The sun slips behind the pines, and the forest switches on.
One tree blushes magenta, the next goes emerald, and suddenly you're walking through Sherwood Forest under a canopy of colored light. Hammocks sway between the trunks. A hand-painted sign glows in the ferns. The air is warm and heavy, sweet with pine sap, and a kick drum rolls through the trees from one side while a jam band stretches a guitar solo into the stars from the other. A stranger in a mushroom hat hands you a sticker and calls you family, and somehow they mean it.
That's the whole brief for Electric Forest outfit ideas: wear something that looks like it grew here, dances through hours of humid air, and has a plan for 2 a.m., when a thunderstorm can roll over the treetops.
We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, two Los Angeles visionary artists whose whole life orbits festivals and the EDM world. Here's what we'd pack for Rothbury, Michigan, in 2027.
What do people wear to Electric Forest?

People wear costume-forward, art-covered looks at Electric Forest: bold prints, bucket hats, joggers, kimonos and light layers built for humid June nights. The crowd mixes bass, house and jam-band fans, so anything expressive belongs. Magus Fawn's take is visionary art you can dance in for hours, plus one warm hooded layer for after midnight.
Electric Forest runs in late June at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, a pine and hardwood forest wrapped around open grass fields. String Cheese Incident anchors the weekend, and the 2026 bill also had GRiZ, Illenium and Chris Lake, per Live for Live Music. The culture is so friendly that regulars call each other the Forest Family.
Dress for the trees. Sherwood Forest is already wearing every color, so the most striking piece can be the quiet one. Our Void Mandala design tiles charcoal mandalas over black, subtle and hypnotic, and under the lit trees a monochrome print borrows the color of whatever trunk you're beside. The Void Mandala chiffon kimono ($75, S–5XL) floats over a tank at golden hour and ties around your waist when the floor heats up.
Forest-night reading: The Quartz Trail, a lantern-maze mystery, and Lost on Purpose, set in a lit forest in late June.
How do you dress for a humid night in Sherwood Forest?

Dress in light, breathable layers for Electric Forest nights, which typically run 55–65°F and humid in late June. Start with something airy for dancing, then add a light crushed velvet layer for 2 a.m. in the trees. Magus Fawn's crop hoodies and sleeveless hoodies handle that hour without overheating the dance floor.
Humid air feels warm while you dance and cool the moment you stop, in a hammock or on the walk between stages. A hood you can flip up in one move covers it.
For her: the Cosmic Cross Silver women's crushed velvet crop hoodie ($75) is 240 g/m² crushed velvet with long sleeves and a drawstring hood. Its symmetrical silver filigree reads like cathedral ironwork, and the velvet throws back every colored light in the canopy.

For him: the Golden Phoenix men's sleeveless hoodie ($75) is 180 g/m² jersey (95% poly, 5% spandex) in S–2XL: a hood without the sleeves, exactly the right amount of hoodie for a sticky night at the Tripolee. The phoenix is the bird that rises at dawn, which is roughly when you'll head back to camp.
Veteran move: pack one dry top per night and swap it in before the velvet goes on. Dry fabric under a light layer beats damp fabric under a heavy one.
Electric Forest outfits for bass, house and jam sets

Electric Forest crosses three scenes, each with its own dress code:
- Bass: bold and comfortable. Oversized hoodies and joggers are the uniform, bucket hats wear their pins with pride, and a bandana or buff rides around the neck.
- House: groove, color and sunset. Open shirts by day, kimonos when the sky turns orange, velvet after dark. House crowds dance in loose circles, so wear something that looks good from every side.
- Jam: twirl-friendly and costume-forward. Flowing layers, spinning hoops and poi, and wild hats all belong.
For the bass side: our Angel Catcher design is sacred geometry built from interlocking forms that bloom outward like a star, and the green colorway looks at home among the pines. The Angel Catcher Green joggers ($100; $105 in 2XL, $108 in 3XL) are 308 g/m² with brushed vegan fleece inside, cuffed legs and side pockets. They run slim, so go one or two sizes up for a looser fit, and save them for after midnight when the forest cools.

For every side: our Ophanim design is named for the wheeled angels of Ezekiel's vision, beings made entirely of seeing, and the grey colorway spins silver and white filigree around a radiant medallion. Your crew will spot it across a packed Ranch Arena. The Ophanim Grey bucket hat ($50, XS–XL) has room for every pin you trade all weekend.
What should you wear to Electric Forest when it storms?

When thunderstorms roll through Electric Forest, wear a light rain shell on top and save your warm layers for the cool, damp hours after. Thunderstorms are common in Rothbury in late June, and a passing storm turns a muggy night crisp fast. A Magus Fawn faux-fur-lined cloak or a hooded blanket covers the stretch until sunrise.
First, the lightning. Trees feel sheltering, but the National Weather Service says no place outside is safe when thunder roars, so head for a hard-topped car or an enclosed building. Then the fun part: rain-washed pines, steam rising off the paths, the lit trees doubled in every puddle, and a dance floor of people grinning like they won the rain.
A cloak is a warmth layer, not a rain shell, so it comes out once the downpour passes. Our Forest Wizard design is gothic botanical: a mirrored pair of horned skulls wreathed in flowers and vines among cream and rose-gold flower mandalas on black. Skulls that grew a garden, the forest's oldest trick. The Forest Wizard women's festival cloak ($250) has a micro-mink outer, a faux-fur fleece lining in black or white, a double front zipper and four pockets (two inside, one zippered), unisex in XS–5XL. On a 65-degree night it rides open; when the storm pulls the air down, zip it (read the story behind the design: The Trader in the Wizard Cloak).

Back at camp: the hour after a storm, wrapped up in a hammock while the forest drips, is one of the best of the weekend. The Acid Melt hooded blanket with ears ($150) is 300 g/m² poly fleece with a cat-ear hood, a quarter zip and an oversized front pocket, in one oversized size (4XL). Its fractal flames melt downward in orange, red, lime, cobalt and violet, a sunrise you can wear before the real one arrives. For more layering, see how to stay warm at a festival at night.
How do you pick Electric Forest outfit themes with your crew?
Pick one thread the whole crew can pull: a single design worn across different garments, a shared color story, or a forest character for each day. Mixed-genre festivals like Electric Forest are costume-forward, and themed days are part of the culture. Magus Fawn designs come in cloaks, hoodies, joggers, kimonos and hats, so a crew can match without dressing identically.
- One design, many colors. Angel Catcher comes in more colorways than any other Magus Fawn design, so each friend claims a color and the crew reads as one constellation.
- Forest creatures. Wizards, fae, mushroom royalty. One person goes full cloak, and the rest echo it with a hat or a kimono.

Frequently asked questions
When is Electric Forest 2027?
Electric Forest 2027 dates are TBA as of October 2026. The festival traditionally runs in late June at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan, and the 2026 edition ran June 25–28. Watch the festival's official channels for the announcement, and order made-to-order Magus Fawn pieces at least five weeks before you leave.
What should guys wear to Electric Forest?
Guys at Electric Forest dress for movement: a breathable tee, tank or sleeveless hoodie for humid sets, joggers or shorts, and a bucket hat covered in pins. Bass fans lean toward oversized hoodies and joggers after midnight. Pack a light velvet hoodie or a hooded cloak for the cool, damp hours after a thunderstorm.
What should women wear to Electric Forest?
Women at Electric Forest mix costume and comfort: a bold printed base layer, a flowing kimono for sunset and a crushed velvet crop hoodie for 2 a.m. under the lit trees. Forest-creature, fae and celestial themes all fit. Wear shoes that handle roots and mud, and keep a warm hooded layer at camp.
What shoes should you wear to Electric Forest?
Wear broken-in sneakers or lightweight boots with real grip. Electric Forest's paths wind through pine and hardwood forest, over roots and grass, and common late-June thunderstorms can leave them muddy. Pack a second pair so one can dry while you dance in the other, plus fresh socks for every day of the weekend.
