Boom Festival Outfits 2027: What to Wear to Portugal's Psytrance Gathering (30th Anniversary)

|Magus Fawn

By two in the afternoon, the reservoir is the coolest thing in Boomland.

Cicadas buzz in the cork oaks. The hills above Idanha-a-Nova have baked to the color of toast, and across the water the Dance Temple rolls out a kick drum you feel through the soles of your feet. A dancer wades in to her knees, dunks her T-shirt, wrings it out and pulls it back on, dripping and grinning. Boom's own guide calls that trick "the most eco-friendly aircon on this planet."

That wet T-shirt holds the whole secret of Boom Festival outfits: dress for the sun first, the lake second and the soft cool of the night third. In July 2027 Boom turns 30, and its 40,000 tickets went to dancers from 169 countries in two hours.

We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists, and Magus produces Psy EDM. Here's what to wear to Boom Festival, from the noon sun to the sunrise set.

Boom Festival outfits for 2027: a week by the lake

Boom runs a full week with three moods a day. Days at Idanha-a-Nova reach 95–100°F (35–38°C), the reservoir fills the afternoon, and nights settle into the 60s°F (15–18°C). Magus Fawn's Boom plan is breathable cotton and swimwear by day, a bright dance layer at sunset and a hoodie with long leggings after dark.

When Boomland weather What to wear
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 95–100°F+, full sun Cotton tee or bodysuit, hat, sunglasses, a wet scarf
Lake hours Hot sun, cool water Swimsuit, athletic shorts, flip-flops
Sunset at the Dance Temple Golden light, rising dust A dress or bodysuit, boots or trainers
Night 60s°F (15–18°C) Hoodie, long leggings, socks
The sunrise set The coolest hour, dew off the water Hood up until the sun clears the hills

Boom's own wardrobe list is refreshingly short: light clothes, "a jumper, long trousers and socks" for cold nights, swimwear, costumes, boots or trainers, flip-flops, sunglasses, a hat, a scarf to soak and a waist-bag for documents. Everything below fits inside it.

How hot does Boom Festival get during the day?

Hot enough to plan your day around it. Boom's July afternoons in Idanha-a-Nova usually run 95–100°F (35–38°C), sometimes more, in dry cork-oak hills. The festival's guide says to protect yourself especially between 10:00 and 17:00. Magus Fawn's daytime answer is breathable cotton, a hat, sunglasses and a scarf you keep wet.

Boom's self-care advice reads like a veteran's notebook: seek shade. Never fall asleep in the sun, and wake anyone snoozing in it. Free drinking water flows all over Boomland. When the heat peaks, soak your T-shirt and let the breeze do the rest.

Alien Dimensions cotton t-shirt with mirrored violet and teal alien faces, a daytime Boom Festival outfit

The shirt for the dunk. The Alien Dimensions cotton t-shirt ($60) mirrors alien faces in violet, lavender and teal around a sacred-geometry flower and a gold-outlined star: visitors from another dimension, sitting in on the afternoon set. It's 100% cotton at 190 g/m², in XS–5XL, and it drinks up a lake dunk happily.

The hat. Boom's list literally says "Funny hats." The Purple Mandala snapback hat ($40) answers with a violet crown traced in darker mandala linework over a black brim, a beacon for your crew.

Lake days on the Marechal Carmona reservoir

The reservoir is Boom's afternoon living room, and swimming is part of the daily rhythm. Boom's guide notes that swimwear is optional. We'd simply make the option worth wearing.

Madriax Blue one-piece swimsuit with a teal dotted mandala, a festival swimsuit for lake days

For the water. The Madriax Blue women's one-piece swimsuit ($65; $68 in 2XL, $69 in 3XL; XS–3XL) is royal blue and violet, with a teal dotted mandala swirling up one side like ripples spreading from a stone. Madriax also stars at an Australian bush doof in Facing the Wrong Way.

For the shore and the walk back. The Psytrance unisex athletic long shorts ($60; $65 in 2XL–4XL, $70 in 5XL–6XL; 2XS–6XL) pour liquid marbling in magenta, lime, orange, teal and violet, a Dance Temple light show from waist to knee. The design also lights up The Waterfall at 145 BPM.

Mystic Eye Blue mesh bodycon dress with cobalt swirls and Flower of Life circles

From the lake to the dance floor. Slip the Mystic Eye Blue women's sheer mesh bodycon dress ($55, 2XS–5XL) over your swimsuit for the walk up to the Dance Temple: cobalt and sapphire swirls carrying Flower of Life circles, rippling like the reservoir at dusk.

Zip your passport away at camp before you swim. Our Portugal story, The Lady of the Waves, turns on a passport left by the reeds.

What is the Dance Temple at Boom Festival?

The Dance Temple is Boom's main psytrance stage and the heart of the festival, where the floor keeps moving through the night and well into the morning sun. Dress to dance for hours in dust: breathable pieces, boots or trainers for the dry ground, a buff for your face and one bright print the sunrise can catch.

Two house rules shape the Temple. "Bring your Feet, not your Seat": chairs on dancefloors are confiscated and donated to a local charity, with shaded seating around the edges. And "Phones Off, Dance On", because Boom would rather you remember the drop than film it.

Galactic Alien Oracle V-neck bodysuit in lavender and violet filigree, a psytrance festival outfit

The Temple look. The Galactic Alien Oracle V-neck bodysuit ($55, XS–2XL) runs lavender, periwinkle and violet filigree in mirror symmetry down to a star-burst glowing at the hips, made for a 145 BPM morning. The oracle has her own story in The Oracle and the Last Ferry.

After dark: a jumper, long trousers and socks

That's Boom's own advice for cold nights. After a 100°F afternoon, the 60s°F feel genuinely cool, especially in the hour before sunrise, when dew lifts off the reservoir. A cotton hoodie, long leggings and warm socks cover the whole night.

Front view of the Liquid Fire cotton pullover hoodie, molten gold, violet, orange and lime marbling with black drawstrings, a night layer for Boom Festival

The jumper. The Liquid Fire cotton pullover hoodie ($100) swirls molten gold, violet, crimson-orange, teal and lime, like the glow of the Sacred Fire, where Boom serves food at any hour of the day or night. It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m² with a kangaroo pocket, in XS–6XL.

Angel Catcher Green yoga leggings with neon green sacred geometry on black

The long trousers, for her. The Angel Catcher Green women's yoga leggings ($70, XS–XL) set neon green sacred-geometry stars around a Flower of Life medallion on black. They're microfiber in 75% recycled poly and 25% elastane at 225 g/m², with four-way stretch and a raised waistband. Keep them clear of rough bark and granite.

The long trousers, for him. The Dream Weaver men's festival leggings ($65, XS–3XL) weave electric blue, cobalt and white into crystalline swirls, cool as the reservoir at 5 a.m. Wear them under the Psytrance shorts.

What are Boom Festival's principles?

Boom lists seven principles: Oneness, Music, Peace, Arts, Environment, Culture and Love. On the ground that means no national flags, phones off on the dance floor, no chairs on dancefloors, a clean campsite and permaculture-led care for the land, at a festival that has run without corporate sponsorship since 1997.

Boom began 30 years ago near Setúbal, moved to Idanha-a-Nova in 2002 and bought the land it calls Boomland in 2016, according to its Who We Are page. Its principles lean into regeneration: every mid-morning an Eco Team tours the campsites with a tune reminding everyone to clear their rubbish.

By day the Liminal Village hosts talks and the Chill Out Gardens offer shade and slower music. Dress for curiosity: something you can sit cross-legged in, plus a print worth asking about.

Void Mandala chest bag with its black crossbody strap, silver-grey mandala discs on black, a festival bag for a passport and phone

Boom asks you to show a valid ID with your ticket at the gate and to keep your documents in a waist-bag. The Void Mandala chest bag ($50) does that job crossbody: silver-grey mandala discs on black, holding your passport and a switched-off phone close to your heart.

When should you order a Boom Festival outfit for 2027?

Order by Tuesday, June 1, 2027. Every Magus Fawn piece is made to order: 7–11 business days of production, then 6–14 business days of delivery, so up to 25 business days in all. A June 1 order reaches a US address by July 8 even at the slow end, ten days before Boom opens.

Boom Festival 2027 runs July 18–25 at Herdade da Granja on the Marechal Carmona reservoir, as The Portugal News reported when the festival announced its return; the official Boom site has everything else.

  • Size for the nights. For hoodies, the Magus Fawn FAQ suggests sizing up, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under."
  • All sales are final, with a 14-day cooling-off period for EU customers on unused items with tags on. Between sizes? Email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com.
  • Shipping. US orders ship free at $70 and up. International shipping starts at $10.

Frequently asked questions

Are Boom Festival 2027 tickets sold out?

Yes. Boom's official ticket page says 2027 tickets sold out in two hours: 40,000 tickets, zero lineup announcements and 169 countries represented. Boom limits capacity on purpose, to keep a good balance between people and nature on the land, and says growth isn't its measure of success.

Is Boom Festival every year?

No. Boom is held every two years, in odd-numbered years, and a year-round team uses the gap year to prepare the next edition and look after Boomland. There was no main Boom in 2026; the smaller Being Gathering took place on the site that July. The next Boom runs July 18–25, 2027, its 30th anniversary.

How do you get to Boom Festival from Lisbon?

Boomland is about 260 km from Lisbon and 360 km from Madrid, near Idanha-a-Nova. The easiest route is the Boom Bus from Lisbon, Porto or Madrid airport straight into the venue; it carried 26% of Boomers in 2025. By public transport, take a bus or train to Castelo Branco, then a weekday bus to Idanha-a-Nova.

Can you use your phone at Boom Festival?

Yes, and there's a place to charge it, but Boom encourages you to keep it switched off for the week. Its motto is "unplug to Connect", there are no Wi-Fi hotspots, and screens are unwelcome on the dancefloor. Drones are reserved for official crews, and intrusive cameras aren't tolerated, so ask before photographing anyone.
