Bush Doof Outfits 2027: What to Wear to Rainbow Spirit, Pitch and Australia's Outdoor Doofs

|Magus Fawn

The road in turns to gravel, then to dust the color of paprika. Gum trees lean over the campsite, a galah complains from somewhere overhead, and through the trunks you can already feel the bassline thumping out of the Sunrise Stage.

By late afternoon the bush glows gold and everyone is in chiffon and sunnies. By two in the morning the same crowd is hooded, wrapped and dancing harder than ever, because a Victorian night in March has a cool streak the day never mentioned.

That swing is the whole art of dressing for a doof.

We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists and psytrance lifers, and we ship our made-to-order festival wear to Australia. Here's how we'd dress for Rainbow Spirit and Pitch in March 2027, from the heat of the dance floor to the coldest hour before the sun comes up.

What should you wear to Rainbow Spirit 2027?

Dress Rainbow Spirit in two layers of time. For the afternoon, Magus Fawn suggests breathable prints, a sun hat and something flowing for the Horizon Stage. For the night, bring a hooded, faux-fur-lined cloak, because Bureau of Meteorology March averages near the Glenaroua site settle around 12°C (54°F) after dark.

Rainbow Spirit, the festival known as Rainbow Serpent until it changed its name in 2023, runs March 5–8, 2027 at Glenaroua in Victoria, according to the official site. It was founded in 1998, and its music page lays out three worlds for 2027's theme, "Emergent Form": the Horizon Stage for progressive and techno at dusk, the Sunrise Stage for psychedelic sounds, and the Homestead Stage for bass, dubstep and glitch (Rainbow Spirit music).

Psytrance has always loved a liquid print, and this one flows from hood to hem. The Psy Trance women's festival cloak ($250) pours pastel marbling down the whole body: violet, lavender and rose folding into gold, aqua and lime, like paint swirled on water at first light. It's micro-mink on the outside with a faux-fur lining in black or white, a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings and four pockets, two of them inside. Unisex fit, XS to 5XL. This is the investment piece, and it earns its keep every night of the four.

Day looks for the bush: chiffon and a good hat

Afternoons belong to the light stuff. The Bureau's March average maximum at Mangalore Airport, the nearest long-running station to the Glenaroua site, is 26.3°C (79°F), and the open paddocks feel every degree of it. Think airy, colorful and easy to tie around your waist when the shade arrives.

Our favorite day layer is chiffon. The Liquid Fire chiffon kimono ($75) is molten marbling from collar to hem, tangerine, crimson, gold and magenta swirled through with grape and cobalt, like lava sliding down a hill at dusk. It's featherweight 100% poly chiffon at 80 g/m², with long cuffed sleeves and a waist belt, in a regular fit from S to 5XL. Wear it open over a bodysuit and it trails behind you on every spin.

Then the hat. Australian sun is generous, and a brim is your best friend between sets. The Lucid bucket hat ($50) swirls neon violet, magenta, tangerine, teal and lime into mirrored kaleidoscope rosettes, with a small coral heart on the brim, like the moment a dream turns lucid. It's light 275 g/m² poly that folds into a pocket once the hood takes over, in sizes XS, S/M and L/XL. Your crew will spot you from the far side of the paddock.

Which bush doof has the coldest nights?

Pitch, by a degree or two. Bureau of Meteorology March averages give a mean minimum of 9.7°C (49°F) at Ararat Prison, near the Pitch site, 12.3°C (54°F) at Mangalore Airport, near Rainbow Spirit, and 11.9°C (53°F) for November at Tocumwal, near Strawberry Fields. Those are averages, so Magus Fawn packs a hooded cloak for all three.

Doof 2027 dates Nearest BoM station Average daytime high Average night low
Rainbow Spirit Mar 5–8 Mangalore Airport 26.3°C (79°F) 12.3°C (54°F)
Pitch Music & Arts Mar 5–9 Ararat Prison 24.1°C (75°F) 9.7°C (49°F)
Strawberry Fields TBA (2026 ran Nov 20–22) Tocumwal Airport 26.9°C (80°F) in November 11.9°C (53°F) in November

Figures are the Bureau's long-term monthly averages from its climate statistics pages (Ararat Prison, Tocumwal Airport), read October 28, 2026.

For the second cloak in the crew, go darker and deeper. The Feathery Fractal men's festival cloak ($250) grows peacock plumes out of fractals: deep purple and emerald feathers mirror around a dark diamond medallion that glows teal down the back. In the photo it reads almost midnight blue until the stage lights find the plumes. Same build as every Magus Fawn cloak, with a black or white faux-fur lining and a unisex fit from XS to 5XL. Hood up, it's the quietest way to keep dancing through the coolest stretch of the night.

Pitch, Strawberry Fields and the rest of the doof calendar

Pitch Music & Arts runs March 5–9, 2027 at Mafeking, "at the foothills of the Grampian Plains," on the lands of the Djab Wurrung and Eastern Maar peoples, according to the official site. The festival describes itself as "a rural pastiche of focused dance music, integrated contemporary art and creative expression." Same weekend as Rainbow Spirit, so pick your side of the state.

Strawberry Fields is the summer doof on the Murray. The 2026 edition runs November 20–22 at The Wildlands near Tocumwal, NSW, according to the festival's official ticket page, and 2027 is TBA. Our story Find the River is set at a Murray River doof, if you want the mood before the gates open.

Across the Tasman, Kiwiburn runs January 27 to February 1, 2027 at Hunterville; our Kiwiburn outfit guide covers the river and the regional-burn culture.

The camp-morning piece: a hooded blanket

Doof mornings are slow and beautiful. Someone gets the billy going, the sun clears the trees, and the dew lifts off the swag. This is where the $150 hooded blanket earns its place in the car.

The Dream Weaver hooded blanket with ears ($150) puts a wolf-like dream guardian with glowing amber eyes inside a ring of icy blue, cobalt and violet crystal spires, with cat ears on the hood to finish the look. It's 100% poly fleece at 300 g/m², an oversized pullover with a front quarter zip and an oversized front pocket, made in one size, cut as a 4XL. One size means no guessing, which makes it the easiest gift in this guide. Our hooded blanket guide has more on wearing one.

Below the blanket, joggers. The Madriax Blue joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL and $108 in 3XL) run a starry violet and cobalt galaxy over honeycomb geometry, with mandala rosettes blooming like frost flowers and teal medallions near the ankles. They're 308 g/m² (96% recycled poly, 4% elastane) with a cotton-feel face and brushed vegan fleece inside, cuffed legs that tuck into boots, side pockets and a drawstring waist. Slim fit, XS to 3XL; order 1–2 sizes up for a looser fit.

When should you order festival clothes for Rainbow Spirit from Australia?

Aim for Wednesday, January 20, 2027. Every Magus Fawn piece is made to order: production takes 7–11 business days, then Standard International delivery takes 7–14 business days. Counting 30 business days back from the March 5 gates leaves a comfortable cushion, and the last-call date at our slowest pace is Wednesday, January 27.

The same dates work for Pitch, which opens the same Friday. Standard International shipping is $10, and every piece is printed, cut and sewn for you in your size, so it's worth taking a minute over sizing first. All sales are final, and we're happy to help: email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com. For cloaks and hoodies our FAQ suggests sizing up, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under."

Gifting it for Christmas instead? Order by Tuesday, November 17, 2026 at our slowest timeline. The full method, with order-by dates for 42 festivals, is in our guide to how long made-to-order festival clothing takes.

Dust, sunrise and the drive home

A doof outfit is a conversation between the sun and the stars. Chiffon and a brim for the gold hours, a cloak for the blue ones, and a blanket for the sleepy morning that follows. Dress for both halves and the bush gives you the whole story.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rainbow Spirit the same festival as Rainbow Serpent?

Yes. Rainbow Spirit Festival describes itself as "formerly Rainbow Serpent Festival," founded in 1998 and with a long-time home at Lexton in Victoria. The name changed in July 2023, the festival returned in March 2026 after an extended break, and the 2027 edition runs March 5–8 at Glenaroua. The music, art and Village culture carry on.

What music plays at Rainbow Spirit?

Rainbow Spirit programs three main sounds across its stages. The Horizon Stage hosts progressive and techno with views over the landscape, the Sunrise Stage is dedicated to psychedelic, high-energy sets, and the Homestead Stage runs bass, dubstep and glitch. The Village adds workshops, yoga, sound healing and visionary art in the Evolve Gallery.

When is Pitch Music & Arts 2027?

Pitch Music & Arts 2027 runs March 5 to 9 at 1330 Moyston Dunkeld Road, Mafeking, in Victoria, with gates open from Friday March 5, according to the festival's official site. It opens the same Friday as Rainbow Spirit, so a doof crew in Victoria chooses one of the two for that long March weekend.

Does Magus Fawn ship to Australia?

Yes. Australia is one of the 38 countries outside the US that Magus Fawn ships to, by Standard International for $10, with delivery in 7–14 business days. Every piece is made to order, with 7–11 business days of production first, so for a March doof we suggest ordering by January 20, 2027.
