy with sunset tones, and psytrance and bass crowds love bold mandala and fractal prints. If you're unsure, wear black with one colorful piece of art, and you'll fit in at almost any rave.
What sizes do men's festival cloaks come in?
Magus Fawn men's festival cloaks come in XS through 5XL with a unisex fit, the same build as our women's cloaks. To wear a hoodie underneath on cold nights, our FAQ suggests sizing up, sometimes even two sizes. Between sizes? Email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com and we'll help you choose.
