The sun has already set behind the harbor cranes, and the air tastes of salt.
You're walking the waterfront toward the Queen Mary. Her three funnels glow against a sky going from tangerine to navy, and the old liner's hull throws gold light across the water. Somewhere past the gates a supersaw pad swells and holds, and the whole waterfront cheers the build before the drop has even happened. The crowd around you is pure trance: pastel fluffies, LED gloves blinking in sequence, a Dutch flag tied at someone's throat and rippling behind them like a superhero's cape. Your kandi stack is already beaded with harbor damp.
That damp is the whole secret of good Dreamstate outfits. Late-November nights on the Long Beach harbor sit around 50–55°F, and the marine air settles on skin, sequins and everything in between. The veterans dress for the shimmer and the salt at once.
We're Magus and Lylyth Fawn, visionary artists from Los Angeles, a short drive up the freeway. Magus produces Psy EDM (the Trancendance EP), so euphoric breakdowns are home turf. Here's how to dress for Dreamstate SoCal, from the first anthem to the walk back along the water.
What should you wear to Dreamstate?
Wear trance shimmer underneath and a warm, hooded layer on top. Magus Fawn's formula for Dreamstate SoCal is a light-catching base (crushed velvet, sequins or holographic fabric), leggings or fleece joggers, and a faux-fur-lined cloak you can zip shut on the waterfront and throw open when the floor heats up.
Dreamstate fills the Queen Mary waterfront in Long Beach each late November (2026 runs November 20–21, per Dreamstate's official site). It has called the harbor home since 2023, after years at the NOS Events Center, and the 2025 edition on November 21–22 marked its tenth year. Damp harbor air feels cooler than the number on your phone, so plan your layers around the water.
| Where you are | What the harbor feels like | What you want on |
|---|---|---|
| The waterfront walk in | Salt breeze, damp settling on everything | Every layer, hood up, cloak zipped |
| Deep in the crowd | Warm bodies, hands in the air | Shimmer base; cloak open or tied at the waist |
| Between sets by the water | A cool, misty pause | Cloak zipped, kandi pushed up the sleeve |
| The walk back after the closer | The dampest hour of the night | Everything on, zipped to the chin |
Trance festival outfits for the Dreamstate floor
Trance has the most joyful dress code in dance music, and it reads like a jewelry box: sequins, holographic and iridescent fabric, glitter and rhinestones, fur leg-warmers, platform shoes, kandi to the elbow, all in pastels and electric blue. Magus Fawn's take is celestial art that holds its own beside the sparkle and keeps you warm when the harbor exhales.
Every Magus Fawn festival cloak shares one build: a micro-mink outer, an ultra-soft fluffy microfiber fleece lining in black or white faux fur (listed fabric weight 200 g/m²), a double front zipper, heavy drawstrings and four pockets, two deep side pockets plus two interior stash pockets, one zippered. Unisex fit, XS–5XL. Kevin, reviewing our Lunar Eclipse cloak in March 2025, summed up the build: "Super soft and warm."

The electric-blue dreamer. Electric blue is trance's signature color, and the Dream Weaver Blue women's festival cloak ($250) wears it head to hem: blue, violet and teal visionary symmetry with a calm wolf face at its heart, crystal spires rising behind it and coiling dragon-like forms across the shoulders. It reads like the inside of a dream you're happy to stay in (read the beach-trance story behind the design: The Sand Loom).
Underneath, the Cosmic Cross Silver crushed velvet t-shirt ($60) is all silver, grey and lavender filigree, symmetrical as frost on a cathedral window. Knot it at the waist or wear it over a sequin bodysuit, and crushed velvet breaks every laser into glitter. It's 240 g/m² crushed velvet, unisex, in XS–5XL.
Finish the legs with the Liquified Abyss women's yoga leggings ($70), liquid swirls of magenta, orange, teal and violet that move like oil on water under the stage lights. Four-way-stretch microfiber at 225 g/m² with a raised waistband, in XS–XL.

The lavender trance kid. For guys, pastel is the power move at a trance festival, right beside the iridescent pieces and LED gloves. The Angel Catcher Light Purple cotton t-shirt ($60) glows violet and lavender around a hexagonal flower-of-life medallion, with mandala rosettes and white starbursts flaring out like a breakdown hitting its peak. It's 100% cotton at 190 g/m², dye-sublimated so the colors won't fade and the image won't crack, in XS–5XL. Pair it with dark brushed-fleece joggers and sneakers you can dance in until the closer.
Top it with the Ophanim snapback ($40), a violet crown with a glowing lavender winged figure. The Ophanim are the wheel-angels of old Hebrew angelology, all eyes and light, and perfect company for an uplifting breakdown.

The angelic-language mystic. Trance loves the angelic, and Enochian goes deepest. The Enochian Vision Blue men's festival cloak ($250) covers deep navy-black with columns of gold and blue Enochian-style script, crowned by a pentagram seal over an open book, a sword and a chalice. Enochian is the "angelic language" recorded in John Dee's sixteenth-century journals, worn here like a scroll unrolled down your back (read the story behind the design: Write One True Thing). Unity, who gave our Enochian Vision crushed velvet tee to a partner who DJs festivals, wrote in March 2025: "The quality is exceptional and the unique design is purely divine."

How do you wear a flag cape at a trance festival?
Tie the top two corners loosely at your collarbone so the flag drapes down your back, and wear it over a hood or a zipped layer. Magus Fawn's tip for a damp Dreamstate night: the flag cape goes on top of your cloak or hoodie, so the colors fly and the warmth stays underneath.
Flags are the heartbeat of a trance crowd: country flags, fan-group flags and hand-painted bedsheets, all waving so your people can find you.
- The knot: a loose square knot at the front, never tight at the throat, so it slips off in a second when you dance.
- The layer order: shimmer base, warm layer, flag on top. A cloak hood underneath keeps the salt air off your neck.
- The kandi pairing: stack a few spare bracelets on the same arm. Trading kandi with the PLUR handshake turns strangers under one flag into friends by the next breakdown.
How do you dress for Dreamstate 2026 with what you already own?
Start with the warmest hooded layer in your closet, then build the trance shimmer underneath. Magus Fawn's closet plan for Dreamstate 2026 is any hoodie or long coat, a sparkly top, leggings or joggers, broken-in shoes, a flag for a cape and a stack of kandi made in the week before.
Every Magus Fawn piece is made to order, with 7–11 business days of production and then 6–14 business days of delivery. This year's late-November edition arrives sooner than that window allows, so 2026 is a closet year, and a joyful one:
- The shimmer: a sequin top, a metallic bodysuit or holographic shorts over warm tights.
- The warmth: your coziest hoodie or a long coat. Wear it open on the floor and zipped for the waterfront.
- The heart: kandi. A night of stringing pony beads with your crew is the best pre-party in the scene.
Cold nights keep going long after Dreamstate, and pieces ordered this fall carry you through the rest of winter; our guide to what to wear to a winter rave maps the whole season.
When should you order Dreamstate outfits for 2027?
Order by mid-October 2027. Magus Fawn makes every piece to order: 7–11 business days of production, then 6–14 business days of delivery, or 25 business days at the slow end. That's about five weeks, so for a late-November Dreamstate weekend (dates TBA), a mid-October order arrives with room to spare.
Size outerwear for the layers underneath. Our FAQ suggests sizing up on cloaks and hoodies, "sometimes even 2 sizes up to fit extra layers under." All sales are final, so if you're between sizes, email your measurements to art@magusfawn.com; we typically reply within 1–2 business days. US shipping is free on orders of $70 or more, and every piece is 100% vegan friendly.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Dreamstate SoCal held?
Dreamstate SoCal is held on the Queen Mary waterfront in Long Beach, California, its home since 2023 after earlier years at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino. It runs each late November, with the harbor right beside the dance floor, so expect damp marine air and nights of around 50–55°F. The 2026 edition runs November 20–21.
What is Dreamstate known for?
Dreamstate is known as a pure trance festival: soaring anthems, hands-in-the-air breakdowns, fan flags waving over the crowd, and kandi traded with the PLUR handshake. The 2025 edition marked its tenth year, and Tiësto played a trance set there. Fans call the community their trance family, and the outfits sparkle to match.
What are good trance festival outfits for guys?
Pick one light-catching piece, such as a crushed velvet or iridescent tee, and pair it with comfortable joggers and sneakers built for hours of dancing. Add LED gloves or a snapback, tie a flag on as a cape, and stack kandi on both wrists. For harbor nights, finish with a hooded festival cloak or a warm hoodie.
What do girls wear to trance festivals?
Trance outfits for women lean sparkly and soft: sequin or holographic tops, crushed velvet crop hoodies, printed leggings, fur leg-warmers and platform shoes, in pastels and electric blue. Kandi stacks and LED gloves add the glow. On cool nights, plenty of ravers zip a faux-fur-lined cloak over the whole look and wear a flag on top.
