Bonnaroo Outfits: What to Wear on the Farm in Manchester, Tennessee (and the 2027 Rest Year)

|Magus Fawn

A giant numbered balloon bobs above the campground, and half of Outeroo steers home by it. Beneath it, shade canopies stand in rows across the grass, cloth tapestries hanging from their edges and lifting whenever a breeze crosses the field. Someone is pressing rhinestones along a friend's cheekbone. Someone else is pinning a cape for the afternoon parade.

What to wear to Bonnaroo follows the rhythm of The Farm: breathable prints for long June afternoons in Manchester, Tennessee, boots that welcome a puddle, and a hoodie for the cool hours when Centeroo plays on "until the sun comes up," as the help center puts it.

The Farm is resting for a season, though. Its official site announced that "Bonnaroo will be taking a much-needed year off in 2027," and return dates are TBA. Magus and Lylyth Fawn, the Los Angeles art-and-music duo behind Magus Fawn, packed this guide for the weekend the gates swing open again.

What do you wear to Bonnaroo?

Dress for a hot field by day and a cool farm by night. Our Bonnaroo plan pairs a breathable printed tee or swimsuit with shorts, a hat for shade and broken-in shoes, then adds a sheer kimono for the sun, mud boots and a poncho for storms, and a cotton hoodie for the hours before dawn.

On The Farm Conditions on the land Pull out
Campsite morning Shade canopies, plaza showers Swimsuit, kimono, sandals
Centeroo afternoon Mid-June highs near 83°F Velvet tee, cotton shorts, snapback
Parade or Roo Run Costumes welcome A lace-up dress, running shoes for the 5K
A storm rolls in Rain on about one June day in four Poncho, mud boots
Toward sunrise Lows near 60°F Cotton hoodie

Bonnaroo calls itself "a magical world of music, fun, & friendship held each June on our 700-acre farm," and a farm means grass, puddles and long walks, so build every outfit from the shoes up.

Back of the Temple of Sound crushed velvet tee on a man facing a festival main stage: black speaker stacks around a crowned figure in a gold halo, violet and silver

The tee. The Temple of Sound crushed velvet tee ($60, or $50 in poly jersey; XS–5XL) stacks black speaker cones up both sides of the back around a crowned figure in a radiant gold halo, with a smaller meditating figure and a pale flower-of-life lattice below, in violet, lavender, silver and cream. Pick 240 g/m² crushed velvet, 190 g/m² cotton or 180 g/m² jersey. Its story: Play for the Floor.

The shorts. The Cosmic Cross Silver cotton shorts ($65, S–5XL) wind silver, pewter and lavender filigree around a glowing white starburst on one leg. They're 100% cotton at 245 g/m², in a regular fit with an elastic drawstring waist.

Why is Bonnaroo taking 2027 off?

To let The Farm recover. In its letter to fans, the Bonnaroo team says the site, "particularly the main venue, needs a break to rest and recover" after back-to-back years of storms, including heavy rain on the Sunday of the 2026 festival. It follows upgrades: improved drainage, 4.5 miles of new roadways and 135 acres of new grass.

The team calls it a break that "will only make Bonnaroo better." No return date is announced yet, so the sign-up page is where to hear first, and this guide doubles as your packing list. For a June forest weekend meanwhile, our Electric Forest outfit ideas await, and for a Tennessee farm festival in fiction, read Seven Hands to Lot B.

How cool are Bonnaroo nights in June?

Pleasantly cool after hot days. NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals for the Manchester station put mid-June highs near 83°F and lows near 60°F. Sixty degrees feels brisk after a day of dancing in the sun, which is why the festival's packing list includes "Your favorite hoodie (yes, it CAN get cold in TN)."

The same normals count about five inches of June rain, so the hoodie waits in a dry bag at camp. Our nighttime warmth primer covers what to add when a Tennessee night runs cooler still.

Woman at a sunny festival in the Crystal Shroom Kingdom cotton pullover hoodie: violet mushroom caps and teal crystal spires in gold filigree on black, worn with black leggings

The night layer. The Crystal Shroom Kingdom cotton pullover hoodie ($100, XS–6XL) grows a kingdom on black cotton: violet mushroom caps, teal crystal spires and glowing orbs in gold filigree, with a luminous crystal at the heart of the front. It's 100% cotton at 310 g/m², with a kangaroo pocket and drawstring; wash cold and air dry, since it can shrink 3–5% at first. Its tale is Three Riddles Before Last Call.

Heat on The Farm: shade, The Fountain and a sheer layer

The festival's comfort tips say it plainly: "you will be in an open grassy field in Tennessee." The help center points fans to free, filtered water at Hydration Stations, and the Around the Farm page calls The Fountain in Centeroo "a beacon to those who need to cool off." Dress for airflow.

Woman walking a festival path in the Cyber Punk Mech chiffon kimono, belted over a navy swimsuit: ankle-length cobalt, violet and aqua panels with tall lace-up boots

The sun layer. The Cyber Punk Mech chiffon kimono ($75, S–5XL) falls to the ankle in angular panels of cobalt, violet and aqua traced with fine white linework, and in our photo it's belted with a matching sash. At 80 g/m², 100% poly chiffon, it shades bare shoulders and lets the breeze through.

Woman before a festival stage in the Metallic Blue Fractal one-piece swimsuit: cobalt and royal-blue feathery fractal ripples, a scoop neck, braids and mirrored sunglasses

Under it. The Metallic Blue Fractal one-piece swimsuit ($65; $68 in 2XL, $69 in 3XL; XS–3XL) ripples in cobalt and royal-blue fractal feathers, like light on deep water, with a scoop neck and a low open back. It's 75% recycled poly and 25% elastane at 225 g/m².

Storms are part of the June story. The packing list asks for "Mud boots (in case it rains)" and rain gear, while the safety page suggests checking the radar "so you can dress accordingly (rain boots, ponchos, etc.)." Chiffon, velvet and cotton are for dancing, so a poncho goes over them when clouds build. Our rainy-festival outfit guide covers fabrics and drying out.

What can you bring into Centeroo?

Centeroo runs on a clear-bag rule. Bonnaroo's bag policy wants anything bigger than 6" x 9" to be clear and under 12" x 6" x 12", exempts small one-pocket fanny packs and clutches, and takes hydration packs empty. Totems under 7 feet and 3.4-ounce non-aerosol sunscreen are fine; umbrellas, large chains and spiked jewelry stay at camp.

Those are the 2026 rules, marked subject to change, so check again before the next edition. Dress for them with pockets, a soft accessory stack and a brim instead of an umbrella.

The brim. The Ophanim Gray snapback ($40) spreads a glowing white winged form around a pale orb, set on a grey flower-of-life lattice sprinkled with tiny stars, over a dark brim etched with the same lattice: the packing list's "hat for shade," with wings. One size fits most, with an adjustable snapback closure.

Outeroo: plazas, parades and the Roo Run

Outeroo, the campgrounds, is "your home for the duration of your stay," and its plazas host "secret shows," art and late-night parties under those numbered balloons. The Around the Farm page invites everyone into the parades, "getting dressed up in something fancy" included, and encourages costumes at the Roo Run 5K, where athletic shoes are required. Yoga-Roo classes are free.

Back of the Mystical Egypt lace-up tube dress on a woman at a festival at golden hour: black crisscross lacing over a gold and violet Egyptian print, bright flags overhead

For the parade. The Mystical Egypt lace-up tube dress ($70, S–5XL) raises a column of rainbow chakra orbs up the front that tops out at a pharaoh's face, with a golden winged emblem along the neckline, hieroglyph-style figures at the sides and a pyramid at the hem, in gold and violet on black. The back laces in a black crisscross. It's strapless, 95/5 jersey at 180 g/m². Its own parade story is Seven Suns Before Sunset.

When The Farm returns: ordering ahead

When Bonnaroo posts its return dates, count back about five weeks. A Magus Fawn piece spends 7–11 business days in production and 6–14 in transit, up to 25 business days in all, so a mid-June weekend calls for ordering in the first days of May.

  • Shipping inside the US is free at $70 and up, and $8 below that.
  • Size for the tent-night stack. For hoodies and outerwear, the Magus Fawn FAQ suggests sizing up, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under."
  • Measure twice. All sales are final, so send measurements to art@magusfawn.com, where we typically reply within 1–2 business days.
  • More Southern camping. Our Wakaan guide takes bass into the Ozark Mountains.

Fill the tent bag: cotton hoodies · kimonos · women's swimwear · crushed velvet tees · men's shorts · dresses · snapback hats

The Farm is taking its rest. Hang the crystal kingdom by the door, and it will be ready when the balloons go back up.

Frequently asked questions

Can kids go to Bonnaroo for free?

Young ones can. Bonnaroo's age policy sets no minimum age, and a child who is 8 or under at festival time needs no ticket while with a ticket-holding adult, who may bring two at most. Platinum is the exception: kids aged 3 to 8 there need a Platinum Kids ticket and proof of age.

Do Bonnaroo wristbands allow re-entry?

For Centeroo, yes. The help center says you can go in and out of the main venue as often as you like, scanning your wristband each time. Driving out of the campgrounds and back in is allowed but discouraged: vehicles pay a $40 re-entry fee, which goes toward greening initiatives and carbon offsets on The Farm.

What is the Bonnaroovian Code?

It's the festival's community creed. The Bonnaroovian Code asks fans to Prepare Thyself, Play as a Team, Radiate Positivity, Respect the Farm and Stay True Roo, carrying the spirit home afterward, and to keep every good time kind to the neighbors. It's why so many campers share water, shade and directions with strangers.

Where do you shower at Bonnaroo?

At the plazas. Bonnaroo lists private shower stalls at almost every Outeroo plaza, $10 each, run by neighbors raising money for nonprofits such as Shower the People and the Tullahoma VFW. In 2026 they ran from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday through Sunday, so a sunrise rinse before the day outfit fits right in.
