Festival Swimsuits: One-Piece Rave Outfits for Lake Days and Pool Parties

|Magus Fawn

The dock is warm under your feet, and the lake is still holding the afternoon light.

Somebody's speaker on the shore spills a house set across the water. You climb the ladder, squeeze the lake out of your hair and pull a pair of shorts over a suit that's half dry before you reach the path. Nobody at the sunset stage will guess you were floating ten minutes ago. That's the quiet magick of a festival swimsuit: the one-piece that carried you through three cannonballs becomes the bodysuit at the heart of your evening look.

Up the hill, the crowd is filling in. A Flower of Life lattice shimmers on one dancer, a mandala blooms on the next, and an alien oracle drifts across a stranger's ribs. Lake water still beads on the art.

We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists, and every one of these swimsuits starts as art in our studio (Lylyth tags the one-piece as her personal pick). This guide shops the way we'd shop with a friend: the art first, then the fit, then the care.

Is swimsuit fabric different from bodysuit fabric?

Yes. Swimsuit fabric is built for water: quick-drying, chlorine-resistant stretch with a double-layer front. Bodysuit fabric is built for dry land, usually a lighter jersey or microfiber. Magus Fawn one-pieces use the swim fabric, so the same suit that leaves the lake can dance all evening as a rave bodysuit.

Every Magus Fawn one-piece is cut from the same fabric: 75% recycled poly and 25% elastane at a listed 225 g/m², with four-way stretch, a double-layer front, a scoop neck and a low scoop back. Our store describes it as quick-dry and chlorine-resistant. The art is dye-sublimated, so the ink becomes part of the fiber: "colors won't fade and image won't crack — ever."

That's why the one-piece rave outfit rules summer festivals: it's the only bodysuit that can follow you off the end of a dock, through a pool party and onto a desert dance floor. For dry-land cuts with snaps, cut-outs and spaghetti straps, see our rave bodysuit guide.

What size festival swimsuit should you get?

Order the size your measurements point to. Magus Fawn one-pieces come in XS to 3XL with a regular fit, and four-way stretch moves with you. The size-up advice in our FAQ is for cloaks and hoodies worn over layers; a swimsuit sits next to skin. Between sizes? Email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com.

Prices depend on the design's generation and your size:

Size Original designs (Liquified Abyss, Madriax Pink, Zebra Flower of Life) Newer designs (Cosmic Knight, Crystal Shroom Kingdom, Galactic Alien Oracle, Mystical Egypt)
XS–XL $65 $65
2XL $68 $65
3XL $69 $65

Made to order, so plan ahead. Production takes 7–11 business days, then delivery takes 6–14 business days, about five weeks at the outside. All sales are final, which is one more reason to measure first. US shipping is $8 under $70 and free at $70 and up, so a swimsuit plus a pair of shorts ships free. Our plus size rave outfits guide builds full looks for every size.

Cosmic swimsuits: oracles and armor

Space art and water get along beautifully: both are deep, and both shimmer.

Galactic Alien Oracle one-piece festival swimsuit in lavender, periwinkle and violet with a long-headed oracle figure at the chest

The Galactic Alien Oracle women's one-piece swimsuit ($65, XS–3XL) is our serene alien: a pale, long-headed oracle at the center of the chest, wrapped in silver-white currents and starry orbs on lavender, periwinkle and violet. It reads like moonlight on a lake at the psytrance stage. (The oracle's own story is The Oracle and the Last Ferry.)

Cosmic Knight rave swimsuit in deep navy and teal with engraved silver-teal medallions like etched armor

The Cosmic Knight women's one-piece swimsuit ($65, XS–3XL) is armor that swims. Engraved silver-teal medallions run down the front over deep navy and teal, etched like a breastplate. Under black cargo shorts after dark, it's the rave swimsuit for techno and bass nights.

Sacred geometry and mandala swimsuits

Geometry is the calmest art on the beach: it holds still while the water moves around it.

Zebra Flower of Life sacred geometry swimsuit with diagonal powder-blue and white stripes filled with a fine Flower of Life lattice

The Zebra Flower of Life women's one-piece swimsuit ($65; $68 in 2XL, $69 in 3XL) runs diagonal stripes of powder blue and white, each one filled with a fine Flower of Life lattice, like sunlight rippling over a sandy lake bottom. It's the softest look here, easy with denim or a white kimono.

Mystical Egypt one-piece swimsuit on black with a rainbow column of seven glowing circles framed in gold sacred geometry

The Mystical Egypt women's one-piece swimsuit ($65, XS–3XL) stacks seven glowing circles down the center in rainbow order, violet at the neckline to red at the hip, framed in gold and violet sacred-geometry linework on black. The black base hides dust and lets the rainbow talk.

Madriax Pink mandala swimsuit in wine and magenta with a hot-pink dotted mandala blooming on one hip

The Madriax Pink women's one-piece swimsuit ($65; $68 in 2XL, $69 in 3XL) blooms a hot-pink dotted mandala on one hip, its rings of dots radiating across wine and magenta over a fine honeycomb texture. The mandala swings every time you do. Madriax also stars at an Australian bush doof in Facing the Wrong Way.

Liquid and storybook swimsuits

These two look most alive with a little lake still on them.

Liquified Abyss festival swimsuit with marbled swirls of orange, teal, magenta, navy and violet

The Liquified Abyss women's one-piece swimsuit ($65; $68 in 2XL, $69 in 3XL) pours marbled swirls of orange, teal, magenta, navy and violet together like oil paint on still water. The design has two lakeside stories: Meet Me at the Lake at 4 A.M. and Seven Bells for a Sunken Town.

Crystal Shroom Kingdom one-piece rave outfit with a glowing teal crystal spire under a gold arch and violet mushroom caps on navy

The Crystal Shroom Kingdom women's one-piece swimsuit ($65, XS–3XL) is a fairy-tale castle you can swim in: a glowing teal crystal spire rises under a gold filigree arch, with violet and pink mushroom caps on either side, all on deep navy and indigo. Forest festivals with a swimming hole were made for it. (Its kingdom appears in Three Riddles Before Last Call.)

How do you go from the lake to the dance floor in a swimsuit?

Treat the one-piece as your base layer and add pieces as the day turns. Pull shorts or a sarong over it for the walk up from the water, add a kimono or open shirt at sunset, then leggings and a hoodie after dark. Keep a dry layer and a small towel in your bag.

Time of day What the swimsuit does What you add
Afternoon swim Everything Water shoes, sunscreen, a hat
The walk up from the water Bodysuit Shorts or a sarong
Sunset set Bodysuit with art showing A kimono or open shirt
After dark Base layer, once it's dry Leggings, a hoodie, a cloak for the coldest hour

Golden Phoenix cargo shorts in black with gold clockwork rings and starburst medallions glowing violet and teal

The Golden Phoenix cargo shorts ($65, S–5XL) spin gold clockwork rings and starburst medallions over black, glowing violet and teal at the edges. They're sold as men's shorts, and plenty of women wear them slouchy over a one-piece. The fabric is 100% poly at 190 g/m², with a button-closure waistband and cargo pockets for sunscreen and lip balm.

Styling by sound: psytrance loves a kimono over Galactic Alien Oracle or Madriax Pink; house loves Zebra Flower of Life with denim shorts; techno loves Cosmic Knight or Mystical Egypt under black; bass loves shorts, sneakers and a hat full of pins.

Which festivals have lakes, rivers or pools for swimming?

Plenty of the best ones. Lightning in a Bottle camps beside Buena Vista Lake in California, Boom gathers on a reservoir in Portugal, Shambhala sits on the Salmo River in British Columbia, crowds at Strawberry Fields swim in Australia's Murray River, and Pitch Music & Arts added the Pitch Rock Pool in 2026.

No water on site? Our Ultra outfits guide styles a swimsuit for Miami's bayfront afternoons.

For the shoreline after dark, read The Eye Made Whole, a lakeside psytrance story, and Let Go at Sunset, an acro yoga story from a lakeside festival.

Swim where swimming is welcome, with a buddy, and be back on shore before the night sets begin.

How often should you reapply sunscreen after swimming?

Reapply sunscreen every two hours and straight after every swim, using a water-resistant formula of SPF 30 or higher. A Magus Fawn one-piece has a low scoop back, so your shoulders and back stay in the sun; cover them first. Then add a hat, sunglasses and a shady hour at midday.

The American Academy of Dermatology says most adults need about an ounce of sunscreen, roughly a shot glass, and advises you to "reapply sunscreen every two hours, and immediately after swimming or sweating."

Trade back-sunscreen duty with your crew, since a low scoop back is easy to miss with your own hands. A bucket hat shades your face, ears and neck, and the midday hours belong to the chill dome.

How do you wash a swimsuit after chlorine or salt water?

Rinse it in cool fresh water as soon as you're out, even under the campground shower, then let it dry in the shade. At home, follow the label: machine wash cold with like colors, no bleach, tumble dry low or hang dry, no iron, no dry cleaning. Hang drying is best.

A few general swimwear habits keep any suit bright and springy for many summers:

  • Rinse every time: after every pool session, ocean dip or lake swim, so chlorine, salt and silt never dry into the fibers.
  • Press, then hang: squeeze the water out in a towel instead of wringing, and dry it in the shade.
  • Pack it dry: let it dry completely before it goes back in your bag.

Our festival laundry guide covers cloaks, crushed velvet and fleece.

The lake will be warm again before you know it. Pack the one-piece whose art you'd love to see beading with lake water at sunset, and walk straight from the dock to the dance floor.

Frequently asked questions

What do you wear to a festival pool party?

A one-piece swimsuit with something easy over it: denim or cargo shorts, a sarong or an open kimono, plus sandals, sunglasses and a hat. Magus Fawn one-pieces are printed edge to edge with our art, so the swimsuit carries the look and everything else can stay simple.

Are Magus Fawn swimsuits chlorine-resistant?

Yes. Our one-piece swimsuit pages describe the fabric as quick-dry and chlorine-resistant: 75% recycled poly and 25% elastane at 225 g/m², with four-way stretch and a double-layer front. Chlorine-resistant fabric still loves a rinse, so give it cool fresh water after every pool session and hang it to dry.

Do you need water shoes at a lake festival?

They help. Lake and river shores at festivals are often pebbly, muddy or knotted with roots, and wooden docks heat up in the afternoon sun. Water shoes or sturdy sandals let you walk straight from the shoreline to the dance floor. Pack dry socks and sneakers for the evening walk back to camp.

Is a one-piece or a bikini better for a festival?

For dancing, a one-piece wins. It stays in place through jumping, swimming and long sets, covers more skin from the sun, and doubles as a bodysuit under shorts, skirts and kimonos. A bikini suits a pure beach day. Magus Fawn's swimsuits are all one-pieces, printed edge to edge with our art.
