Halloween Rave Outfits 2026: Costume Ideas That Stay Warm Till Sunrise Banner with festival cloaks on a beautiful woman.

It's 6:40 p.m. on October 30, and your bedroom floor looks like a costume shop threw a party and stayed over.

A bathrobe is auditioning for wizard. A drawer of scarves is plotting a fortune teller. Under the bed, a striped shirt and one hoop earring are quietly assembling a pirate. Out in San Bernardino, the lot at the NOS Events Center is filling with ringmasters, devils and one very committed seven-foot moth, and the air is sliding toward 50 degrees.

Here's what every veteran knows about Halloween rave outfits: the best ones are mostly closet. One strong idea, a costume that still dances at 1 a.m., and a warm layer for the walk back to the car.

We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, visionary artists and festival lifers from Los Angeles. Everything we make is made to order, so a piece ordered today lands after Halloween. This guide does two jobs: rave costume ideas you can build tonight from what you already own, and the pieces worth planning now for next season's cold nights.

Every Halloween weekend you’ll find us at PsyTribe’s Freakshow. It’s one our favorites in Southern California, with carefully curated psytrance of epic proportions. From international psy trance superstars to local legendary artists, this 3 day annual festival is always one for the books!

What should I wear to Escape Halloween?

Wear a costume you can dance in for two nights, plus one warm layer you can take off fast. Escape Halloween runs October 30–31, 2026 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, where nights typically sit around 50–55°F. Magus Fawn's rule: dress for the theme on top, and for the parking lot underneath.

This year's theme is the Psycho Circus, with more than 85 artists across six stages, per the official Escape Halloween site. The music leans bass and techno. Commit to the bit, then make sure the bit can headbang. The circus hands you three closet costumes:

  • The ringmaster: a red blazer, black pants tucked into boots, a top hat if you own one, and a whistle you'll overuse.
  • The strongman: a striped tank, a drawn-on handlebar mustache and a foam barbell that doubles as your crew's totem.
  • The acrobat: a leotard over leggings, glitter and total freedom of movement.

Whatever you pick, choose a top layer that zips or ties open. The dance floor warms up once the crowd packs in; the line and the walk out stay cool.

What are easy rave costume ideas?

The easiest rave costume ideas are archetypes: a wizard, a fortune teller, an angel, a pirate. Each one reads from across a crowd, builds from clothes you already own, and leaves your arms free. Magus Fawn designs carry the same characters as wearable art, so tonight's closet costume can become next season's warm layer.

Enochian Vision Purple men's festival cloak worn hood up and held open, a violet pentagram, an eye, an open book and gold script on black and purple, a wizard Halloween rave costume

The wizard. Tonight: a dark bathrobe, a belt, a walking stick and a hardcover book with a good spine. Next season: the Enochian Vision Purple men's festival cloak ($250) prints a magician's kit on black and violet: a pentagram in a circle, an eye, an open book, a dagger, a chalice and columns of gold script. Enochian is the angelic language the Elizabethan scholar John Dee recorded in his journals, so this costume comes with a footnote, and it's dark enough for the techno stage (read the story behind it: Write One True Thing). Each Magus Fawn cloak has a micro-mink outer, a fluffy faux-fur fleece lining in black or white (listed fabric weight 200 g/m²), a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings, and four pockets: two deep side pockets and two interior stash pockets, one zippered. Unisex fit, XS–5XL. Kevin, reviewing our Lunar Eclipse cloak in March 2025, wrote: "High quality, detailed build and design. Top notch. Super soft and warm."

Silver Mystic Eye women's festival cloak worn hood up from the back, an eye above glowing flower-of-life orbs in silver filigree on black, a fortune teller rave costume

The fortune teller. Tonight: every scarf you own, all your rings at once, and battery fairy lights coiled in a clutch as your crystal ball. Next season: the Silver Mystic Eye women's festival cloak ($250) opens an eye at the top of the back, above a column of glowing flower-of-life orbs wrapped in silver filigree on a black lattice, like a crystal ball that looks back: a natural for the Psycho Circus. Faux-fur-lined, four pockets, unisex fit, XS–5XL.

The angel. Tonight: all white, or all black for the fallen version, fold-flat wings and a headband halo. Next season: the Angel Catcher women's crushed velvet crop hoodie ($75) opens teal feathered wings across the chest, with white mandala stars on the sleeves over charcoal knotwork. Crushed velvet at a listed 240 g/m², a hooded crop with a drawstring and long sleeves, S–2XL.

The pirate. Tonight: a striped shirt, a vest, a bandana and tall boots. Next season: the Mechanical Kraken snapback ($40) coils a mechanical kraken with glowing teal eyes between two violet jellyfish, over a flower-of-life brim. One size fits most, adjustable, and ready for the pins every bass crowd collects.

Halloween rave outfits for couples: two halves of one myth

The best Halloween rave outfits for couples tell one story in two parts. Magus Fawn's favorite pairs come straight from mythology, where the matching was settled long ago: the dragon and the phoenix, or the wolf and the girl in the red cape.

Electric Dragonscape tube top bodysuit at a festival, an ice-blue and cobalt crystalline dragon with raised wings over a glowing orb, one half of a couples rave costume

The dragon and the phoenix. In Chinese art, the dragon and the fenghuang, usually translated as phoenix, are a classic pair, and together they stand for a happy marriage. The phoenix half wears red and gold with a feathered mask, crowned by the Golden Phoenix snapback ($40): a phoenix spreading gold, violet and blue wings across the crown from a glowing green orb, over a flower-of-life brim (read the story behind the design: The Fourth Feather). One size fits most, adjustable.

The dragon half is the Electric Dragonscape tube top bodysuit ($75): an ice-blue and cobalt crystalline dragon, wings raised over a glowing orb. It's 88% poly / 12% spandex at a listed 220 g/m², in XS–2XL. Wear it under a coat or hoodie for the line, then unzip and let the myth take the floor. No dragon in the closet yet? Scaled blue and a crested headband do the job tonight.

The wolf and Little Red. A red hoodie for one, grey faux fur and ears for the other. Our Halloween rave story The Ribbon and the Wolf turns this pair into a bass-hall rescue, and carries the best costume lesson we know: tie nothing tight at the throat.

Lylyth and I are always matching, whether we’re both rocking our crushed velvet line or our matching dye sublimation cotton - we’re birds of a feather and easy to spot at raves, festivals & faires!

Hulaween costumes for river fog and moss-hung oaks

Suwannee Hulaween runs October 22–25, 2026 at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida: four days of jam, bass and house under live oaks hung with Spanish moss, with costumes all weekend. Magus Fawn's Hulaween formula is a light costume for the humid evenings and a layer over it for the foggy hours before sunrise.

From the closet: a swamp witch in green tulle (leave the Spanish moss on the trees), or a river spirit in blue and silver.

Cyber Punk Mech chiffon kimono, a long belted navy kimono with cyan, violet and magenta crystalline mech geometry, worn as a Hulaween costume layer

House music loves a kimono, and a kimono loves a costume. The Cyber Punk Mech chiffon kimono ($75) turns a plain bodysuit into an android oracle: navy chiffon swept with cyan, violet and magenta crystalline mech geometry, like a circuit board dreaming it's stained glass. It's 100% poly chiffon at a listed 80 g/m², with cuffed sleeves and a waist belt, S–5XL. When a cold front pushes the night toward the 40s, zip a hoodie or cloak over it. Our Hulaween love story Meet Me at the Lake at 4 A.M. races that river fog to Spirit Lake before dawn.

Is it too late to order a Halloween rave outfit for 2026?

For made-to-order pieces, yes. Every Magus Fawn garment takes 7–11 business days to make and 6–14 business days to deliver. Even the fastest run, 13 business days, needed an order by October 13 to reach Escape Halloween on October 30. Build this year's costume from your closet, and plan next year's now.

For Halloween 2027, order by mid-September. At the slow end, production and delivery add up to 25 business days, about five weeks. In 2026 that put the slow-end order date on September 25 for Escape and September 17 for Hulaween. The 2027 dates are TBA, so count back five weeks from your first night and add a cushion.

The next cold night is closer. Countdown NYE returns to the NOS Events Center on December 31–January 1, with nights around 40–45°F. Order by Monday, November 23 at the slow end (see our Countdown NYE outfits guide), and find the rest of the cold season in what to wear to a winter rave.

Size for the costume underneath. Our FAQ suggests sizing up on cloaks and hoodies, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under," and a costume counts as a layer. All sales are final, so if you're between sizes, email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com; we typically reply within 1–2 business days. US shipping is free on orders of $70 or more.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cold at Escape Halloween at night?

It's cool. Escape Halloween nights in San Bernardino typically sit around 50–55°F in late October, and the air feels colder in the entry line and on the walk back to the car than on a packed dance floor. Bring one warm layer that zips or ties open, such as a hoodie, a coat or a hooded cloak.

What are good Halloween rave outfits for men?

Start with a character that reads from across the room: a wizard, a pirate, a ringmaster or a wolf. Build it from a dark base, joggers or black jeans and boots you can stand in all night, then add one statement layer such as a hooded cloak or a printed hoodie, and a hat for your pins.

What are good Halloween rave outfits for women?

Pick one bold character and build it on a base you can dance in, such as a bodysuit with leggings or tights. Add a crushed velvet crop hoodie or a kimono for color on the floor, then a coat or hooded cloak for the line. Fold-flat wings, push-up masks and comfortable boots keep the costume dancing.

Can you wear a cloak as a Halloween costume?

Yes. A hooded cloak reads instantly as a wizard, a sorcerer, a vampire or a forest spirit, and it does double duty as your warm layer on a cool night. Choose one with a front zipper so it opens when the dance floor heats up, and pockets so your phone and earplugs stay with you.
