On the plains west of Geelong, the afternoon is so bright the tents glow. Four hours later the same paddock is blue, the air has a cool edge, and everyone who packed the warm layer looks very wise.
That's the trick of an Australian New Year's festival. You dress for summer, and then you dress for the night.
We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists and festival lifers, and we ship our made-to-order festival wear to Australia. We read every festival's official site and the Bureau of Meteorology's climate statistics, so here's the 2026/27 New Year's season, festival by festival, with what we'd wear and the date to order by.
What are the best Australian New Year's festivals in 2026/27?

These five Australian New Year's festivals have confirmed 2026/27 dates on their official sites: Woodford in Queensland (from December 27), Beyond the Valley in Victoria and Lost Paradise in NSW (both from December 28), Wildlands in Brisbane and Perth, and Field Day in Sydney on New Year's Day. Magus Fawn's picks for each follow below.
| Festival | Where | 2026/27 dates | Age | Camping |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Woodford Folk Festival | Woodfordia, Queensland | Dec 27–Jan 1 | All ages (youth and child tickets) | Yes |
| Beyond the Valley | Barunah Plains, Hesse, Victoria | Dec 28–Jan 1 | 18+ | Yes (sold separately) |
| Lost Paradise | Glenworth Valley, NSW Central Coast | Dec 28–Jan 1 | 18+ | Yes (GA camping included) |
| Wildlands | Brisbane Showgrounds; Arena Joondalup, Perth | Dec 31 (Brisbane); Jan 2 (Perth) | 18+ | One-day event |
| Field Day | The Domain, Sydney | Jan 1 | 18+ | One-day event |
Dates come from each official site, read October 28, 2026. Beyond the Valley and Lost Paradise both say they're sold out.
Our pick for the whole season is the cloak above. The Chakra Mandala women's festival cloak ($250) climbs the chakra rainbow: glowing mandala discs in red and orange at the hem rise through yellow, green and blue to violet at the hood, and the whole ladder repeats on the front, so color rises on either side of the zipper. It's a 200 g/m² micro-mink outer over an ultra-soft faux-fur lining in black or white, with heavy drawstrings, two inside stash pockets and two side pockets. Unisex fit, XS to 5XL. Phil, a cloak customer, put the price question best in October 2023: "Was it worth it? Hell YES it was!" The investment piece, and the one you'll wear from the first sunset to New Year's Day.
Which Australian New Year's festival has the coldest nights?
Beyond the Valley. Bureau of Meteorology averages for Colac (Mount Gellibrand), the open station about 20 km south of the Barunah Plains site, give a December mean minimum of 10.9°C (52°F). Lost Paradise sits near 15°C and Woodford near 19°C. Magus Fawn packs a hooded cloak for Victoria and a lighter layer further north.
| Festival | Bureau station | Average December high | Average December low | Average January low |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beyond the Valley | Colac (Mount Gellibrand) 090035 | 23.5°C (74°F) | 10.9°C (52°F) | 12.8°C (55°F) |
| Lost Paradise | Mangrove Mountain AWS 061375 | 26.6°C (80°F) | 15.4°C (60°F) | 16.9°C (62°F) |
| Woodford Folk Festival | Beerburrum Forest Station 040284 | 29.8°C (86°F) | 18.6°C (65°F) | 19.9°C (68°F) |
Source: Bureau of Meteorology climate statistics (Colac, Mangrove Mountain, Beerburrum), read October 28, 2026. Each is the closest open Bureau station with temperature averages we found: Mangrove Mountain is about 14 km from Glenworth Valley, on a plateau above it, and Beerburrum is about 18 km east of Woodford.
Even Woodford, the warmest of the three, says it plainly on its Prepare page: "it gets pretty chilly if you're still wandering about enjoying The Pineapple Lounge at four in the morning."
What should you wear to Beyond the Valley?
Pack for heat and cold in the same day. Beyond the Valley's own list asks for "A warm jacket," "Clothes for hot and cold weather," a hat and sunscreen, and Bureau averages near Hesse drop to about 11°C on December nights. Magus Fawn's plan: light layers by day, then a hooded, faux-fur-lined cloak over your jacket.
Beyond the Valley runs December 28 to January 1 at Barunah Plains, 4484 Hamilton Highway, Hesse, according to the festival's information page. It's strictly 18+ with ID shown on arrival, and camping is sold separately from festival entry. The packing list also asks for "Extra pairs of socks," which tells you everything about the nights on those plains.
Our FAQ suggests sizing cloaks up, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under," so the Chakra Mandala cloak (or any cloak here) zips over the warm jacket the festival asks you to bring.
Lost Paradise: a river valley and a fancy dress theme

Lost Paradise calls itself "A four day New Years Eve celebration of music, movement and connection, tucked away in a valley by the river," December 28, 2026 to January 1, 2027 in Glenworth Valley, on Darkinjung Country (official site). It's strictly 18+, and it's sold out. It also has a New Year's Eve costume theme: the festival's help centre says "Our NYE fancy dress theme for 2026 will be announced closer to the event."
Whatever the theme turns out to be, a cloak makes an easy costume base. And if it's anything cosmic, cute or cozy, here's your answer already. The Cosmic Space Cats women's festival cloak ($250) is a storybook galaxy crowded with cats: glowing tabbies and wide-eyed kittens drift past moons and ringed planets across a sky of cobalt, violet and electric blue, with tangerine, rose and orange-red nebula clouds curling between them. All the cozy charm of a holiday sweater, painted across the cosmos, for sunset sets and the 12:01 photo. Faux-fur lining in black or white, a double front zipper and four pockets. Unisex fit, XS to 5XL.

By day, the valley heats up. The Cosmic Flower of Life Blue one-piece swimsuit ($65; $68 in 2XL and $69 in 3XL) curls periwinkle and sky-blue flourishes in mirror image over a fine net of Flower of Life circles, the colors of a river catching the sun. It's 225 g/m² four-way stretch (75% recycled poly, 25% elastane) with a double-layer front, a scoop neck and a low scoop back, and the listing calls it quick-dry and chlorine-resistant. Wear it through the heat of the day, then keep it on as a bodysuit under the cloak at night. Regular fit, XS to 3XL.
Woodford, Wildlands and Field Day: the rest of the season
Woodford Folk Festival is the all-ages one: six days at Woodfordia, with a season ticket "valid for all 6 days of the festival, 27 Dec – 1 Jan" and youth, child and free toddler tickets on its 2026/27 price list. It's a folk festival with camping, and its weather note covers "very hot and dusty days through to impressive summer thunderstorms," so pack sun cover and something for a storm.
Wildlands plays Brisbane Showgrounds on December 31 and Arena Joondalup in Perth on January 2, according to its official site. Field Day brings "100% dance in the middle of Sydney" to The Domain on Friday, January 1, 2027, strictly 18+ (official site). These are one-day city festivals, so the outfit starts with the afternoon sun.

For a New Year's Day in a city park, a brim is the essential. The Green Fractal snapback hat ($40) swirls deep teal and forest-green fractals like marbled stone with water running over it, threaded with copper the way old metal turns green in the light. It's a light, breathable 150 g/m² crown of 100% polyester with a plastic adjustable snapback, one size fits most, unisex. And if a summer storm rolls over the park, wear the brim under a hood.
And for March, Rainbow Spirit and Pitch (both from March 5, 2027) have their own guide: bush doof outfits for 2027. Strawberry Fields (November 20–22, 2026) is already sold out and too close to order for; that guide covers it, too.
January 1: the slow morning
New Year's Day at a camping festival is a gentle, unhurried morning. Nobody's in a hurry, the kettle takes forever, and the tent is warm with sun. That's the hour for the $150 hooded blanket.
The Amethyst Unicorn hooded blanket with ears ($150) sets a white unicorn rearing within an arch of violet smoke on a starry indigo field, while amethyst points grow up from the hem. Pull up the cat-ear hood and you become the daydream everyone wants to sit beside. It's 100% poly fleece at 300 g/m², an oversized pullover with a front quarter zip and an oversized front pocket, made in one size cut as a 4XL.
When should you order festival outfits for an Australian New Year's festival?

Magus Fawn makes every piece to order: production takes 7–11 business days, then Standard International delivery takes 7–14 business days. The last call for those three is Tuesday, November 17.

The comfortable date leaves a week of room for a parcel crossing the Pacific; the last call is our slowest timeline, 25 business days. Christmas and the long holiday weekend fall right before these festivals, which pulls the dates early. We count business days the way our made-to-order timeline guide explains, skipping weekends, US holidays and the day after Thanksgiving.
Standard International shipping to Australia is $10, and local import duties or taxes may apply. All sales are final, so let's get the size right together: email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com.
Summer by day, starlight by night
An Australian New Year's festival gives you the whole range: hot paddocks, a river at noon, a storm over the park and a cool blue hour before the first sunrise of the year. Pack for all of it, wear the art, and let the countdown find you dancing.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Beyond the Valley 2026 held?
Beyond the Valley 2026 is held at Barunah Plains, 4484 Hamilton Highway, Hesse, in Victoria, according to the festival's official information page. It runs from December 28, 2026 to January 1, 2027, it's strictly 18+ with ID checked on arrival, and camping is sold separately from festival entry. The official site says the 2026 festival has sold out.
Is Falls Festival happening this New Year?
Not according to its official site. As of October 28, 2026, Falls Festival's website shows only a notice that it's taking the New Year's season off to rest, recover and recalibrate, with no 2026/27 dates. For a multi-day New Year's camping festival this season, Beyond the Valley, Lost Paradise and Woodford all have confirmed dates.
Is Woodford Folk Festival all ages?
Yes. Woodford Folk Festival sells adult, youth (13–17), child (6–12) and free toddler (0–5) tickets for 2026/27, and anyone accompanying an under-18 needs an adult ticket, according to its official price list. It runs for six days, December 27 to January 1, at Woodfordia in Queensland, with camping on day and season tickets.
Does Lost Paradise have a fancy dress theme?
Yes. Lost Paradise's official help centre says its New Year's Eve fancy dress theme for 2026 will be announced closer to the event, so watch the festival's socials. A printed festival cloak makes an easy base for most themes, and it doubles as your warm layer when the valley cools after midnight.
