The sun drops behind the Estrella Mountains around half past five, and for a few minutes the whole West Valley turns the color of a peach. Then the light goes, the desert lets go of its heat, and a speedway in Avondale fills with people who plan to stay out until 3 a.m.
This year Decadence Arizona calls its chapter "Sands of Eternity," and opens with an hourglass. We like a theme that tells you what to wear. Sand-gold, night-black and a hood for the hour when the desert gets honest.
We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists who have danced through plenty of desert nights. Here's how we'd dress for Decadence Arizona 2026: what the cold actually looks like, what the rules let you carry, and two cloaks that turn the walk from the parking lot into an entrance.
What should you wear to Decadence Arizona?

Wear your party outfit with one warm hooded layer on top. Decadence Arizona runs outdoors at Phoenix Raceway until 3 a.m., and NOAA's normals put December nights near 42°F in that corner of the West Valley. Magus Fawn's pick is a cloak lined in faux fur: open for the drop, zipped for the walk out.
The theme helps. "Sands of Eternity" is an invitation to dress like a desert night: dark grounds, gold linework, a little shimmer. That's the Crystal Mushroom Kingdom women's festival cloak ($250) in one line. Violet and teal towers, domes and crystal spires rise across a black ground, each one traced in fine gold, like a sleeping city seen from a dune at midnight. In daylight it reads almost black. Under the lasers, the violet and teal come forward.
It's built like every Magus Fawn cloak: a micro-mink poly outer, an ultra-soft lining in black or white faux fur, a listed fabric weight of 200 g/m², a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings and four pockets, two of them inside and one of those zippered. Unisex fit, XS to 5XL. This is the investment piece, and two nights at the raceway is a good start on the years it'll keep.
How cold does Phoenix Raceway get on New Year's Eve?
Colder than Phoenix itself. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for Litchfield Park, the nearest station with temperature normals, put the December low at 42.0°F, about three degrees under Sky Harbor's 45.3°F. Litchfield also averages three or four December nights at or below freezing. Afternoons still reach the mid-60s, so the swing is the story.
| Station (NOAA 1991–2020) | Month | Average high | Average low | Nights at or below 32°F |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Litchfield Park, near the raceway | December | 64.5°F | 42.0°F | 3.5 a month |
| Litchfield Park | January | 66.1°F | 42.9°F | 2.7 a month |
| Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport | December | 66.2°F | 45.3°F | 0.1 a month |

That gap between the airport and the west side is worth knowing. Open desert gives up its heat fast after sunset, and a raceway is a lot of open ground. Doors open at 6 p.m., right as the temperature starts its slide, and the last set ends in the coldest stretch of the night. Dance through the middle, and keep the hood ready for both ends.
Decadence Arizona 2026: Sands of Eternity at Phoenix Raceway
Decadence Arizona 2026 runs December 30–31 at Phoenix Raceway, 7602 Jimmie Johnson Drive in Avondale, presented by Relentless Beats and Global Dance, according to the official site. The venue is a one-mile dogleg oval on land once farmed for cotton below the Estrella Mountains. Names on the 2026 bill include Chris Lake, Disclosure (DJ set), Eli Brown, I Hate Models, ISOxo, KETTAMA, Levity, Patrick Topping, Polo & Pan and Zomboy, and the official afterparty runs on January 1 at the raceway.
The Decadence Arizona FAQ sets the shape of your night:
- Strictly 18+, with government ID at the gate.
- Doors at 6 p.m., done at 3 a.m. each night. Parking opens at 4 p.m., and there's no overnight parking.
- No same-day re-entry. Your pass scans in once per day.
- Clear bags up to 15″ x 15″ x 5″, plus one clutch up to 5″ x 7″ x 2″. Empty hydration packs with no more than two pockets are the exception.
- Hats, sunglasses and glowing costumes are welcome. Spiked jewelry, large chains, poi, totems and Native American headdresses aren't.
Two extras on the official site make cold-weather planning easier: a coat check ticket that covers both nights, and prepaid charging lockers. Round-trip shuttles run from Tempe, so you can skip the drive. Arrive in the cloak, dance in it as long as you like, and check it if the crowd gets warm.
The second cloak: liquid color for the countdown

If the first cloak is the desert at midnight, the second is the desert at sunset. The Liquid Melt men's festival cloak ($250) pours rainbow fractal flames down the back, mirrored and molten in orange, red, lime, cobalt and violet, every color sliding downward like wax in the sun. It's bright enough for your friends to find you across a raceway infield, and it saves its best trick for midnight, when the countdown lights hit it.
Same build: micro-mink outside, faux fur lining in black or white, double zipper, heavy drawstrings and four pockets. Unisex XS to 5XL. Thomas, writing about this design in December 2022, called it "one of the best purchases I've ever made in my entire life." We'll take that.
Wear it open over black and let the print do the talking, or zip it to the chin for the shuttle line. Hats are on the allowed list, so a brim under the hood is fair game too.
The afterparty and the slow first day of 2027
The official Decadence Arizona afterparty runs on January 1, and then comes a favorite part of any New Year's trip: a slow afternoon with nowhere to be. That's hooded blanket time. Our hooded blankets with ears are $150: 100% poly fleece at 300 g/m², an oversized pullover with a cat-ear hood, a front quarter zip and an oversized front pocket, one size cut as a 4XL.
They live in the hotel room or the car, not the venue: Decadence lists blankets nowhere on its allowed items, and tents and chairs are out. Pull one on for the late breakfast, the nap and the long drive home. It's also a simple Christmas gift, because one size means nobody has to guess.
When should you order a Decadence Arizona outfit?
Order by Thursday, November 12, 2026. Every Magus Fawn piece is made to order: production takes 7–11 business days, then delivery takes 6–14 business days. Counting 30 business days back from December 29, the day before doors, gives that date; the last call at our slowest pace is Thursday, November 19.
Both counts skip weekends, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and Christmas. US shipping is free at $70 and up. Giving the cloak as a Christmas present? Our slowest timeline means ordering by Tuesday, November 17.
All sales are final, so let's find your size first. For cloaks our FAQ suggests sizing up, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under," which is handy if you'll wear a hoodie underneath on the walk from the parking lot. Email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com and we'll help. The full method is in our guide to how long made-to-order festival clothing takes.
The hourglass turns
Decadence Arizona gives you two nights to say goodbye to a year in the desert. Dress for the warm afternoon you'll arrive in and the 42°F hour you'll leave in, carry everything in a clear bag and your pockets, and let the art do the talking when the countdown hits zero.
