Coachella Outfits 2027: What to Wear From Desert Heat to Indio's Chilly Nights

|Magus Fawn

A long row of palms stands at the edge of the polo grass, and a fire-colored kimono catches the breeze and opens like a sail. Its wearer laughs, pins her braids back with one hand and keeps walking toward the main stage, boots kicking up a little dust. Beside her, a friend in a black velvet polo fans himself with the festival map. Deep in a tote, a folded hoodie waits for the walk back to camp.

Coachella outfits have a reputation for spectacle, and the Empire Polo Club in Indio earns it. The trick is dressing for two climates in one day: a desert afternoon in the mid-80s°F, then a valley that cools quickly once the stars come out.

The official site sets Coachella 2027 for April 9–11 and 16–18. Here's how Magus and Lylyth Fawn, Los Angeles visionary artists and festival lifers, would dress for it: one statement piece for the sun and one warm layer for the night.

What should you wear to Coachella?

Wear one bold, breathable statement piece for the desert afternoon, a brim for shade and dancing shoes you trust on grass and long walks. Then carry a cotton hoodie for the evening, when Indio cools toward the low 60s°F. A bag up to 18 × 13 × 8.5 inches holds that layer until you need it.

On the polo grounds Desert reading Outfit move
Gates and early sets Warm sun, April highs near 86°F Kimono or velvet polo, snapback
Afternoon peak About 13 April days reach 90°F Sheer mesh or cotton shorts, refill bottle
After dark Cooling toward 63°F in town Cotton hoodie over the day look
Camp nights Near 55°F at the Thermal airport station Hoodie plus a blanket or cloak

Coachella publishes an allowed and prohibited items list rather than a dress code, and a few entries shape an outfit:

  • Welcome through the gates: hats, sunglasses, face paint, makeup, dancing shoes, and fanny packs or hip bags.
  • Shine in the print, not the hardware: chains and chain wallets, high-visibility vests and LED gloves stay home.
  • Lotion over spray: aerosol sunscreen stays home, and non-aerosol sunscreen is on the allowed list.
  • Keep slogans friendly: the code of conduct keeps profanity off apparel, so let the art do the talking.

Statement pieces for the polo fields

Coachella's FAQ promises "plenty of shaded structures," plus free refill stations for an empty plastic bottle. Between them, you're in the open for hours, so we reach for light fabrics and prints bold enough to find your friends by.

Woman walking across a sunny festival plaza in the Liquid Fire chiffon kimono over silver boots: orange, gold and violet marbling trailing behind her, a Coachella kimono look

The kimono. The Liquid Fire chiffon kimono ($75, S–5XL) pours molten marbling from collar to hem: orange, gold and magenta swirled with violet, cobalt and lime, veined in black. It's 100% poly chiffon at a featherweight 80 g/m², with cuffed sleeves and a waist belt, so it ties closed over a bodysuit or floats open over a swimsuit. Flags stay home at Coachella; this flies instead. Its own love story is The Lava Dance.

Back view of a woman before a sunlit main stage in the Alien Cyber Punk Mech mesh top: sapphire and teal swirls around a white geometric crest, a sheer festival top

The mesh top. The Alien Cyber Punk Mech mesh top ($55, XS–6XL) wraps sapphire, teal and violet swirls around a white geometric crest at the upper back, with a blue mandala orb beneath it and crimson accents on either side. It's sheer 95/5 mesh in a skinny fit with long sleeves: art on your arms with barely any weight.

Back of a man on a dusty festival field in the Sacred Grounds crushed velvet polo: a golden meditating figure inside flower-of-life rings, copper wings above, on black

The polo. The Sacred Grounds crushed velvet polo shirt ($65, S–5XL) seats a golden figure in meditation at the center of the back, ringed by gold flower-of-life geometry and crowned with copper feathered wings, all on mottled black. A still point for the loudest field in the valley. It's 240 g/m² crushed velvet (95% poly, 5% spandex), collared and short-sleeved, in a regular fit.

Back of the Crimson Fenrir cotton shorts on a dusty festival field: broken chain links tumbling through crimson flames on black

The shorts. The Crimson Fenrir cotton shorts ($65, S–5XL) put a snarling grey wolf with glowing orange eyes on the front, rising through crimson smoke on black. Around the back, broken chain links tumble through crimson flames: the one kind of chain that walks straight into Coachella. They're 100% cotton at 245 g/m², with an elastic waistband, side pockets and a back pocket. Meet the wolf in The Ribbon and the Wolf.

Man in mirrored aviators before a sunlit main stage in the Universal Consciousness snapback: a serene face with flowing pale hair in lavender and violet

The cap. The Universal Consciousness snapback ($40) paints a serene face with flowing pale hair across the crown in lavender, violet and periwinkle, threaded with fine cosmic linework and small mandala circles, above a dark dotted brim. One calm gaze above the whole crowd. It's 100% poly at 150 g/m² with a plastic adjustable band, one size fits most.

Does Coachella get cold after sunset?

Cool rather than cold, and the change comes quickly. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Indio Fire Station, a few miles from the Empire Polo Club, put April highs near 86°F and lows near 63°F. At the airport station in nearby Thermal, April lows average about 55°F, so campers feel the night most.

That's a swing of roughly 23 degrees in town and more than 30 at the Thermal station, where an average April brings about 13 afternoons at 90°F or warmer and nearly nine nights below 50°F. Rain is scarce, under a tenth of an inch in a typical April. The Indio figures come from the Indio Fire Station normals, and Coachella's FAQ points packers to the Coachella Valley 10-day forecast.

To build a whole night around one warm layer, our after-dark layering playbook walks through it piece by piece.

Woman on a hazy festival field under bright triangle banners in the Alien Dimensions cotton pullover hoodie: big-eyed alien heads and white flower-of-life geometry in lavender and sky blue

The night layer. The Alien Dimensions cotton pullover hoodie ($100, XS–6XL) fills every inch with big-eyed alien heads in lavender, violet, sky blue and cream, threaded with white flower-of-life geometry, with a gold star glowing low on the back. It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m², dye-sublimated, with a kangaroo pocket and a drawstring hood. Expect 3–5% shrinkage at first, so wash cold and air dry. A desert crowd of visitors also stars in The Stranger at the Low-Water Crossing.

Can you bring a hoodie into Coachella for the night?

Yes. A folded hoodie slips easily into a bag up to 18 × 13 × 8.5 inches, the size Coachella's FAQ allows, and blankets or towels up to 50 × 70 inches are on its allowed list too. Prefer free hands? The festival's charging lockers are made for "jackets, bags and more," and the GA Locker tent welcomes outfit changes.

  • Tie it on. A cotton hoodie knotted at the waist rides along all afternoon and costs you no bag space.
  • Book lockers early. The FAQ says GA Lockers have sold out online for the past 10 years, so reserve one with your pass.
  • Collect before the finale. Lockers can't be opened once the grounds close each night, so grab your layer before the last set.

Camping on the polo fields

Coachella invites guests to "make the polo fields your home and camp on-site," and its passes page lists Car Camping, Ready-Set souvenir tents for two and La Campana's temperature-controlled tents with real beds. All camping areas sit beside the festival site, though the FAQ recommends comfortable shoes because the lots are "quite LARGE."

Camp nights are where the valley shows its cool side. With lows in the mid-50s°F at the Thermal station, a hoodie plus a blanket covers most nights, and a faux-fur-lined cloak from our men's or women's collections turns the walk to the showers into a cozy one. Each one has a faux-fur lining, a double front zipper and four pockets, unisex XS–5XL.

Ordering ahead for Coachella's April weekends

Wednesday, February 10, 2027 is the line we draw for Indio. Our production partners start your pieces at checkout and need 7–11 business days; the carrier needs 6–14 more. Let both run long, skip Presidents' Day, and that order still lands Thursday, March 18, three weeks ahead of the April 9 gates.

  • Shipping inside the US. Free on orders of $70 or more and $8 below that; rates abroad start at $10.
  • Room for a layer. For hoodies and cloaks worn over a day look, our FAQ suggests going up a size, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under."
  • Final sale, friendly help. All sales are final, so send your measurements to art@magusfawn.com first; we typically reply within 1–2 business days.
  • More California weekends. Plan the season with our guide to music festivals in California, then carry the desert wardrobe on to Lightning in a Bottle in May.

Frequently asked questions

When is Coachella 2027?

Two weekends again: April 9–11 and April 16–18, 2027, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, according to Coachella's official site. Its 2027 pass page already lists camping, a payment plan and waitlists for each weekend, since the advance-sale passes are gone. Hotel-and-pass bundles are listed alongside them, so lodging and entry can be booked together.

Is the Coachella lineup the same both weekends?

That's the plan, according to Coachella's official FAQ, with one exception: Quasar, the festival's newest stage. Set times arrive in the Coachella Mobile App a couple of days before each festival, and the lineup can change. Passes cover one weekend, and the FAQ notes there's no way to switch weekends after ordering.

How late does the music go at Coachella?

Coachella's FAQ puts the finish at around 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and midnight on Sunday, give or take a few minutes and subject to change. By then Indio has cooled well below its afternoon high, so keep your hoodie within reach for the final sets and the long walk out.

Do kids need a pass for Coachella?

Coachella is an all-ages festival, and its official FAQ says kids 5 and under get in free with General Admission. Camping has its own rules: every camper must hold a festival pass of their own, and guests under 18 camp only with a parent or legal guardian. Bring ear protection and sun hats for little ones.
