The biggest thing on the Day Trip dance floor isn't the speaker stack. It's an ocean liner the length of a city block.
The Queen Mary rests at her berth like she's been saving a dance for this weekend since 1936: black hull, white decks, three red funnels against a soft silver sky. A pale marine layer hangs over the water, and the dancers love it. Chiffon sleeves drift. A pool-noodle totem wrapped in LED tape sways above the crowd.
That harbor is where Day Trip festival outfits begin: house and techno on the water from early afternoon until midnight, and a breeze that turns soft and cool off the Pacific. By the closing sets, the ship's portholes glow like a string of pearls, the air has eased into the 60s, and the veterans untie a hoodie from their waist and keep dancing.
We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists, and Long Beach is just down the freeway from home. This is our guide to what to wear to Day Trip in 2027, from the first groove to the last techno track.
What should you wear to Day Trip Festival?
Dress for a harbor afternoon, then plan for a cooler evening. Magus Fawn's Day Trip formula is a bodysuit, polo or crop top as the base, cotton shorts, a snapback, a chiffon kimono for golden hour and a cotton hoodie tied at the waist for the cool marine air after dark.
Day Trip runs from 1 p.m. to midnight, according to the festival's official info page, and there's no re-entry, so the hoodie you'll reach for after dark has to arrive tied around your waist.
| When | On the waterfront | What to wear |
|---|---|---|
| Afternoon | Gray skies or sunshine, house grooves | Bodysuit or polo, cotton shorts, snapback |
| Golden hour | Sunset sets beside the ship | A chiffon kimono floating over the base |
| After dark | Techno, strobes, deeper sounds | Dark prints and a hooded tank |
| Closing sets | Marine air in the 60s°F | A cotton hoodie over everything |
How chilly does the Queen Mary waterfront get at night?
Sweater-weather cool. Day Trip's late-June nights on the Long Beach waterfront usually settle into the 60s°F, with a marine layer drifting in off the harbor. Damp sea air feels cooler than the number suggests, so Magus Fawn's Day Trip plan pairs a breathable outfit with one light layer for the closing sets.
June Gloom is the local name for the overcast skies that form when marine clouds drift ashore, and it lasts longest right at the coast: a softer afternoon sun, then an evening that cools quickly once the light goes. Layer light, and tie the warm piece at your waist, since blankets aren't allowed and bags are small.
When a festival does turn properly cold, how to stay warm at a festival at night is our cold-weather playbook.
Kimonos and bodysuits for the harbor afternoon
House culture dresses groovy and sun-washed, with kimonos at sunset. A bodysuit carries the print through the day; a kimono turns it into an outfit for golden hour.
The Amethyst Unicorn chiffon kimono ($75, S–5XL) pours violet and amethyst smoke down its full length, lit with streaks of white, like a crystal cave catching a sunset. It's 80 g/m² chiffon with long sleeves and an adjustable waist belt that cinches when the breeze picks up.

Under it, the Angel Catcher tube-top bodysuit ($75, XS–2XL) blooms with teal and aqua sacred-geometry medallions on charcoal, a flower-of-life rosette at the chest and ladder cut-outs down both sides. Think of it as a dreamcatcher tuned for angels instead of dreams. The fabric is a stretchy 88% poly, 12% spandex blend at 220 g/m².
Top it with the Candy Star Burst Flower of Life snapback ($40), mint and lime Flower of Life rings overlapping across soft green, the ancient pattern of interlocking circles. One size, with an adjustable snapback closure for when the marine layer burns off.

What do guys wear to Day Trip?
Think house party on the water. Most guys at Day Trip land on a printed short-sleeve shirt or polo, shorts with pockets, broken-in sneakers and sunglasses. Magus Fawn's men's Day Trip outfit is a crushed velvet polo with all-over-print cotton shorts, plus a hooded tank or hoodie for the techno hours. Collared and colorful reads perfectly at a house festival.

The Cyber Alien Punk Mech crushed velvet polo ($65, S–5XL) sends teal, cobalt and violet currents around coral-red flourishes, with a white geometric star at the chest and a mandala glowing below it, like a starship control panel built by artists. It's 240 g/m² crushed velvet, the open-shirt house look with extra shine for the stage lights.

Pair it with the Temple of Sound unisex cotton shorts ($65, S–5XL): a crowned goddess haloed in gold, a winged dragon and speaker cones looming on the back, a temple where the altar is the sound system. They're 100% cotton at 245 g/m², with side and back pockets for your phone and ID. (Read the story behind the design: Play for the Floor.)

What do you wear to the techno sets at Day Trip?
Head for the dark end of the palette. Techno's dress code is black, minimal and unisex, usually with one hypnotic detail and sunglasses even after dark. Magus Fawn's Day Trip techno look swaps the color for graphite and silver prints: a cotton hooded tank or a mock-neck bodysuit, light enough to dance in and sharp under the strobes.
Techno grew up in Detroit and Berlin, and its uniform followed it; at a summer harbor festival, wear the same palette in lighter pieces. Our guide to what to wear to a techno party covers the all-black code in depth.

The Void Mandala cotton sleeveless hooded tank ($80, XS–5XL) layers graphite and silver mandalas across charcoal, Om symbols and a triangle-lattice yantra hidden among them, like a sound you feel before you hear. It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m² with a kangaroo pocket and drawstring hood. (Its story: Same Channel.)

The Cosmic Cross Silver sleeveless bodysuit ($55, XS–2XL) climbs in silver and charcoal filigree, pointed arches rising toward a single pearl-like orb at the chest, half Gothic chapel and half starship. It's sleeveless with a half-high collar in a 92% poly, 8% spandex knit; add black shorts and boots.
The marine-layer hoodie for the closing sets

The Liquified Abyss cotton hoodie ($100, XS–6XL) marbles navy, apricot, magenta and teal into slow liquid swirls flecked with gold, like the harbor at dusk when the ship's lights spill across the water. It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m² with a kangaroo pocket and drawstring hood. Magus Fawn's FAQ suggests sizing up for outerwear, "sometimes even 2 sizes up." (Read its love story: Meet Me at the Lake at 4 A.M..)
Day Trip's info page keeps bags small (clear bags up to 12″ × 6″ × 12″, clutches up to 6″ × 9″, or a hydration pack) and leaves blankets and large umbrellas at home, which is why the tied-on hoodie earns its spot.
When should you order a Day Trip outfit for 2027?
Thursday, May 6, 2027 is your Day Trip deadline. Day Trip's 2027 dates are TBA, but the festival lives in late June (the 2026 edition ran June 27–28). Because we sew each piece to order, 7–11 business days in production and 6–14 in transit, a May 6 order lands by June 11 even on the slowest schedule.
Day Trip first came to Long Beach in 2022, the Long Beach Post reported. In 2026 it ran three stages, High Tide, Deep End and the Amphitheater, per GV Wire, the last in the new 11,000-capacity Long Beach Amphitheater, Hoodline reported. Watch the official site for 2027 news.

Frequently asked questions
Is Day Trip Festival 21+?
Yes, strictly. Day Trip admits guests 21 and over only, and its official info page asks for photo ID at the gate: a US government-issued driver's license or ID card, or a US or foreign passport. Digital IDs, school IDs and expired IDs on their own won't get you in, so pack the physical card.
What is June Gloom?
June Gloom is the Southern California name for the cloudy, cool weather of late spring and early summer. Marine clouds form over cool ocean water and drift ashore, usually overnight, then typically clear between mid-morning and early afternoon. The effect lasts longest at the coast, which is why waterfront festivals in Long Beach can start gray and cool.
What is the Queen Mary in Long Beach?
The Queen Mary is a retired Cunard ocean liner that made her maiden voyage in 1936 and crossed the North Atlantic until 1967. She arrived in Long Beach that December and now serves as a hotel, museum and event venue. Day Trip sets up on the waterfront beside her, and some festivalgoers stay aboard.
Can you bring a totem to Day Trip?
Yes, within the festival's guidelines. Day Trip allows totems up to 10 feet tall, made from lightweight material such as foam or PVC, with poles no thicker than one inch and inflatables deflated for entry. Decorated pool noodles pass security most easily, and the official page asks that every totem keeps it PLUR.
