Matching Rave Outfits for Couples, Best Friends and Crews (Cold-Weather Edition)

|Magus Fawn

The drop lands at 12:40 and the whole field jumps at once. When your feet touch the ground again, the hand that was in yours is gone.

Forty thousand people. Every face lit the same laser green. You rise onto your toes and text "where r u" into a signal that went to sleep an hour ago. The air has that after-midnight bite now, and everyone around you has zipped into the same dark jacket.

Then, thirty yards back and a little to the left, someone turns toward the stage and the light finds their back: the exact print that's wrapped around your own shoulders.

You weave through elbows and flags. A hood drops. A grin. "I was coming to find you," you both say at once, like you rehearsed it.

That's the secret life of matching festival outfits. Sure, they look adorable in the group photo. But at 2 a.m., in the cold, in the crowd, a shared print becomes a lighthouse.

We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, the Los Angeles artists behind Magus Fawn. Many of our designs come on more than one garment, so this guide covers how couples, best friends, crews and families can match, coordinate and find each other when the crowd closes in.

Matching vs coordinating: what's the difference?

Matching means wearing the same design, either on the same garment or split across two, so you read as a pair from across a field. Coordinating means wearing different designs that share a palette or a story, like a sun and a moon. At Magus Fawn we love both, and most couples end up somewhere in between.

Think of it as a ladder:

Level What it looks like Best for
Full match One design, same garment: two cloaks in one print Couples who want to be found in big crowds
Split print One design on different garments: a cloak and a hooded blanket, a hoodie and joggers Couples who want to match without looking like twins
Sibling designs Two designs that tell one story: a sun and a moon Pairs with different styles
Crew colorway One design in different colors Best friends and whole camps
Shared palette Different designs in one color family Big groups with mixed wardrobes

Our veteran rule: match one statement piece, not head to toe, and keep everything underneath simple and black.

The split print is our favorite rung: the same art on a cloak and a crop hoodie, or a hoodie and joggers, reads as "together" from across the field and as two different people up close. Most of our designs come on several garments, so there's almost always a split to be had.

Can couples wear matching men's and women's cloaks?

Yes. Magus Fawn's men's and women's festival cloaks share one build: a micro-mink outer, a fluffy faux-fur fleece lining in black or white, a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings and four pockets, all in a unisex fit from XS to 5XL. So any two people can wear a matching pair, chosen by size and art.

That makes a cloak pair the simplest matching rave outfit for couples:

The Flower of Life is the sacred-geometry pattern of overlapping circles, long read as everything connected to everything, a good motto for two. It anchors a trance love story where a voice singing the anthem a beat early leads through harbor fog to a stranger in the same cloak (read the story behind the pair: One Beat Ahead).

Matching cloaks aren't only for romance: in The Eye Made Whole, a brother and sister paddle home across a mountain lake in the men's and women's Temple of Horus cloaks, named for the falcon god whose healed eye, the Eye of Horus, stands for wholeness (read the story).

A couples' pocket trick: each cloak has a zippered interior pocket, so one of you carries the keys and the other the battery pack.

What are the best couple hoodies for festival season?

The best couple hoodies are one Magus Fawn design worn on two different hoodies: a 310 g/m² cotton pullover for one of you and a crushed velvet crop hoodie for the other. You match in print and differ in shape, which reads as a pair at the stage and as two individuals at brunch.

Liquid Fire is a molten marbling of orange, red, gold, plum and violet, like poured flame, for the two people who keep the campfire company at 4 a.m.

The Liquid Fire cotton pullover hoodie ($100) is 310 g/m² cotton, printed edge to edge through a new cotton dye-sublimation process from our cut-and-sew partners, with a kangaroo pocket in sizes XS–6XL.

Its partner is the Liquid Fire women's crushed velvet crop hoodie ($75), also in Liquid Fire: 240 g/m² crushed velvet, sizes S–2XL.

Or split one set between two. A hoodie-and-joggers set dresses one person, or two who don't mind negotiating.

Product image of the Acid Melt crushed velvet pullover hoodie: symmetrical fractal flames in orange, red, lime, cobalt and violet melting downward

Acid Melt is a rainbow of symmetrical fractal flames melting downward, made for bass nights. One of you takes the Acid Melt crushed velvet pullover hoodie ($100), 240 g/m² velvet with a drawstring hood, sizes S–2XL.

The other takes the Acid Melt joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL), also in Acid Melt: a cotton-feel face with brushed vegan fleece inside, listed fabric weight 308 g/m², cuffed ankles and a slim fit (size up one or two for a looser one).

House rule for split sets: whoever's colder on the walk back to camp gets both.

Sun and moon: the coordinated couple

Product image of the Lunar Eclipse women's festival cloak: magenta, violet and orange mandalas around a glowing pale moon-orb with a smaller red orb above, on black

Some couples don't want to match. Coordinating lets you both stay yourselves and still tell one story.

Our favorite example uses two different designs. The Lunar Eclipse women's festival cloak ($250) circles a glowing pale moon with magenta, violet and orange mandalas. Kevin, reviewing a Lunar Eclipse cloak in March 2025, wrote: "High quality, detailed build and design. Top notch. Super soft and warm."

Its counterpart is the Solar Eclipse crushed velvet pullover hoodie ($100), from our Solar Eclipse design, built around a golden eclipsed sun ringed in fire. Velvet, 240 g/m², drawstring hood, sizes S–2XL.

In tellings from many places, the sun and moon are lovers who meet only during an eclipse; at a sunrise set, with one of you in each, they get the whole morning (read our love story about the pairing: Two Minutes of Totality).

The trick is one shared thread. Gold runs through both eclipse designs, so it ties two different garments into one look.

How do you coordinate outfits for a festival group?

Pick one anchor and let everyone riff on it. At Magus Fawn the easiest anchor is a single design in several colorways, so each person keeps a favorite color while the whole crew shares one geometry. Add one rule, like everyone wears it after sunset, and your group reads as a tribe from across any field.

Product image of the Angel Catcher Purple joggers: purple sacred-geometry print with a cuffed ankle, styled with a black tank top

Angel Catcher is our crew design. It's built from layered, interlocking sacred-geometry forms that bloom outward like a star, and it comes in more colorways than anything else we make. Picture a camp of six, each in a different color, walking to the main stage like a color wheel that learned to dance.

Best friends can do it with two: same geometry, two colorways, one running joke about who wore it first.

Crew rules that work:

  • Give everyone a color call sign. "Orange is at the totem" is faster to text than directions.
  • One statement piece each. Everything else stays black, so the art reads from a distance.

Matching family festival outfits, kids included

Product image of the Electric Dragonscape women's festival cloak: an ice-blue, cobalt and white crystalline dragon with head and wings in faceted, electric scales

Festival families get a bonus: 14 of our 16 kids' designs share their artwork with an adult cloak.

Electric Dragonscape is an ice-blue, cobalt and white crystalline dragon, its head and wings in faceted, electric scales. Every kid wants a dragon. The grown-up layer is the Electric Dragonscape women's festival cloak ($250), unisex fit in XS–5XL.

The small-dragon layer is the Electric Dragonscape kid's pullover hoodie ($75): 230 g/m² scuba knit with a kangaroo pocket, sizes 2XS–XL, and a drawstring-free hood. That last detail matters: under CPSC rules, hood and neck drawstrings on children's upper outerwear in sizes 2T to 12 count as a substantial product hazard.

A bold print also turns a child into one easy sentence for a volunteer: "blue dragon hoodie, parent in the matching cloak."

With siblings, coordinate instead: two designs that look good together, so each kid keeps their own style and you can tell them apart at a glance. (Our kids' festival clothes guide covers layering and safety for small ravers.)

How do you find each other in a festival crowd?

Agree on a landmark and a time before the music starts, because phone signal often fades in big crowds. Then wear something your people can spot: a Magus Fawn print shared across your group turns a sea of black jackets into a beacon. Add a backup rule, like meet at the landmark at the top of every hour.

Cold nights make it matter more. At Countdown NYE (nights around 40–45°F) or Dreamstate SoCal's damp late-November harbor, the whole crowd zips into dark layers by midnight, which is exactly when an all-over print stands out.

The lighthouse plan:

  1. Name the landmark in daylight. An art piece, a flag, the sound booth. Everything looks different at 2 a.m.
  2. Set the top-of-the-hour rule. If you drift apart, go to the landmark on the hour and wait five minutes.
  3. Photograph each other's back. In a crowd facing the stage, backs are all anyone sees, and a cloak's art lives on the back. Snap it at camp each afternoon.
  4. Keep phones warm. Batteries love body heat, so phones ride in an inside zippered pocket.

Sizing a matching pair (and the Christmas order date)

Every Magus Fawn piece is made to order, so get both sizes right the first time:

Piece Fit Sizes Tip for a pair
Festival cloak Unisex XS–5XL Size up for a hoodie underneath, "sometimes even 2 sizes up"
Cotton pullover hoodie Relaxed regular XS–6XL Shrinks 3–5% on the first wash, so size up if between sizes
Crushed velvet hoodie or crop hoodie Regular S–2XL Your usual size
Joggers Slim XS–3XL Order 1–2 sizes up for a looser fit
Kid's pullover hoodie Kids' sizing 2XS–XL Drawstring-free hood

Production takes 7–11 business days, then delivery takes 6–14 business days. US shipping is free at $70+, which any pair here clears. All sales are final, so email measurements to art@magusfawn.com if you're unsure.

Matching outfits for the holidays? To have them by Christmas Eve, order by Tuesday, November 17, 2026, which covers our longest quoted production and delivery times. The holiday gift guide has the full order-by table, and how to stay warm at a festival at night covers the layers underneath.

Then pick your rung of the ladder, pick your person, and go find the far stage together.

Frequently asked questions

What should couples wear to a rave when it's cold?

Layer one shared design over warm basics. One partner wears a faux-fur-lined festival cloak while the other wears a cotton or crushed velvet hoodie with brushed-fleece joggers, all in the same Magus Fawn print or two designs that coordinate. You stay warm through the coldest hour before sunrise and stay easy to spot in the crowd.

Is it cheesy to match outfits with your partner?

No, and at a festival it's downright practical: a shared print helps you find each other in a crowd of thousands. To keep it stylish, match the art and vary the garment, like a cloak and a crop hoodie in one design, so you read as a pair without looking like you're wearing a costume.

What are good matching rave outfits for best friends?

Pick one design and let each friend wear it in their own colorway or on their own garment. Magus Fawn's Angel Catcher sacred geometry comes in more colorways than any other design we make, on cloaks, joggers and snapbacks, so two friends can match the art and still keep a favorite color each.

Are couple hoodies a good Christmas gift?

Yes, especially for festival couples, because a matching pair gets worn at every cold-night event and on ordinary weekends too. Magus Fawn hoodies are made to order, so order by Tuesday, November 17, 2026, to cover the longest quoted production and delivery times before Christmas Eve. All sales are final, so confirm both sizes first.
