Escape Halloween Outfits 2027: Horror-Theme Rave Looks That Stay Warm at NOS

|Magus Fawn

A paper jack-o'-lantern glows on a car roof at the edge of the lot. Beside it, a crew is turning one of its own into a mummy, one strip of cream gauze at a time, and every gust unravels a little of their work. A vampire cape snaps out like a sail, and a pair of furry ears gets a last check in a side mirror.

Inside the gates, the halls of the NOS Events Center hum with bass, and the October air carries a cool edge that grows sharper after dark.

The best Escape Halloween outfits solve two things at once: a costume with a playful horror twist that can dance for hours, and a warm layer for San Bernardino nights, which typically settle around 50–55°F in late October.

Escape Halloween 2027 dates are TBA; the official Escape Halloween site currently lists the 2026 show, October 30 + 31 at NOS. As Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists and festival lifers, we'd haunt it with more fun than fright. Here's how.

Planning your Escape costume, from parking lot to dance floor

An Escape night moves from a cool parking lot to warm, packed dance floors and back out again, so the plan is a costume built on breathable pieces with one faux-fur-lined hooded layer over the top. Wear that layer in, open it on the floor, and zip it for the walk out.

Point in the night At the NOS Events Center What to wear
The line Entry search, cooling air Costume, cloak on, photo ID ready
The dance floors Crowds, lights, six stages in 2026 Velvet tee or bodysuit, joggers, a hat
Between stages Late-October night, about 50–55°F Cloak open, hood ready
The walk out The coolest stretch of the night Cloak zipped, hood up

NOS began in 1911 as a citrus exhibit and now spans more than 120 acres, with 150,000 square feet of indoor event space, per Escape's venue page. Comfortable shoes belong in the costume.

Which horror costumes can you dance in all night?

Back of the Crimson Fenrir crushed velvet tee at a festival main stage: a black wolf with glowing eyes rising out of crimson smoke on black velvet

Classic movie monsters translated into soft, stretchy pieces: a werewolf in a velvet tee, a vampire in black-and-silver joggers, a potion witch in a printed bodysuit, a jack-o'-lantern in an amber bucket hat. Let the print carry the character, add one accessory, and keep your face recognizable for the ID check at the gate.

Closet-built ideas live in our Halloween rave outfits guide. Here are four monsters made from Magus Fawn pieces.

The werewolf. The Crimson Fenrir crushed velvet tee ($60 in crushed velvet or cotton, $50 in poly jersey; XS–5XL) does the transformation for you: a black wolf with glowing orange-red eyes rises out of crimson smoke across the back, one clawed paw reaching forward, with a small crescent moon in a ring at the hem. The velvet is 95% poly and 5% spandex at 240 g/m², in a regular fit. Add fluffy ears. The wolf stars in a Halloween story, too: The Ribbon and the Wolf.

Mystic Eye joggers in black, silver and white: a winged eye, stacked flower-of-life orbs and silver knotwork fading to starry white cuffs

The vampire. Elegant, nocturnal and always in black and silver. The Mystic Eye joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL) set a winged eye near the hip above stacked flower-of-life orbs and silver knotwork with curling horns, scattered with stars that fade to white at the cuffs. They're 96% recycled poly and 4% elastane at 308 g/m², brushed fleece inside, slim fit in XS–3XL.

Woman in the Liquified Abyss V-neck bodysuit at a festival: liquid marbling in violet, cobalt, magenta, apricot and teal with gold flecks

The potion witch. The Liquified Abyss V-neck bodysuit ($55, XS–2XL) swirls violet, cobalt, magenta, apricot and teal with flecks of gold, like a cauldron caught mid-spell. It's 95/5 microfiber at 180 g/m², with a deep V-neck, an open back and a snap closure. Add a pointed hat and an LED potion bottle: the 2026 guidelines welcome glowing costumes and jewelry.

Molecular Space bucket hat tiled with amber, tangerine and cream clusters around pale star medallions, a pumpkin-colored festival hat

The jack-o'-lantern. The Molecular Space bucket hat ($50) tiles amber, tangerine and cream clusters around pale star medallions, the exact glow of a candlelit pumpkin. It's 100% poly at 275 g/m², in XS, S/M and L/XL. Wear it with an orange top and a big grin, and your crew can find you from the next stage.

What are the costume rules at Escape Halloween?

Escape's 2026 costume guidelines ask for a face that matches your photo ID, props that don't resemble weapons, and outfits that don't look like police, fire, security or medical uniforms. Handcuffs, glass or ceramic masks, whips, chains, ropes and sharp metal spikes stay home. Glowing, illuminated costumes are welcome.

The full list lives on Escape's hours and info page, and it points toward great costumes:

  • Makeup with your face still showing. The guidelines rule out "full-face makeup that makes you unrecognizable from your government-issued photo ID." Half-face paint, glitter brows, fangs and a dramatic lip all work.
  • Props that are clearly costume. Items "resembling weapon or weapon accessories, real or fictional" are out, so reach for fluffy werewolf paws, a witch's hat or a battery lantern. If you carry a light-up wand, pick any color but red, which is on the prohibited list.
  • Light it up. Glowsticks, "glowing/illuminated costumes or jewelry", LED hoops and lightweight totems up to 10 feet tall are on the welcome list.
  • Goggles over gas masks. Gas masks are on the prohibited list, so a mad-scientist or space-traveler look works best with goggles pushed up on your forehead.
  • Celebrate, don't borrow. Escape asks that costumes "not misrepresent race, religion, or cultural heritage." Movie monsters, fairy-tale creatures and your own inventions are endless.

Bags follow the same page: clear bags up to 12" x 6" x 12", or a small clutch up to 6" x 9". Re-check the 2027 list once it's posted, since guidelines can change from year to year.

How do you stay warm at Escape with no re-entry?

Man at a festival main stage in the Alien Dimensions men's festival cloak, worn open over a mesh top: big-eyed alien heads in lavender and teal

Wear your warm layer in from the start. Escape's FAQ says ins-and-outs aren't allowed, so a jacket left in the car stays there, and late-October nights in San Bernardino usually settle around 50–55°F. A faux-fur-lined hooded cloak over the costume, worn open on the dance floor, covers the line, the walks and the ride home.

Packed dance floors warm up fast; the line and the walk to the car feel coolest. Escape's lockers measure about 8" high, 12" wide and 18" deep, each with a phone charger. Blankets are on the prohibited list, so a cloak worn through the gate is the cozy choice. Our indoor rave guide covers warm halls and cool lots, and our night-warmth playbook builds layers from dusk to dawn.

The cloak, inside and out. One build runs through every Magus Fawn festival cloak: a micro-mink outer, an ultra-soft microfiber fleece lining in black or white faux fur (200 g/m²), a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings and four pockets, two deep side pockets plus two interior stash pockets, one of them zippered. Unisex fit, XS–5XL. Kevin, reviewing a Lunar Eclipse cloak in March 2025: "High quality, detailed build and design. Top notch. Super soft and warm."

The visitor from another world. The Alien Dimensions men's festival cloak ($250) gathers a crowd of big-eyed alien heads in lavender, teal and rose around one large lavender face on the back, with white flower-of-life circles and a gold five-pointed star near the hem, all drifting in navy and violet smoke. The aliens have a festival story, too: The Stranger at the Low-Water Crossing.

Woman before a festival stage in the Golden Scarab women's festival cloak, worn open over a violet bodysuit: gold winged motifs on black

The elegant night creature. The Golden Scarab women's festival cloak ($250) is black from hood to hem, with gold winged motifs at the chest and, across the back, a gold scarab spreading violet-and-gold wings beneath a glowing red-gold disc, framed by columns of gold glyphs. Read the myth behind the print: The Beetle Who Rolls the Sun.

What's the order-by date for an Escape Halloween 2027 costume?

Thursday, September 16, 2027. Your costume pieces come to life after checkout: production takes 7–11 business days and transit up to 14 more. At the slowest pace, a September 16 order reaches a US address by Friday, October 22, leaving a full week for fittings, ears and face paint before the last weekend of October.

  • Shipping in the US costs $8, or nothing at all once your order reaches $70.
  • Size for the werewolf fur. Going up a size on cloaks and hoodies is what our FAQ recommends, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under."
  • Final sale, friendly help. If you land between sizes, art@magusfawn.com will help you choose from your measurements, typically within 1–2 business days.

NOS keeps the party going all year: Countdown NYE brings an outer-space theme for New Year's Eve, and Beyond Wonderland fills the same grounds with Alice in Wonderland characters each spring. Heading east the weekend before? Our Hulaween costume ideas dress Florida's Spirit Lake woods.

Frequently asked questions

When is Escape Halloween 2027?

Watch for a late-October weekend. As of October 2026, Escape Halloween 2027 dates are TBA while the official site still lists this year's festival on October 30 and 31 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino. Sign up for updates there, and start planning your costume in late summer.

Is Escape Halloween 18+?

Yes, and the rule is firm: Escape's FAQ says no one under 18 gets into the venue, even with a guardian, and alcohol and VIP areas are 21+. The costume guidelines also ask that your face match your government-issued photo ID, so keep the makeup recognizable and bring the physical card; digital IDs, school IDs and photocopies aren't accepted.

What are the stages at Escape Halloween?

For 2026, Escape's stage guide names the Big Top, Feeding Grounds with its Parlor stage, the Warehouse, Sewer District and the Cage, each wrapped in the Psycho Circus storyline, and the home page counts six stages and more than 85 artists. The 2027 theme and stage names haven't been announced yet.

What time does Escape Halloween end?

In 2026, Escape's official hours ran from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. each night, with a separate afterparty from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. You can enter until an hour before the end of the event, and the show runs rain or shine, so carry your warm layer in with you.
